Also treated the Focus to new wipers. I was going to go £7.50 eBay no named special but decided I'll hate that decision when it rains next. So went with Bosch. Except I got them a bit cheaper as they were already opened.

Passenger side wiper blade is a bit low and catching the trim.

Anyone got experience of air con vacuum pumps? Tempted to get one so I can DIY fix air conditioning systems by evacuating them and seeing if it holds a pressure.
No doubt I'll be fixing many systems over my automotive fiddling DIY career.

Isn't Talbot the aircon go to man around here?

In more great news, I've looked under mine, now that I'm.back from work.

The CRV's have a protective cage around the CAT, in case you do some hard-core offroading.

Mine is now missing. Its been cut off. See those holes? Thats where the cage was bolted in.

So they must have been disturbed.

Mrs is leaning towards claiming off the insurance for hers and doing a PCP on a Duster.

I would heavily recommend avoiding even enquiring, you’ll have a pending claim on which will mess you up for 6 months even if you don’t claim.

Think about your excess, plus the added cost a fault claim on your insurance will add for the next 5 renewals. You’ll also be seen as a bad risk for the next 5 years as whenever you declare the claim, you’ll be asked what happened and where it took place - any future insurer who knows you’ve had a theft from outside the address you’re insuring at will see it as a high risk for obvious reasons

Only saying it because I deal with this daily through my job, it’s really not worth doing.

I too was worried.

Just did two quotes. One with claim, one without.

Makes 2 quid a month difference.

She has 9 yrs protected ncd and we live in the sticks.

I accept it might be a slightly bigger difference once we try to get an actual new policy, but think she will claim.

Cunts. Shame trolley jacks don't fail more often.

What's it like where the cars are parked? Must have made a fair noise.

Quietish side street at night.

No jack required. CRV's are high enough to get under without a jack.

Now going to buy the Mrs something that's slammed :)

some not very helpful suggestions :

get a paint pen and write “empty” on the cat ?

wrap a load of barbed wire around it ?

smear it in dogshit ? (although that might be a bit whiffy when you go for a drive and it heats up)

i suppose you could remove it yourself and lock it away safe, fit a cheap de cat and swap it in for the mot ?

pain in the arse though, i simply gave up and sold the car :(

Hold the fricking front page.

Mrs CSW has started the claim procedure. No value quoted to her yet, but she has been told its a write off.

I have to take pictures and send them in, so they can determine their offer.

Tomorrow I will be driving around until I find a mint condition black mk2 to take pictures of :)

Mrs CSW started checking out ebay.

She said she quite likes these

My love of chod is rubbing off :)

Also taking her to Dacia in Trowbridge tomorrow, just to sit in a Sandero Stepway and a Duster. Just in case she goes down the modern route. Not that I can afford new Dacias or even slightly old Dacias lol

Miss Masters is nearly seventeen, so obviously potential cars have been discussed. She told me she'd seen a lot of Nissan Micras around, I wasn't sure which on she meant so looked up their history-she had been taking about K12s, but when she saw a K10 said that's what she really wants. My work here as a parent is done.

Very interested to see comments on the AC pump as well. May be worth asking the same question in the Ask a Shiter section.?

At 3am, a car alarm started to go off.

I was asleep. Snoring soundly. My wife was not.

Being 1) Scottish from the clan Ferguson  2) Ex Copper  3) Taekwondo Black Belt

She headed out into the night, armed only with the metal poker from the log burner and a determination to gut a cat thief like a fish. A blunt ended poker may not have been the best choice for this.

Anyway. The neighbour who had managed to set off the alarm on their own car, after returning from a long shift, got the shock of their life and the CRV Cat was still in place.

I have just checked and at 8am its still there :)

I was watching these too videos on it. Doesn't look to bad. Even just to suck a vacuum and see if it holds. Then sending it to a garage for the gas to be put into it.

I don’t keep my bad decisions restricted to land based transport.

Me and a mate have been sharing this for about 3 years or so. Last year it got completely ignored, so this year we are trying to undo the neglect.

When I got it, my partner didn’t want to go out in it and that was part of the reason I lost interest last year. This year, she’s asking if she can go out on the boat with me as the weather is nice 😅

That looks nice.  I don't know if you were aware of this though, but those things normally drive on water.  If you want to drive on mud a Land Rover might be more suitable.

Figured out my starting wows in the Toledo. I'm still only getting 10v on the ignition feed. I took the lower dash apart and it's a veritable hotchpotch of spliced wiring.

PXL_20220809_182811866.thumb.jpg.7718a219e4006a593a597532effc448f.jpg

I don't think it is using a ballast as it has electronic ignition. Now I could rip the wiring loom /ignition switch apart to find out what's going on ....but I won't.

I  took the starter switched ignition feed and routed it to a new relay to let it do the hardwork, figuring even 10v would be enough for the relay to switch:

We got the boat running, the tide came in up to my mate’s van, and so we did some sea* trials up and down the river.

We couldn’t make it out to actual sea, as the tide was so high that we couldn’t go under the bridge - if you want it opened you have to book 2 hours in advance.

Successful day though, good to see the boat running again.

One of the things that we had to fix was the impeller setup that feeds sea water through as coolant… the mooring is tidal and I got in late one day, and trying to send it through the mud didn’t do the gearing inside any favours 😅 11/10 should have used a Land Rover

Warm isn't it? I'd left a box of parts and some dash cleaner on the front seat of the BX. The box is scorched and the plastic bottle has melted - guess I'm lucky it didn't catch fire.IMG_20220813_170114.thumb.jpg.4a8caa0cfca238701532794ed4affed0.jpg

Home improvement top tip: make a small house seem much larger by painting the outside in 30 degree heat!IMG_20220813_164432.thumb.jpg.702784434efe7ea5b098ea6956e0eaee.jpg

I happened to see the Bridgewater Car and Steam Show on FB when a notification popped up yesterday for today. Mrs SiC parents and brother+wife are down this weekend. My Father-in-law was supposed to be going on some Hawk thing at the local Hawk Conservancy today but was cancelled as it was too hot for the birds. So instead I suggested him and I go down to the show.

I wasn't expecting much but I was happily surprised with the amount there. Good varied selection without too much repetition. Quite small but large enough in this weather that 2hrs was sufficient.

PA guy was talking a right load of guff. I should have recorded the conversation he was having with one of the owners of a hydrolastic car. So bad you couldn't make it up.

I thought I got everything but the heat was stopping my neurons from firing properly and I think I missed a bunch of stuff. Like for example the front of the Frogeye - but that was probably from me being intoxicated from viewing it. One of the few cars that really excite me about the thought of buying.

There was also the usual bunch of stationary engines. I'll upload a video of them separately as they're more interesting when operating. Something hypnotic watching one chug away. Plus bonus Battle of Britain Hawker Hurricane flypast footage at the end.

Open again tomorrow. Fiver each entry wasn't too ridiculous nowadays.
