DodgyBastard
This one isn't a scrapyard but has various vehicles rotting away, it's spread over three different locations on the banks of a Perthshire loch. Jerzy Woking
I absolutely love the old car scrapyards, and have been facinated by them since I was 10 years old. Used to love going around Arthur Clarke's in Felsted and Blackwell's in Halstead, both no longer breakers. Luckily Kelvedon Auto Spares are still a "proper" scrapped. I have seen quite a few here in Spain, but everything seems to be racked. I'll try and get some photos soon, although most cars I can see in them are French and not that old. Datsuncog
While returning from the Mallusk MOT testing centre last night in MrsDC's Yaris (retested ok, now the brakes have been rebuilt), I stopped at the mouth of the T-Met recycling yard as something had caught my eye... Two baby Fiats waiting to meet their maker - the 126 was a particular shock, not least because the bodywork really doesn't look too bad under all the grot. Hey, it's got clearly defined edges to the valances and wheelarches, which is more than many had after a few years... Nothing showing on DVA tax checker to show when it was last on the road, so it seems poor little XDZ2962 has been COD'd. Lowly spec'd Seicento, BNZ8602, also looks pretty good in terms of bodywork, but is now beyond earthly assistance. A sad sight to behold. And also visible... Aside from the usual clapped-out Transits, scabacious Mercs and malfunctioning Poxhalls, a Chrysler Grand Voyager, an MG ZS and an LDV hi-top minibus... oof. Trophy Blue, with the more restrained of the rear spoiler options. You'd think it'd have been worth someone's while to pull those alloys off it, but apparently not... ETCHY
Old scrapyards were fantastic, I lived near one as a kid & we were forever getting chucked out for sitting in the old cars (Escorts, Heralds, Minors, BMC1300's & P6 Rovers were pretty common I seem to recall). Best yard I ever went to was Statham Enterprises at Lymm in Cheshire, that was full of old motors & had been there since just after the war. We used to go there in the early '90's looking for bits for my Anglia. Datsuncog
