Kumho PS71 tyres improve the ride and handling rather a lot over the run flats they're blighted with from the factory. 

Kumho PS71 are a decent tyre at a more sensible price. They're not run flats...

Why do even simple jobs not go well… 

To investigate which part of the ignition was fucked on the 2CV I cracked out the multimeter and set to checking the coil using a guide on Harley Davidson Coils online as that’s what’s been fitted as an upgrade. All fine there according to the figures on the guide. So I decided to pull the leads and get the plugs out. But one lead pulled the metal end out of its rubber sleeve and left the rubber end stuck in the hole, stuck solid. No amount of tugging and implements have freed it. So going to have to remove the wing to get a better angle.

Fucksake.

I feel your pain - this happened when I tried to sort out a misfire on daughter number ones Beetle.

Which resulted in having to remove the inlet manifold to change the leads. No five minute job goes unpunished.

Very easily done. Almost as easily as making the most perfect flares you've ever seen on both ends while the unions are still chilling on your work bench 🙄😂

That is not a happy C6. 

Where someone's bodged that pipe previously, it cracked. The crack has completely split. And... you can see the result. 

It made it to Durham and back today with a *lot* of water being tipped into it, but the pipe finally gave up the ghost on the way back home. 

Straight into a garage next week to get it fixed properly, which someone didn't bother to do last time it went. Known failure point on these so a new one will at least mean peace of mind for me. For a while.

Not only had the flares not been made as a double flares, and hence the tube had split, but the pipe from the 4-way to the NSF had been in contact with a steel oil pipe on the engine and had worn all the way through.  Also the bends had all been hand-bent, so one of the tight ones into the union was folded almost flat.

Pretty crap install really.  Replacement pipe has double flares both ends, bends formed with a tube bender, and most importantly isn't rubbing!

Service time this afternoon for the couriering Caddy, nothing strenuous just an oil and filter change. Updated my sadgit spreadsheat and noticed it was the 20th service I'd done on the old girl, acquired at 125k now on 338k, so I treated it and wiped all the crap and dirt off the back lights and number plate.

This is my issue with my 525i. It's definitely the lockup. But can't tell if it's a solenoid or actual clutch problem. The clutch is hidden in the torque converter. 

I've got a 2nd hand box and TC to fit which is next weekends' job, fortunately in an indoor setting with lift.

It's gradually improving on mine, and it's something that seems to be less evident once it's really, properly warmed-up.

Had a silly bollocks moment and decided to sell my trusty old diesel Skoda Fabia that I've had for 5 painless years due to boredom and bought a newer Ford Focus from a garage

Nice car, well equipped, ticks all the boxes for a cheap to run work hack etc

I went to collect it yesterday from just over a hour away, firstly it wasn't very clean which the garage apologised for and then it had 30 miles of fuel left which again they apologised about but I made it clear I wasn't happy, especially as the nearest petrol station was a good 20 mins away, Thankfully I managed to full up ok only for it to go into limp mode as soon as I hit the A120 🙄

It did this 3 times after shutting it down and restarting it with a rough idle and smoke, FFS.

Garage said to bring it back and they'll fix it for me and will clean it properly now too and given me this Ssangyong Komodo thing to use until it's fixed

I shouldn't complain as it could have been worse but what a shit car, bonnet shakes at 70mph, it's far too big and bloated for a 5 seater SUV and it keeps bing bonging all the time.

Replaced a front wheel bearing on the Trafic. One of those hub off and press jobs.

Now have an abs fault. Rather grumpy about this as the abs ring is part of the bearing and I spent extra to get a branded FAG bearing.

Live data looks like this.

As it's not a regular dropout I'm thinking / hoping it's not the bearing.

Installation damage to the bearing I would say unfortunately. It happens.

Wouldn't that manifest as a regular dropout if the magnetic ring was damaged? I didn't have any problems pressing it in, it went in like butter.

I'm thinking more that the abs sensor clip that came with it is absolutely shocking causing the sensor to wobble. I should have put the old one back in!
