I sold a 2 door one for £50 once. There wasn't even much wrong with it, just needed a tiny bit of welding for the MOT but with what they were worth it just wasn't worth the bother.

I love to see one on the road now but back then I thought they were an old fellas motor. 😄

That's not as true as it used to be the price has shot up quite considerably nowaday as well as the poor exchange rate,   Think some countries have realised the cost of classics elsewhere and are rising accordingly. 

The Croatian dood that sold the galant said he's upping his prices accordingly as plenty traders are fishing in his waters.

This used to be true, but traders have also noticed the higher value of old Fords in the UK though, which has affected the market.

It's a very strange phenomenon.

A mate had one - a 1.1 Pop Plus. It was really shit, apart for the ability to tail slide at will on its rubbish old cart spring rear end.

1.3 GL is a nice spec - a mate had one about 20 years ago, in navy blue with a red interior.  

My last Mk2 was a red R-reg 1.6 Ghia - lovely car until I melted a piston cruising at 100mph on a private section of the A47.  I swapped it for a Vanden Plas Allegro - with hindsight not one of my smartest financial moves.

Nice looking Escort there. I really like the wheels and spoiler personally, as it reminds me of how I use to see them as a kid back in the early 90's.

A friend of mine restored a original UK 1978 MK2 Escort 2dr 1.1 about 15+ years ago.

He brought it from another friend of ours for just £150, it was full of the usual glass fibre and paper mache repairs. The only two panel that weren't rotten, was the roof and boot lid! The bulkhead was the worst panel on it, as the dash and heater box  just came off without any fixings being removed.

It really depends on the car I think. I don't think anyone really cares about Opel Vectra As/Cavaliers outside of the UK so values are appropriately low. Same with Fiat Barchettas which were borderline worthless everywhere while they somehow held their value fairly well in the UK. As usual, supply and demand. I haven't looked up prices for either in a while though.

Another great purchase. Only on Autoshite you will find someone go from a Rolls Royce to an Escort in a matter of weeks.

Love it.

An old school friend had an immaculate blue one - his dad worked at a ford dealer - it was chopped in by an old couple in 1989. At 13 years old it was MINT and low mileage but back then they were worthless. I don't think NNC 161P survived long after he swapped  it for a nissan cherry.

Back then you paid £300 for one. If you stuffed it you bought another.

As for prices I paid £300 in 1991 for a rotten mk1 1300e. I was done up somewhat.

When my Cortina chucked it in 1997 I was offered a 32 door mk2 gold escort with hounds tooth interior for £350. It was tidy as well but an automatic so absolutely awful to drive so I bought a Volvo 360 for £100 instead.

The Escort would have been a late 70’s one, the Riva for which he still has the foot pump for was a H plater so at the time maybe 6 years old. I don’t know the complexities of the deal but it had a paint finish on the boot like the singing detectives back, the radio fell out of the dash. I remember him taking me and my mum to the shops in it and the overwhelming smell of hot melting Russian plastic/rubber and us cowering in the back in case anyone saw us in it. We still laugh about it now actually. 😂
