Ex De Gaulle era government car.

Quote

registered on October 2, 1965 in the name of the “Presidency of the Republic”, 55, rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, in Paris. It is equipped with some specific features exclusive to General de Gaulle's cars: side sun visors for the rear seats, front flag holders hidden in the bumper, ribbon holder on the dashboard, and document holder.

Slightly underwhelming 'special features', lol.

Or how about his wife's GS!

When General de Gaulle died in November 1970, Yvonne de Gaulle and her driver decided to discreetly sell the General's DS 21, too large and expensive to use, to buy a more reasonable car

Nice find. This looks like late registration madness to me. When did they officially stop making those?

They got caught up in the crossfire between Nissan UK and Nissan Motor GB. For whatever reason NMGB didn't continue selling them, so they had an unusually short official life here - maybe a couple of years?

Brotherwood continued to offer disabled conversions on them, I think they used imports from somewhere like Cyprus. I've seen a couple of other Prairies in the same L...NYD batch of registrations, all with the drop-down floor, cut-out in the rear bumper etc.

Those Tipo Saloons were an official Fiat offering and not just Arnie Shark, they only came in low spec 1.4 form (I like a saloon so could have been interested, but for that). They seemed to be getting knocked out for £9,995 pre-reg right from the off. So whilst they were available across the dealership network, I would not be shocked if they were unsold cars from Ireland or Cyprus or wherever.

So Mme de Gaulle decided in 1970 to replace the DS with a 1974 GS.  Hmmm...

yeah, the stories around both cars seem a little suspect, I'd like to see the paper trail.........!

You'll cause a local fuel shortage:

The engine is the factory Ford 460CI Big block stroked to 503CI (8.3L) which has been completely built and upgraded for daily driving and drag racing and is making around 700 HP 675IB

I'd consider something like that at £3k. Sure, it looks horrible, but should have a fair bit of life in it for my day-to-day use. And that is VERY cheap for a 69 plate car
