Yep, around that time there was a bit of a trend towards such turbo petrols for that reason, as well as the 75/ZT can remember them coming up with 2.0 turbo versions of the Vectra and Laguna. And then the company car market moved to diesels and they disappeared almost as quickly as they appeared.

You may jest, but a mate of mine was once absolutely baffled, as he was overtaken by a giant Creme Egg on the dual carriageway. This festered in his mind for 20 years, maybe the whole thing was a hallucination before he asked me about it. "Jim, you know about cars and chocolate... Is there such a thing as a giant motorised Creme Egg?" "Why yes, it was a Bedford Rascal underneath" He was in a lorry, so we can surmise that the top speed of a motorised Creme Egg is greater than 60mph. Despite terrible aerodynamics.

Lot of newer cars have aerodynamic tricks, things like those vents at the front of the car directing air under the wheel arches. Basically the culmination of decades of learning from where we were with the Calibra where the only idea was to have a slippery shape which means that housebrick shaped ID4s are not far off that.

Just read through this, a few crackers I remember from the time and good to see what you've had since when I dropped off here. I actually like those alloys, they're very off the time. It screams 1989.

Now: Either a Skoda Octavia VRS or the best Dacia Duster money could buy. In 1995 the biggest difficulty would be being spoiled for choice. Like others, if I was focused on longevity I would be after a Volvo, either an 850 or a 960.

There's a garage near me that does the LPG TX4s. Somehow they even manage to sound a bit like the old diesel knackers. This garage also does conversions on used cabs. Quite a few on the ranks locally with tell tale second fuel fillers and LPG badges on the back. -
From a bit of Googling that seems to have been the original demo one, so wonder of they ever plated it and they might have just stuck that in when it went on the road in 93/94. I have a vague recollection about reading about those Asquith cabs. They met the requirements to run in London at the time. Cost the company a fortune to develop and was ultimately a factor in them folding.

I adore the Solo, and I don't think that's anything to be ashamed of. I also like the Kallista... Which is probably something to be ashamed of.
