High Jetter
IIRC Commer were pretty tartish, would do whatever was asked of them with body variants. Bit like LR, back in the day. Remember the TV licence vans and other oddities? Not sure what hinged doors on a pick-up were for, maybe plant movement?

Brodders
Traffic issues aside, it was a pretty good show. Lots of good cars and it was great to catch up with a lot of people there. The day started with myself and £95 Peugeot meeting with quite a few others off here and convoying from the truck stop down to the Castle. I was behind Kiltox's Eco Astra for a while in the traffic, until we got to the main driveway leading up to the Castle. I switched the engine off and I managed to drain the battery of the Orion by listening to the radio when we were stuck for another 20 minutes. After getting it pushed out of the way, the chap who had the Mondeo V6 in the concourse gave me a jump start and I managed to get to the parking area without anymore issues. There were simply too many good cars to photograph there, but there are a number of highlights for me. First one was this Fiat Argenta which was parked directly behind me With a Montego and Renault 9 parked on either side of the same row Further down the field, an Avenger, Solara, early Mondeo, Proton and Mk2 Escort were all parked next to each other With a base spec, Astra steering-wheeled, Mk3 Cavalier a few cars away, strangely with a 1.6 engine and auto gearbox With an equally appearing Mk2 Cavalier further down Along with some interesting far eastern offerings from the 90s A 212k 127 Late Maestro van Pair of lovely Renaults and a 504 104 that I followed back towards the A1 The Sapporo left fairly early but was very nice to see Alfasud E34 525iX estate 320's extremely grim, but also strangely appealing, Toledo Wartburg police car Trio of early Espaces RayMK, 320touring, RobT and 19 others
Tommyboy12
Well I got a nice drive-by show and thank you to all that stopped. There was a guy in an MG Magnette who even offered to drive me to buy parts. Only took 7.5 hours for a truck to turn up... The RAC are not in my good books now. I should have dragged the Montego instead! 😂 uk_senator, Asimo, Kiltox and 3 others
dollywobbler
RAC seem to be getting worse, from an already awful position! Sorry you only got a mobile show. We did hear an odd noise as you drove past the truck stop. I guess that was it...
catsinthewelder
I used to rate the RAC as far better than the AA but that shows it was a good idea to swap our work fleet over last week. Presumably the long wait wouldn't have been as bad if they could have just been honest because one of us could have popped out and got you ( or you could have walked the 5 miles in and got into the show faster than most of us). I managed to do a head gasket change in one of the M6 service stations last year before they arrived. Took me two hours to do it and they still hadn't given an ETA in that time. Unfortunately I didn't hear any noise as I made the mistake of wearing headphones to listen to music! 5 minutes ago, catsinthewelder said: I used to rate the RAC as far better than the AA but that shows it was a good idea to swap our work fleet over last week. Yeah if they had have been more honest it would have been better. I'd have walked the 5 miles happily but I never got an honest answer the 4-5 times I rang. BorniteIdentity
Disappointed not to have made it along. I ended up playing cricket instead with two of my sons, the younger was an emergency player and I ended up being an emergency emergency player. We only had 10, spent the afternoon chasing leather and then somecunt bounced one into my ribs which was enjoyable*. I guess that's what you get for trying to do the right thing. Silly old fool that I am. Looks like a great selection of cars too, although it feels like the event has now outgrown the capabilities of an "inhouse" affair and needs to be managed by an event team. And, as lovely as these venues are, if there's not easy - free flowing access - they should be scratched off the list immediately. Stow House was an absolute doddle, so I struggle to see (from afar) how they made it so difficult for themselves. Really good show with great people and cars there, just a shame about the queue. It wasn't really a suprise that 2000 people all turning up on a single track lane at 10am would cause a problem. I bet the locals loved you lot... especially as that route leads to the A1 for many.
HMC
Great to read this thread and remind myself that it’s something ive wanted to go to for a good few years. I suspect next year I may have a better selection of vehicles to take. So given it’s a celebration of the “unexceptional” how far is that taken? (even an “unexceptional” car can become so if it’s concourse. ) I’d like the judges to find appeal in life and patina as well as a nice 2 pack windows out respray, because that would be exceptional in anyone’s book. alf892, RoadworkUK, aldo135 and 2 others 4

My recent dealings with the RAC were interesting, to say the least - but at least they got me back home over a distance of 185 miles in a taxi last week and brought my car back the next day (due to the flatbed driver being almost up to hours). Apart from one stroppy individual I got on the 'phone (but there's always one), everyone else I dealt with on the 'phone was very polite and helpful, and the interchange between flatbeds and taxi at Chester was almost choreographed in its timing. The patrol arrived within two hours on a hot day on the Welsh coast for the initial diagnosis of the car's overheating but couldn't repair it. The previous occasion was probably three years ago now (in Borehamwood) and they were there in thirty minutes. Nope - can't agree with you. meggersdog
Danny Hopkins suggested we go together , me in the mighty Nissan and Danny in the Xedos 6 . My work colleague hadn't turned up when Danny and Nutmeg (the dog) left.Had to be early as he was judging. We got there around 9.45 and came through Edenham so the queue on the raod wasn't bad. Think we were longer in the queue in the grounds than the road. Sam was judging too and rocked up in his Cx while we were having a mooch around. So much for him getting there early. Don't know if I spoke to anyone here as although I spotted a few cars from these pages nobody seemed to be with them. The only one was the Dacia owner but he was in deep conversation with a couple so didn't want to butt in. Said hello to the lovely Sarah Crabtree. She seemed very nice but the guys I was with hadn't a clue who she was. Made my day though. Thinking ahead I made ham and cheese rolls and filled a flask for our refreshments. Left the windows down and one section of the roof was put in the boot. Did notice one or two WTF is that moments then a walk round the back "oh, it's a 100NX never seen one of them before" .The rolls and flask were in a carrier bag on the back seat and to my horror when I got home realised my wallet was in that bag too. All in all a great day out and a lovely drive home with the roof off through some quaint little villages. RoadworkUK and BorniteIdentity

Spurious
Whilst I agree with the Bentleys, Jensons and Porsches, someone was clearly very upset that I'd brought my 100 Avant with 14inch steel wheels and velour seats. It wasn't unexceptional enough. Get in the sea. Kiltox, aldo135, brownnova and 1 other 3
