Last night was in front of the multi-fuel stove reading by candlelight. Today was spent getting a generator I was given 15 years ago working. As I am posting this, obviously I was successful :-)

People winging on the Jeep Cherokee forum, when they are daily driving a 20 odd year old 4x4 with zero maintenance and the original water pump fails so they put a picture up of a rusty water covered engine bay asking “is this normal?” and “why is this happening “ and “I thought these cars were supposed to be reliable” .

There seems to be a new breed of older/classic car owner that has absolutely no clue of how to look after/maintain a vehicle. They just seem to be able to wash it and put pics on Facebook

We're meant to be washing them and taking pictures now? Fucking hell, this classic car lark is getting far too involved for me!

maintain

Can you quickly explain this? Not heard that word before.

I'm very hopeful that actually this will become more widespread - loads of demand for classics has driven the prices out of my reach, however I had my suspicions that a lot of the people buying them bought the cars for the image and not because they enjoyed maintaining/restoring an older car.

The more that reality bites, the less attractive these cars will be and hopefully prices will drop as the novelty of either paying a specialist £100/hr to fix your 'cool old car' for the 11th time this month, or rolling around in the road outside your flat with your 'cool old car' on bricks then dropping the starter motor on your face, knocking out half of your freshly cosmetically whitened teeth because you couldn't hold the starter and watch the youtube tutorial on your phone at the same time will put people off.

Or maybe I'm wrong, again.

I'll just stick to West Sound. Even if it has become yet another faceless Bauer-dependent station. Tunes are good. Otherwise it's BBC R2 on a Saturday for the pick of the pops with that Canadian fucker that took ower fae Tony Blackburn.

I only listen to Classic FM and that can be tiresome, adverts, news etc. Anything talky.

Half an hour ago while reinstalling Linux and repairing one of the kitchen chairs (multitasking see!) there was a competition to win a couple of days a Kew Gardens, the Eden Project or Harry Potter World, posh nosh and folding in yer pocket.

The answer was pretty simple, Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight Of The Bumble Bee" with two vaguely similar answers.

And bugger me if they didn't play "Flight Of The Bumble Bee" five minutes ago.

I'm finding Classic FM is playing the same music playlist on repeat quite regularly now. Like, there's so much classical music around from so many eras but they choose to only focus on a very narrow band of 'popular' music and play the same record over and over again as if there's nothing else to play.

^ I agree but only have it on when pottering around in the dining room/kitchen.  Sometimes it gets left on, it has been on for a couple of weeks recently but usually gets turned off when the news/adverts/waffle starts.

I have found some decent stuff on there that I have bought CDs of.

Otherwise I connect the laptop that is in the room and play ripped CDs.

The worst thing about radio is the presenters.

I researched the blue Khamsin above. It used to belong to the Royal Family of Brunei, so that explains it.

This is the Sultan's Rolls-Royce:-50058.jpg.ea68ad01f576f208599bb93398058df9.jpg

The Khamsin is for sale for £80k, which is not far off the price of a good one. And it has a Holden V8 fitted. 😥

But that's pretty much true of all commercial stations whatever their genre. Only 6 Music is truly varied, though of course that's not always a good thing. As somebody further up said Mary Ann Hobbs is not really a daytime DJ. All the presenters seem to have a lot of freedom to play what they want and Mary Ann should be on at night with all her dancey stuff. With Steve Lamaq it's endless britpop and he plays Elastica every other day (conflict of interest as they started on a label he owned, or co owned).

It was definitely better when Shaun Keavney and Radcliffe and Maconie were both on weekdays but it was RadMacs own choice to go to weekends (why work five days if you can only work two, can't blame them).

But Iggy Pop is brilliant, now on Sunday afternoon (after Guy Garvey who is also very good). I could just listen to him talk all day. That is someone who really shouldn't still be alive, like Keith Richards.

But most 6 Music presenters are from the music industry, either pop stars or ex NME journalists which is what makes it so varied. And even if you don't like what they play it'll be something you've never heard before.

Seen three cars today with what appears to be the latest variant on the rampant theme of obscured to the point of being totally unintelligible number plates around here.

Not content with having greyed the plate out, we now have cars going round with raised black text on a black background plates.

No surprise that the cars were two Audis and a BMW 1-series all lowered to several inches below ground level with blacked out windows.

I've heard RR aren't too happy about it but seeing as he owns 500 RR's I suspect that they turn a blind eye to it 🤢

I had a Cherokee new in 2000. It was falling apart when I go rid in 2004, with just 25000 miles and no off roading . ( only car I’ve ever had that failed it’s first MOT).Good luck to anyone with that car today, although it was spotted near where the guy I sold it to lived, so maybe he still has it.

Common in car advertising here, for the vehicle to be fitted with a stamped aluminum license plate in the correct location, but the plate is painted body color.

Or, if you're Land Rover, have Northern Ireland plates on and drive around Montana.

Still suffering after covid. Not finished a meal for over a month. Knackered all the time - just want to sleep. No energy.

Starting to wonder if / when things will get better?

That's the effects I had. I caught it on boxing day. Not really poorly just very tired all the time with a massive case of cba. Off my food altogether too, It's only the last week or two I've become almost normal.  I'm nearly 50 and I think age plays a big part. My 9  year old daughter caught it about a week later and had no effects whatsoever. We only knew as we'd tested her before sending her to my mothers.

Four full weeks for me and I thought it was going to be permanent. You will get better though just try and be positive.

Give it another year or so and the once-excellent Classic FM will be non-stop André Rieu Strauss waltzes...

My mother's mother was adopted and my uncle has been working to find out who her father was. And he has now managed that, so my unknown great-grandfather was a German and a mechanic in the German army in WW2. He was sent to the eastern front after Norway and was killed in the battle of Narva only 25 years old and his remains have never been found. This has given me chills and made me think a lot, only 25 years old no matter which side one is on this is terrible, at home there were parents who never got to see their son again, and in Norway there was one who never got to meet her father and himself who had such a short life and probably lies unidentified in an unknown mass grave somewhere in Estonia. We humans when it comes to it are basically idiots.

I know there's been various threads on here about used car prices, but having actually been trying to buy a car for the last day or two I'm wondering how much of it is down to people flipping stuff. I know it's legal and all that, but Jesus it's frustrating.

I mentioned on here the cat on my sister in laws Civic was stolen at the weekend - she decided she wanted something new. Fair enough. She's not on Facebook, so I said I'd keep an eye on it to see if anything decent was posted.

Without exception, everything I've sent her (Fiesta x2, Ka, Astra, Micra, Megane) was sold or had someone coming to see it in the next hour by the time she said she was interested. The slowest was within 4 hours of the advert being posted, the fastest was in 27 minutes. Without fail, they've all been listed the next day by someone else for between 50% and 100% more than the original price. The best is the Megane which has actually been flipped twice - its gone from £1,895 to £2,795 to £3,395...

Because she needs a car to get to work, she's therefore ended up paying £1300 for a 54- plate Golf FSi from a bombsite car dealer, which is possibly not the optimal outcome.

My Audi just shat it's clutch slave cylinder from what I can tell. I was out on my lunch break earlier and the pedal suddenly went to the floor and it was stuck in third gear. I nursed it to a suitable place to abandon it and went back to work. I arranged for recovery and went back to it an hour later and it was drivable, the clutch bite was right at the floor but it was possible to go in and out of gear. I had it recovered anyway and had a quick look underneath for leaks, the only damp area I could find was between the bellhousing and gearbox, the slave is internal and from what I've read it's a bit labour intensive and expensive to sort out.

Bums.

We had the same happen twice with one of our old PD130 Golfs a few years back. It was the slave cylinder both times and as you say, it's internal unfortunately.

There's been water pissing down our road all week, it's filled the drain on one side of the road and it's also coming out of the one on the opposite side. Anglian water came out and minced around on Monday. Obviously not fixed and clearly them wasting a "precious resource" is not a problem.
