attachicon.gifAUDI COUPE FRANCE.jpg

I bought this Audi Coop back in 2010 from Keith Adams for £400 or something like that (1.8 four pot TWOTRO) with the express intention of going on honeymoon in it. A month before the wedding our landlord decided he wanted the house for his daughter, money was then squeezed to breaking point so the Audi went.

Unbeknown to us it was acquired by a consortium of friends who then presented it to us at our wedding reception, we went on honeymoon in it to France via a few days in London and had a great time. Should have kept it really but had other stuff going on so it went on eBay and our friends split the wonga.

Now that has warmed my heart right up. You have lovely friends!

Lol so many.

Black Mini designer, had stripey seats and was scrapped* as the clutch was stuck on. Sod all else wrong with it.

One owner Ghia X Fiesta mk2, never seen another and lost it due to being a cock.

Capri mk3 cabaret I let rot on the drive. Thinking about it it wasn't that bad and is apparently still out there somewhere.

And tons of others. We had a garage so I've had loads of stuff I'd wish I'd kept but where would I have put them all?

This......

Sold it around 10 years ago for £1500 as we needed the funds.

Regreted it the moment it left the drive.

Also this....

post-19687-0-35510500-1471003256_thumb.jpeg

Needed a grand for a rental deposit so it was sold, one stipulation was if it was ever up for sale again we'd get first refusal.

Saw it on their driveway looking like this....

post-19687-0-05796500-1471003428_thumb.jpeg

Asked the owner to sell it me but "it's not for sale".

2weeks later it was in the scrapyard local to me😡

Actually I also miss my old series 2a Landy. I had it for years, put it together from two wrecked 2As to make one slightly less terrible heap. Used it for work, dating, shagging, dragging bits of steam engine around, commuting 80+ miles a day, off-road monging, touring europe - everything. Went from a V8 to a 200 Tdi which wasn't as good but more reliable and much cheaper to run. Even got it in Max Power once, they wanted a "jeep" for some feature on dogging.

I sold it to a mate who drove it until the chassis snapped, then took it apart, then used most of it to rebuild another, then scrapped the rear body and axles. It was only a collection of bits of roughly the same age but still a shame.

Strange one this, as the car I'm going to nominate is the same make and model as I currently drive.

A 2001 Rover 75 which was a blind eBay win. It was green, low spec & a 2.0 v6 engine which was utterly unremarkable in the power and MPG stakes - but sounded lovely.

I think I paid £375 for it from a builder - it was the car his wife used & came with an extensive history folder.

Kept it for a year and did a 3000 mile road trip round France in it which was great.

Fond, fond memories. Really bonded with that car!

I recently bought an 02 MG ZT. 2.5 KV6. Cat C admittedly. Lots of work had been done by previous owners on here. Water leaks fixed etc. Still needed work. I have replaced all the brake discs and pads, cleaned up and waxoyled the rear suspension, replaced the mish mash exhaust system. Done loads. Still a lot to do. Timing belts need doing, which I will do having bought the kit/tools. The car is Brooklands green and looks fantastic IMO. Fully intend to restore and enjoy, no regrets! A fine car if looked after.

'Shed 2' or "RenaultSport Clio Sport Nurburgring Edition" as she was called.

fJlU5Tn.jpg

Utter poverty spec inside and not been looked after properly in a while! The 1.2 8V engine had't had an engine change in what must had been years and I never bothered to do it...in the space of a year me & the family put 12,000 miles or so on it. Around 6,000 of them was knackered front wheel bearings thanks to going down straight bits of track at Knockhill sideways!

Was also used as a workhorse, with the rear seats removed it was a van transporting the the old kitchen (including the kitchen sink and old dishwasher) to the tip. As well as being the car I did my first track days in.

You magnificent basterd, you are truly missed.  :-(

I was going to say that as a tax exempt Landie, I bet the id is still alive on its replacement. Apparently not though - DooVLA say the last mot ended in 2012.

This,

side_zpsb3ececb2.jpg

Bought it in 2006 for £400. It was a fantastic car, never caused any trouble, was an absolute pleasure to drive and looked good too. It was easily the best car I've ever owned. If you were only allowed one car for your lifetime, one of these would be it! Nothing else can even get close.

I sold it in 2013 or 14 when the Mercury came over from the states as I needed the room. I never wanted to but I had to sell something. Ever since I've regretted it, I really do miss that car.

And this,

IMG_0770_zpsfb7a0355.jpg

Similar to the 740 above really but with a much worse appearance. It was a right old beast of a thing but was totally solid and reliable. I loved driving around in it.

Sold on in the end to Torsten off here. Again I had to sell as the Granada had just been taken in!

It was on ebay at first but the banger boys were circling, one of them won it in the end so I made my excuses and he didn't get it! I couldn't let it go like that.

In the end Torsten came and got it, I think he used it as a tow car for a while but then sold it to a guy on retro rides who sorted the awfull bodywork out and did a mild hot up and facelift on it. It's still going I think, up in Scotland. It's now metallic blue with a silver roof!

Wasn't that the article that 5th Gear presenter and massive chod lover Jonny Smith did under an alias?

He mentioned to me one day when recollecting the "research" for that article that a 300C Estate with blacked out windows isn't a great vehicle to use in the Peterboghorror woodlands when you apply the brakes and illuminate a load of old blokes with their little chaps in hand expecting to see someone at it in the boot.

And that he saw a larger lady getting eaten out in a Sierra Estate, and like the rest of us, sat trying to recall the last time he'd seen a Sierra Estate in the wild.

I don't have a picture of it, but the one that was so frustrating.

I was due to sort out a new company car with my dad's business when I was about 21. We'd settled on a Punto, but in the meantime I'd been driving his white Mercedes 200T (W124, but on a carb, 1988-late registered on a G so no cladding) and had really grown to love it. He said he wouldn't sell it, but then lost control of it on snow, damaged a bumper and tierodthat I got fixed (my first experience of Mercedes genuine parts being insanely cheap), and then he stopped driving it so much. I got my Punto, and it kept on being a pain and needing warranty work, and I wanted the Mercedes - but he said it was too... something. Not sure what.

He traded it in for a new Cherokee, and I ended up swapping the miserable Punto for a Marea Weekend from the dealer. It would have been so much cheaper for me to just take the Mercedes off his hands.

Reminded of this because I'm driving a 200TE and it's all just like before, and yeah, I could easily have kept that 200T from 1996 to now alongside the usual smattering of cars, and been totally happy with it.

This was no-where near such highbrow levels of journalism, it involved the entire editorial staff dressing up like GI Joe and assorted totty from the office being roped in to be "surprised".

Here you go, found a picture, joys of Facebook.

The ID and a few other bits are still around, obviously no one would be naughty enough to use them though.

Most defiantly this

65Q6XXN.jpg

I owned it for a few years and generally tidied it up/improved it.

Smashed it up in 2008 writing off the brand new BMW i went into but i repaired it and resprayed it (before the above pic was taken) and drove it lovingly since until i fell on hard times in 2010 and had to take it off the road but my situation didn't improve so it was sold.

I was devastated when it went.

I have been tracking it on doovla and it has remained MOT'd and taxed since but i have no idea where it is.

The should have kept list is hugely long, but the one I really miss is the first Austin Dorset Tourer which I owned. I only sold it because a house move was going wrong and I needed cash quickly. I'd love it back, but realistically with no garage that would not be a sensible thing to do even if it came up for sale.

post-3477-0-56420600-1471030309_thumb.jpg

This is it on the day I picked it up after buying it. The two friends in the car came up on the train with me to Todmorden and we drove it back down to Barry is South Wales, hood down all the way. We mainly avoided the motorways and It didn't miss a beat, although it was getting a bit cold and dark by the time we got back and the headlights were appalling.

(The photograph was taken outside Rosie's brother's house in Ramsbottom we called in on the way past but unfortunately he was out)

The Dorset Tourer was made in Australia and very few have made it over here, I did subsequently manage to buy another (which had been shipped over with this one) but that also had to go when another house move was going wrong. I was aware of a third one, but know that one has gone to the States.

really miss my 1964 SIIA 88" Land Rover it was brilliant. I had from 19 to 25 sadly sold to fund a house deposit. How I wish I had stuffed it under a tarp on my parents drive and sorted it out later. I have dreams about this car. It had a tuned 3.5 V8 under the bonnet with a weber 500cfm carb. No silencers in the exhaust and sounded incredible.

One of my favourite moments was beating some boy racers who were giving us some grief in a 1.2 Nova sr off the lights in it. Not particulary spectacular you might think but I was towing a mate (solid bar) in a broken down for Ford Focus estate at the time....

This took place on a private road, Allegedly (in case our internet lawyers are reading)

Well I suppose once 14 year olds could get their wank fodder on the internet, there was no longer any reason to pretend to read about terrible cars covered in fibreglass.

I miss the early Revs Magazine, before they turned it into Max Power Mk2

A 1991 Audi 80 2.0e with 188k on the clock when I sold it .

Many years ago I had a Citroen zx 1.9d ( worst car I've ever had ) which was worth about a bag . I needed money for an engagement ring so I sold it . I needed wheels so went with dad to Saltash car auctions . Didn't see anything I wanted / could afford but the very last car was this doom blue Audi with 160k and a massive sent in a rear door . Bonnet wouldn't open either ! I got it for 330 inc fees and it provided 2 years reliable transport .

An added bonus was that some bint in a Landy reversed into it and dinged the bonnet / grille . Her insurance gave me £650 to repair it and I sold the car another year later for 350 .

^^ +1. Lovely story Scruff.

I miss all my 2.9 4x4 Sierras but in particular a burgundy glsi hatch with steel wheels, 1.6lx badges and completely worn out (ie; lovely and soft) suspension. I lived, traveled and fornicated in it and for me, barring perhaps fuel economy, was the perfect car.

Sounds like you need a SIERRA BASE.

This one, One owner, went everywhere in it, twice round the clock, camping, took it abroad, shagged in the back on a sheepskin rug yadda yadda yadda.

Would probably hate it if I drove it today on its skinny 135 section tyres.

H534EBV.

Photo0082.jpg

I only had it for 2 or 3 years but in that time did 1.5 engine conversions, put an IS interior in it, went through about 3 sets of different wheels, plus probably other stuff I've forgotten.

The second engine conversion got put on hold when I went to university and then the garage it was in was sold.

I ended up selling it to a breaker as an unfinished project.

Maybe the shell still exists - I have the guys number somewhere and will have a go at buying it back when I have more time and space.

My Renault Savanna 1.9D

IMAG0016.jpg

There was a fud in a Rover 400 did the same commute as me, but at 40mph and still braking on every corner. One day I overtook him closer to a junction than I should have and a guy in an Escort van came out of the junction without bothering to stop or look to the left.

Reno.jpg

I considered getting another one but replacing a good car with another of the same model is always a disappointment. The only car that's come close to the Savanna is the Volvo 850 I have now. It's much better at overtaking, and so am I now.

Impossible to manage just one, here are four all-time favourites:

'78 Landie SWB, utterly crap in so many respects but it offered a similar experience to a 60s Aston, just on the back roads instead of trunk ones. The combination of smell and vibration never leaves you, even though it could never be seen as good at the time.

SudSprint 1.3 twin carb, one of the sweetest cars I've ever had the pleasure of using. It never went wrong, always gave 45mpg under 90mph on long motorway runs, girlfriends loved it. Must've been one of last metal bumper ones in regular use in the mid-90s. Totally peachy.

'85 CX Safari non turbo diesel - as strong a vehicle I've ever known this side of a Russian army truck and with a high-mindedness, style and insouciance only Citroën of old ever managed, it would pull anything provided you didn't mind acceleration to 60 measured in minutes. It regularly towed a 24' wooden sailing boat over the A66 and up the M6 at a steady 55-60 with an ease which was beyond uncanny - a borrowed Range Rover once tried repeatedly to kill its occupants doing the same job (eventually at under 40mph), only to savage the bank account having failed.

It was a little like a highbrow Aunt who scared the living daylights out most people - aloof, condescending, perfectly dressed, independently wealthy, perfect manners and so on, but with a phase of her life which included hard drugs, multiple sex partners and court appearances which gave depth to a rounded character, for those daring to dare go there.

'84 900 t16, one of the first and in two-tone silver/grey with a gorgeous plum leather interior. Total quality pussy magnet. Fast, civilised and tough. Felt like a wooden-wheeled cart if you took it out after a trip in the above CX, but it was pure testosterone. I adored running these two cars alongside each other.

These were all bought in the late 90s/early 2000s for pennies but failed to hang on to them long enough to benefit from any rise in value, I think the Alfa cost most at a shade over £500 and sold it in pieces, once the shell rotted away.
