Bastard!!

I learned to drive in an Avenger (and a Hunter) in the early 70's and that's far too close to me for comfort. I'm now going to have to stop drinking in case I do something stupid......

Nice spec with its manual box, it even seems well cared for with 3 owners and the MoT history is ok.

Unfortunately he’s half painted it rattle can silver.

It’s not just the driver’s door, it’s all over.

The advert says Powered by a Lexus LS400 V8 Powerplant but it's not got that weird LS400 intake so it's maybe from an LS430 or something.

Pretty sure it's not some southern fried push rod v8.

I'm also pretty sure it's a Lexus engine because I see cam pulleys on each cylinder head.

Grey on an 850 actually looks pretty sharp IMO. I wonder how stodgy it is in 2.0 auto form?

Not stodgy at all.  Obviously 143bhp doesn't make for a fireball in a fairly big car (the 105bhp quoted in the advert is actually the power in kW), but it can be hustled along at a decent pace with no problem, and the fairly small amount it gives away in performance to, for example, a 960 24v, may well be more than sufficiently compensated by its better consumption by owners who do more than minimal mileage.  The engine isn't as smooth as the three-litre, not even nearly, but that's to be expected, but it's very willing when pushed and the car is more than capable of handling all the engine can give.
