Yes indeed it is, Sir.

No velour, no s/r, no a/c, no CD, just one airbag, wind-up glass in the back etc.

Does that mean it's rock bottom bASe spec?

Base my friend. As basic as you could get, like having a hot Steak meal placed in front of you then it being whipped away and an out of date motorway service station sandwich moving into its place.

These are fantastic things,  especially the diesels.

I'd put money on this one having come from Quicks of Chester when new,  quite possibly here...

One of my son's a Special Needs teacher.A few years back, one of his pupils was obsessed with the early Galaxies, particularly the one driven into the river by Richard Hillman in Coronation Street. He wrote a eulogy to one as part of a lesson, describing it as a "real man's car".They don't seem to have survived very well compared to the equivalent Sharans and Alambramhas. There was a very late one on our road until fairly recently but guess it rusted away.Does the 2 litre use a Ford engine or a VW unit?Think the 2.3 was a Ford one though.

I nearly bought a P reg one of these in Seat Alhambra flavour a couple of years ago, 1.9 TDI, 90bhp (?)

Upon asking the seller if he knew whether it needed much for an MOT, I was told to "F.O" ... Glad I swerved that one! 😅

£700 for a guaranteed MOT failure I took that as.. not for me!

Your man for plates is called Retro Plates on Facebook/IG. They are about £50 a set which seems expensive at first, but they are first class. I had a set made for my RAV last year from a photo on Flickr of a different car and they are perfect.

Top bombing btw. This is proper ‘work from home childminder’ spec. I imagine there’s even a wax crayon crushed into the carpet somewhere.

Many memories of my dad's V reg Sharan he had from new! (for 3 years as a company car) We went to France alot in it, I didn't find it comfy to sleep in back then 😂

I remember the reg V517DDC, it's dead

Didn't these come with the Ford 2.0 dohc jobbies too? Had one in a smiley Transit which proved a faithful if slightly juicy unit. Thanks to @KWhiteI now know the swivels I had in the same van are from a Galaxy GLX, they're in storage though will find their way into the Berlingo when i get some time.

These looks chuffing useful carvans, more so than a Berlingo due to size and also a bit more legit looking for framing duties. Had all sorts in the Berlingo though it doesn't take much to get into tail wagging doe territory and has only really looked acceptable dragging the Clio.

I'll often employ the time honoured wisdom.

If it ain't right, do it at night.

Oooh nice!

I remember the back 2 seats used to live in the garage most of the time, and occasional long trips he'd take the middle row out and leave me and my stepbrother right at the back with all the leg room, that was cool!

Another memory was being fully loaded with a house move and dad being on the phone physically holding it between his hands and shoulders (as was the style then) deftly changing gears and steering and etc whilst having an animated phone call negotiating Peterborough city centre. Thank goodness those days are gone 😂

I remember these being the ‘in car’ to have, very of the time. I think Phony Tony had one? I remember my dad borrowed a 2.3 automatic for the weekend from this firm he was working for and it being phenomenally thirsty. Not many 2.8 left either as the chain used to shit itself in true fashion at 80-90k.

Great save though as I cannot remember seeing even the shape after that for a long while!

I remember they were everywhere for a brief while around Peterborough, as taxi's and private vehicles. Then the zafira mk1 crept in.

I don't remember when I last saw a proper 'people carrier' without a taxi plate on the back now you mention it... Always modern galaxy's shuffling up and down the m40, sometimes blowing black smoke out the back in time with the throttle

2.3 was a Ford engine, launched in Sierra and Granada in the late 80s, also transits and these.  As above 90s RS2000 had a 16v head, at one time a conversion was to put the 2.3 block in the Escort.

A friend was one of seven kids and his dad had a Galaxy when they first came out replacing a 21 Savanna.  When my friend passed his test he would drive us and we had various uncomplimentary names for it.  Fond memories of licking the windows at traffic lights.

I may not have ever owned a Galaxy but I have plenty of experience including to Europe.

One was a friend's company 2.0 manual and it struggled to climb out of the port of Dover with 5 guys and enough booze to keep us all drunk for a month!

Another trip was a different friends German registered 2.3 Auto going to Hungary 5 up and I was banned from doing over 100 mpg because it was frightening changing lanes.

They are not so bad.

Fancy Plates were happy to mess around with dealer bits on my Mondy plates.

I had a play about on the Fancy Plates website, they have a much better customisable plate builder tool than many I have tried, and only £29 a pair. This was the best I could do myself on there:

That's acceptable, but not perfect. I was going to contact them directly, see if they could knock up something better, but...

You're thinking of https://www.dmb.uk.com/ but they've stopped doing them. Others have stepped into the breach though - google throws up quite a few.

A nice original base Galaxy - not seen one of those for years 🙂

Thank you! Yes, it was DMB I was thinking of. I gave their number a call, they do still do reproductions, though I couldn't see them on their website. I asked about what else they do, it's mostly Ford plates, they have files for most of the Ford dealerships, but they are open to having a go at other brands' dealer plates, especially if we can email pictures of something to copy. Which is nice.
It's £37.50+6.95 p+p, so they are knocking them up for me today.

That looks brill! I'd have deffo given them the job if the other places couldn't do it.

I've done the sidelight bulb, and I have the wipers in the house here to change the rubbers, so I'm just waiting on the plates, then I think it'll be MOT ready :D

Hnnng those interior shots bring back childhood memories 😂

Would have gone from a 3 year old Mondeo to this with a ve badge on, I didn't know how lucky I was as a kid 😂

Trying to think what my stepmum would have had, was after the 2cv, it might have been the AX forte, then the v reg clio 3 door from new
