RetroShite
Decided to raffle this one off next week. 1990 VW Taro 2wd pickup. Bought it in the summer, just had a new clutch fitted and new mot but after driving it around at the weekend I'm just really not feeling it so it's got to go. Yes, I still have the awful looking canopy. Same owner for the last 30 years. I quite possibly paid over the odds for it as they were pricing it with sentimental value. Initially they wanted £7k but I got it down to £4.5k and just spent a further £500 on a new clutch plus did some welding for its mot. I love the look of it but it's not very nice to drive, slow, under powered, heavy steering etc Popsicle and Coprolalia
worldofceri
Had a bit of spare time this afternoon so I gave my mother’s Clio a quick wash and vacuum. She’s had it since new and it’s done fewer than 38k miles. It turned 20 years old in July. The photos flatter it as it’s Pogweaseled and lacquer-peely af, and every panel is scraped or scratched. I’ve had a bit of a poke around underneath though and surprisingly couldn’t find any rust on the shell really at all. The front suspension components all look quite corroded so will perhaps need wishbones before too long (the strut top mounts already need doing). Back axle looks OK; Don’t know if they’re a weakness on these like they are some contemporary Peugeots? Whenever these are mentioned or come up for sale there always seem to be comments along the lines of mayo under the oil cap. Surprisingly, given the low mileage and the amount of time it sits around doing nothing, this one has never suffered from it. I use it occasionally and it still drives pretty much like new. I don’t really like driving it, mind you, as it’s slow and I find the upright driving position annoying. My son is 15 now and, although she hasn’t said anything yet, I think my mother might give up driving in a couple of year’s time and let him have it. I only recall seeing that one, never seen another, I don't think they where popular when new. Shame you've not gelled with it, it does look a straight, honest truck. The reason for the 5 1/2 hour round trip was that I'd bought this. It's a folding electric scooter, and yes it is road legal. It's on a 64 plate, Chinese made (natch) and has a 1hp electric motor in the rear wheel hub and a 36v lithium ion battery under the footboard. It has a partial twistgrip throttle like the shifter on a cheap mountain bike, an on/off LED headlight (no sidelight or main beam), indicators in the ends of the bars, cable disc brakes and a surprisingly loud horn. The seat / luggage rack assembly unclips with a simple spring clip and lifts off (once you've unplugged the wire to the rear light) and then the handlebars fold down flush with the footboard. So what's it like to ride? Absolutely fucking terrifying. It takes off like a scalded cat and will wheelie if you don't have your weight far enough forward. The wheels are tiny, there's lots of play due to the folding nature of the beast, it's slow (23mph flat out on the flat) and it weighs bugger all so bounces around all over the place. I bloody love it. There is a reason I bought it (apart from the fact that it's hilarious fun): when I dump a car at the station when I'm heading off on a collection mission, when I get home I can then hop on this and ride to the station to pick the car up - quicker than cycling and better than relying on the sparse bus service around here. It'll get from here to Norwich on a charge although it'll take a while and I'm sure it'll be fun* being overtaken by Farmer Giles in his John Deere and silage trailer. Here it is in the boot of the Toyota. It'll fit in the Getz fine but only with the rear seats folded down. I went to see a mate on this this evening, 8 miles in total on unlit country lanes. Absolutely petrifying. I'm not exaggerating when I say that 23mph felt too fast at several points - hit a bad bump in the road even at that speed and it feels like you're going to come flying off. Headlight (LED) is mediocre but just about adequate for the speeds it can do. One has to keep both hands on the bars at all times - hitting any kind of a bump while riding one-handed will send it into a speed* wobble. That said it hummed along OK and the battery is still showing over half full so the 20-mile quoted range seems plausible. I might try and stick to smoother roads from now on though... RetroShite
Accidental eBay win! My dad had one of these when I was younger, I think he inherited it from his father and kept it for a good few years. He always had company cars so only have vague memories of the Corolla on family holidays. It got scrapped eventually due to some minor issues like a flat battery or something, my dad isn't very mechanically minded and I'm sure he had to pay to have it taken away. Looking forward to seeing what this one is like. Probably very dull. Stevebrookman, RayMK, Pat Earrings and 21 others

It'll work for a bit but they don't last and often bugger up the fuel economy too. My TT had a BBT branded unit from Euro Car Parts on it. I was getting ~20-25mpg with reduced boost. Replacing it for a genuine Bosch (only £60 too) restored it to 30+ mpg and all the power back. stuboy

The only thing I remember from driving it is that it didn't appear to have a rev limiter and would do 70 in second gear, which was going some for an early '80s 1.3-litre family car. egg
Hi folks - did you miss me? What do you mean you didn't even notice! Not been a great time, my daughter has been in hospital for last 11 days, she's OK, but we went through half a dozen GP visits and an A&E visit that escalated into a hospital stay. Hopefully things have turned a corner now. The i10 FTP'd on me (battery) while at the Drs - great - had to do an Autoaid call out because of my daughter being unwell and no time to mess about. Call-out was efficient - but did cost me the £25 for an 'older' vehicle. Tayna got a new Yuasa here the next day - have found their service to be very good. Also had a clean MOT pass on the i10 today, which was good. RayMK, grogee, Sunny Jim and 23 others
richardmorris
Had an audit today from BSI. Much of which was spent looking out the window at various bugatti, mclaren and Ferrari. When he saw my 2cv poster on the wall he asked if I watch YouTube videos as he follows Hubnut! Although he does prefer the large engined vids ( Betty and the previous jag etc) and any mention of TWC makes him stop watching He says he’s far too invested in Ian’s home life- cats, dogs, holidays etc! He also watches Modern Heroes (and Fully Charged show.) his daily is a Passat, but dream car a DS ( this was just as a powder blue Aston Martin DB5 stopped outside the office window). i mentioned that a friend ( @Six-cylinder) had a new Range Rover that has failed to proceed more often than a Peugeot 404, he said that as a native of Solihull he didn’t believe it and that it must have been specified with the faults as extras. all in all, not a bad audit. wuvvum, nomiST, chaseracer and 14 others 9
RetroShite
My Mrs father died recently and left a car that we've been tasked with disposing of. It's a 2013 Peugeot 107 on around 75k miles and one owner from new plus FSH. Interior is minging, it's never been vacuumed and it needs a good clean inside and out. The proceeds of its sale will go back to the estate. It's mot'd until March and could be a cheap runner for someone but I'm really not sure what to do with it as I can't see anyone wanting it in its current state.
