Didn't Glas get swallowed by BMW? If I squint it could be a shrunken 2002 Touring.

Yes they did, and when they were taken over their more sophisticated models, including the 1304, were re-named as either BMW or BMW-Glas. And Glas's former factory, at Dingolfing, is now BMW's biggest works, they make Rolls Royce bodies there.

Here's some speculation about the origins of the 2002 - https://www.bmw2002.co.uk/history-of-the-02/glas-bmw-tourings/

I did know that Studebaker were still going in the late 50s, but I didn’t know they offered a price leader/poverty spec model named the ‘Scotsman’. And yes, that name was chosen to emphasise the low price and frugality of running it.

Sold better than expected, including one to FD Roosevelt’s (wartime president) widow Eleanor.

36mpg! That's impressive for a yank lump with no aerodynamics and a slush box automatic.

I'd imagine the 36 mpg quoted applied to the manual gearbox version - still impressive, though.  Studebaker were oddly pro manual for an American car maker.

American auto popularity was nearly always down to the buyer, virtually every yank had the tick box for manual, almost all US cars were ordered on tick box spec 30’s through to 80’s, so the auto preoccupation was from drivers not manufacturers

I didn't know until today that Bertone made a prototype X1/9 'spider' in 1980. Source Car Design Archives - hope these aren't just photoshop?

I looked at that 2 or 3 times before I realised what was wrong.

Of course, there never was a open top X1/9

Well here's an interesting discovery

Quote

My name is Tim Barton, and my partner (Dave Anders) and I built 33 "LITTLE SISTER" X19 topless conversions. Our company in 1979-1980 converted production cars to full convertibles, targas, T-Tops, etc. We were the first to do Mini Truck ragtops, and won the first SUPERBOWL OF MOTOCROSS with two converted Toyota Trucks.
