Took a delivery at lunchtime. I'm in the good books now as Ms Keymaster always wanted one.

Was a neighbours car. Has been sitting for about 6 months. The roof needs cleaning and sealing and the car in general wants a thorough valeting.

GOOD: History file mentions remap. Heated Seats.

BAD: Keeps indicating left. Don't mention the OMGTAXBAND.

An enjoyable few weekends are ahead getting it cleaned up and ready for the 3 sunny days we might get this year.

Anyone want a leggy CLK 220 CDI?04e82507d44266362bd13c6cdedcbc39.jpg

Welcome to the £59 per month boot in the baws club, not to mention the horrendous 28mpg. If you have the Noobtune map though it is (almost) worth it.

28 MPG vs the fun seems pretty good value.

You could always run about in a 25 year old RAV 4 automatic which generates more heat than light when it comes to acceleration, and averages 28mpg.

Well bought on the Saab.  I remember we had a brand new one on demo at the first radio station I worked at.  At 21 I felt like the king of the world driving that around.

Yesterday I took a break from the hell that is currently life and polished and waxed the 75.

After some helpful advice on here I made sure that the one thing that HMRC or the greedy bastard solicitors aren't getting is my late dad's private plate. It's now off his car and on retention and will go on this at some point in the future. I'll put K500 on the TT, if I ever use it again that is, still on SORN just now.

I love my Saab. thankfully my VED is slightly less painful (£385?) but it is a couple of years older and an auto, probably get the tune done in the spring.I get mid 30s on a run but TBH even in the 20s it is utterly worth it.

Looks great in blue. Is that the face lifted interior with the normal headunit or the Saab specific things?

Thanks, the electric blue is a great colour on these isn't it.

It's 07 model year so has the facelift dash and the original owner specced it with nav and heated seats so it's pretty nice for a base model.

Not sure what remap it actually has... The invoice is from a Vauxhall specialist in Dorset and helpfully says nothing more than "REMAP £250 + VAT". Have emailed them on the off chance they can advise, but not anticipating a reply about a job they did 10 years ago.

Sweet, much more you can do with ther facelift if needed to.  I suspect the remap will have been a 'fix' possibly?  Hard to tell really but Noob is only £90 I think (plus p&p each way) so I'll be probably getting it done.  I believe he resets it to factory spec beforehand anyway.

@Dabookaand @Keymaster how do you find the suspension? Mine feels incredibly firm around town, sometimes like there's no suspension at all, but on the open road it's fine.

^^ THIS!

Mine is lowered which won't help but it is as you describe.  Feels like a knock from the rear (o/s in particular) over smallish things such as my lowered curb, but doesn't really occur on speed bumps etc.  I've had it on the lift at work, and during last weeks MOT / repair I asked for a going over but nothing at all appears wrong.  Feels like it is bottoming out?   I plan on replacing the exhaust rubbers and checking the hangers etc, just to rule those out.  And as you say it's great on open roads.

Haha that is not a question I can answer.. so far I've only driven it 300 yards from my neighbours to my house, and then had to leave the battery on charge all day in the hope it is recoverable emoji20.png

When you say recoverable what do you mean?  I bought a new battery for mine almost immediately, about fifty quid from Tayna (where else?!) and it improved a few things, mainly my anxiety that it'd be flat when I needed it. If it has been stood for a while it'll probably be goosed anyway

Hi @Dabooka Incredibly I got a reply off the garage that did the remap, they say it was a topgear tuning stage 1 map "done for economy".

The battery was new last year so worth a try to bring it back to life using SOS mode on my charger, before getting a new one. I'm not going to be using the car til I've reproofed the roof and given the interior a thorough clean anyway... Looks like a dry weekend ahead so I'll get most of that done in the coming days.

Starting to get a bit twitchy about the phantom left turn signal after scanning the forums on the topic. Seems a common issue and potentially a bit of a pig to sort out

Wow, an 'economy' map.  Just..... why?

I see what you mean now to recover the battery.  I reckon I'll need a new, new battery for the Cougar, it'll be sat idle for a year+ and I can imagine that's goosed too.I didn't know about the left turn problem, what's the cause of that then? I had one on an old Pug 206 that was commonly caused by a fualty Comm unit in the steering wheel.

Yeah a bit of an odd one on the remap feedback. I'll have to assess the 0-60 performance to try and guage if it's got any extra horses.

Battery seems to be alive again, will get the tester on it later to be sure it's sustainable.

Indicator issue can relate to a duff stalk or parts inside a circuit board in the steering column called the CIM.. problem is that it also means new keys if it needs replacing so £££. Seems there are some ways to repair the existing one too. Either way I'm hoping it was a flat battery gremlin or a duff stalk issue

along with the good news on the Panda (see other post) the Favorit has also been woken from its post ULEZ slumber and moved onto the driveway for a pre MOT once over. Once the Estelle had donated its battery it fired up instantly. Poor thing is starting to look a bit worse for wear though :(

Repeated my first ever drive!
50 years ago today I turned 17 and thus went for my first "Learner" drive, in this Riley 1.5, 8 miles to school.
Luckily for me Dad's commute was past the school gates. I drove that Riley all over the place during the next few months, which were it's last few months on the road as it was utterly rotten and by the end, just running on three. (It had seized while I was driving, damaging a piston and to stop the resultant massive oil consumption the pushrods of the seized cylinder were removed)

This is the only photo I can find of 644 JYC. I'd removed the front uprights, hubs and brakes for possible use on my Minor.

M25 shut between J10 & J11 this weekend.  Gaurdian:

Quote

Drivers have been warned to steer well clear, turn off the satnav and stick to the official diversions as some of the biggest roadworks since the Romans results in part of the M25 motorway fully closed for the first time in its history this weekend.

Epic traffic jams are anticipated, with a five-mile stretch of Britain’s busiest motorway, the London orbital motorway, closed for engineering from 9pm on Friday.

This weekend marks the first ever planned daytime closure of the M25, in what could prove a marathon ordeal for motorists in south-west London and Surrey.

On the off chance you need a bit of encouragement, don’t worry about it ageing gracefully. I have this argument with myself with the Sierra almost endlessly, but it’s still alive - still a car and still doing its thing.

As a kid, we lived next door to a vicar who was evidently homosexual but the most gentle and warm man you’d ever meet. He had the exact same car as this. Fond memories (no, he didn’t) !

Not sure how I drove this to Monaco and back, could hardly sleep with the nerves of driving it to the  MOT station today. That said as soon as I hit the road I felt ok, knew the car would be fine and really enjoyed driving it again for first time in about 8 months

Thanks to @Rust Collectorfor the tip on running a wire from the tailgate earth to a body earth, it's solved all the dashboard light gremlins

Car passed the MOT,  I think a couple of the crusty bits around the turrets might need attention before the next MOT but for now they are deemed acceptable

It’s not elegant but it gets the job done. If you figure out what’s gone wrong with the original earth before I do then I’ll have to copy your notes. Well done on the pass!

Rounded out my unemployment by spending the week driving the Civic and generally larking about.

I also picked up some more goodies for it, SiR door cards which are a bit better for sound deadening and look lush, and an unfinished JDM rear plate conversion that I'm going to prep and have painted.
