richardmorris
I fell into that trap with aviva for a few years. Was only a fiver extra, then only a tenner, then £20 etc until 2 years ago I went fuck it and got Amy insured with a 'not sexist at all' women's insurer and me with zenith! Then moved Amy onto Debenhams 2 years ago, who then increased the premium by 40p this year so we just renewed it, and I jumped ship to someone who would insure the zx and handily got my insurance down despite having an extra sp30 this time. Its all a bloody gameCheck who underwrites them- Debenhams is going bust tomorrow. Broadsword
Weekend in a nutshell - as also noted elsewhere……….. Noticed dim headlights the minute I left he gloriously illuminated M74 Glasgow section………. hmmmmmmmmmmm 02.30ish - rolled off without lights and a full house on dashboard bingo - M74 A72 Lanark junction. 10m from there - under a lovely streetlight and next t oa shed with NOT HERE (building project blocked by locals) I made het call(s) of shame.03.40 - flatbed - FUUUUCK05.40 - Flatbed driver dropped me at Motherwell06.20 - CHOOOO CHOOOOOOOOOO - off to York - Joshua of XJR6 and XJS fame notified. IT FUCKING ROCKS! Pleasure to meet Joshua - drool over the XJS project that will be a stunner when all together as intended and generally talk waffle type life stuff. A true gentleman of Jaguar taste handing the keys over to a Northern hooligan and probably regretting it Bit of a false start with the Golf, but that is why everyone should have options! XJR now in the works car park and receiving many many compliments. They already know - if it's weird, old or fucked - it's mine! I've settled here I think…………That is an epic collection day. It certainly was a surprise when I got the text message at like three in the morning. Happy to oblige and glad it meant you were able to make the most of the trip. Yeah I regret is’s gone, more specifically I regret I’m not in a position to hang on to stuff like that at the moment, but hey ho I can hardly complain. I always seem to find more somehow. It is a brilliant colour. Good you get to enjoy it, and yes everyone tends to be very complimentary towards these things. Drove the XJS the other day and it gets quite a lot of attention, albeit probably due to the distressed look!
beko1987
Check who underwrites them- Debenhams is going bust tomorrow.Eldon, so I'm not too worried, Debenhams is just the retail name of the product. All the paperwork is in the Eldon name Won't affect me either, they wouldn't insure the zx
New POD
Today has seen my annual rage at the price of our insurance renewal (Multicar with the sailor bloke, on my Clio & the OH's Mini). Will be making my annual indignant phone call tomorrow to tell them where to get off, having already found a quote for more than £200 less. Usually they match it without question, not sure I can be bothered to stay this time though. Horrible to think how many people must fall into the auto-renewal trap every year. Wonder what would happen to the industry if everyone without fail shopped around and took the lowest quote offered. Can't imagine the results would be pretty.Yesterday I renewed MX5 with Lancaster and MV6 with Direct Line. Both had gone up. Could I get a lower quote? It seems that having a pointless noisy stainless exhaust has a impact. Lancaster 140 quid, next cheapest 210 quid. Direct line wanted 330 and I couldn't get a quote on line for less than 450. It might be the 21k miles a year of which 18k are business use. I suspect that once you get to those sorts of miles, you have seen enough accidents in your rear view mirror to be able to avoid them all. Says in a smug but dangerously complacent way. dozeydustman
A day of miserable weather means I've not been able to do any car fettling, however I found this at work recently and got it home today. Works. So I decided I'd continue sorting out my Man room of much manly masculinity. Cameras displayed After dinner I started on the desk. Still the Atari to fix up, and I know an LCD telly is a bit incongruous. Close up just for LightbulbFun It's a 1979 2/722F Trimphone. I plan on giving it a good old cleanup and restoration later this year to celebrate its 40th birthday. I'm hoping retrobrite works on the plastic. I need a new volume switch to reinstate the ringer - the rest of the gubbins is there. loserone
Meh, sometimes something like that is worth an ask, if it'd save two hours driving and £30 and you might happen to be going that way anyway. RobT
The old fleet stalwarts back together for the first time in 6 months. As usual, the Metro runs like shit for the 10 miles or so after the winter slumber, but is then back on song. Should probably get four new tyres for it though, but I've been saying that for the last three years. Money innit. I'll be driving the Cavalier to Geneva in a couple of weeks time to visit the OH's family. We keep saying we'll do it rather than fly (like BA Baracus I hate flying, and Geneva airport is a ball sack of a place best avoided), so it's about time we did. I'm sure it'll be fine. Worst case I've got spares and will take the trolley jack, tools etc. Plus brother-in-law is fluent so I'm sure he'll help us out if need be. Bobthebeard
The 2003 Honda Accord bought for £notmuch on here last year has recently been pressed into daily service. It was bought as an MOT failure with leaky front suspension strut and no rear brake/tail lights. EML on and a misfire soon followed. All sorted over a week or so of happy tinkering and MOT achieved. Parked up and not used since last November as not needed. Circumstances recently changed, the Saab was sold and the Chevrolet Tacuma shat it's head gasket so it was needed for the daily grind. Checked everything over and put the car into service. The Accord was booked into Blackpool Honda on Monday for a recall on the passenger airbag inflator, all done FOC of course but 'It will be another hour or so as we do a free car health check sir'. So Honda touting for work then, understand that, fair enough.Expected a massive list of stuff that needed* doing and waited in reception drinking free coffee. The result?Cracked O/S indicator repeater. (Incorporated in door mirror)Squeak (although it was written as sqeek) from auxiliary drive belt area. Just shy of £280 quote.Declined the repair and all done myself for £45.Impressive that a 180,000 mile 16 year old Honda could escape a main dealership with so few 'recommendations'* for work needed. dozeydustman
The cameras are essentially pornography. Lovely. The Canon SLRs from L to R - AL-1, AE-1 Program, AV-1, AE-1, TX, EF & FX, all with a 50mm f1.4 or 1.8 lens. The others are Canon EOS 620, Petri 7 Green-o-matic, Rolleicord 1a (1938) and Box Brownie 620D. Apart from the AE-1P, they all work nicely. The TX and the Petri both have film in, so I had better get snapping! GrumpiusMaximus
