Popular Post Lankytim
Hola Shitters, I've been cutting back my shite collection and I've finally got the total number of clunkers down to zero (unless you count our Multipla and 12 yr old Volvo S40 as shite) Anyway, my shiteless days are over for the time being at least. A mate of mine is having a massive cull of his collection of rare and unusual motors and after a bit of negotiation I've ended up with this- a Mantaray kit car based on a 1958 VW Beetle. I honestly don't know much about this thing. I do know it's been off the road for at least 20 years or so, and stored in a succession of barns. I'm not even sure if it's been on the road after being built as a buggy. It looks in pretty good shape, no obvious rust in the floors, the fibreglass body has the odd graze from storage but it's generally OK. Haven't had it running yet but apparently it's a good runner, 1600cc too. Doe's anyone have any info on these Mantaray kits? I think it's a MK1 and I've read that 250 bodies were made in 1967. No idea how true that is. This is a SWB model on a shortened Beetle floorpan. The logbook says 1958 VOLKSWAGEN UNKNOWN or something similar so hopefully there won't be any funny business with Q plates or anything. Presumably MOT and TAX exempt too. It's getting delivered on Saturday... I've been waiting for this day since I was 5. Coprolalia, The Moog, catsinthewelder and 49 others

Lankytim
I will need some bits for this, the exhaust "bee sting" has snapped off so a nice pair of stainless bazooka things would be good. Also need new tyres (and nicer wheels probably) Also, where can a I get a hood made?

sporty-shite
I've already said this on F*c*b**k, but I'll say it again. This is ACE. I have also wanted one for as long as I can remember. I would love to call dibs on this when it moves, but very much doubt I'll be in a position to.

mercrocker
Full of win, this is indeed. One of the better looking of its type too. Reckon the build date is a good few years after '67 though. Manta Ray came along after GP got going and I seem to remember them being advertised around the 1971/2 period. There ought to be a lot more interest in beach buggies than appears to be the case - you would think the Dubbers would be all over them but thankfully they seem to ignore them. There is a gnarly beach dude round our way who still has the GP he built in the Seventies and I have to say I confess a twinge or two of jealousy when I see him blatting it about in the summer. Well "got" Mr Tim - its a stunner. Faker and eddyramrod
anonymous user
Lovely, it's just a shame it isn't yellow and that you aren't Sherlock Holmes, just so that when Dr Watson asked what it was you could answer "A yellow manta ray, my dear Watson" RichardK, gadgetgricey, eddyramrod and 7 others
spartacus
Good effort! This thread has win written all over it.You've started well by telling us you've got a Multipla and a 12 year old Volvo then bring out the trump card Manta Ray!I think that must unlock all levels on the game of 'Shite'. Lankytim
That'll explain it although it was on the list for sale,v8 fitted I believe...Correct, RV8 powered! I've only ever seen it running once. The list is incorrect apparently, it's the total list of cars he needs to move from their current storage, there's about 5 or 6 on there which he intends to keep, The Porsche 911 being another. Lankytim
The colour is Marinogelb. I'm not a fan of beach buggies though, the only one I have ever driven was truly dire.I've had a few goes in a Nova Beetle kit car and it was pretty dreadful. The worst aspect was the atrocious visibility due to the enclosed cockpit and very low seating. I'm hoping this will be more fun to scoot about in before I invariably have to sell it on. barefoot
