I’d have thought the beavertail and floor would eat well into that chassis payload.

Our old hovercraft trailer was sketchy for many reasons. It looked like a bunch of kids had simply smashed the body off a 1970s caravan, screwed a load of old wood down to make a floor and then painted it green. Because that is exactly what it was. Scouting in the 1980s ftw. 
 

I wish I had a photo of that trailer with the homemade hovercraft on it, being towed behind the mk1 Transit Ambulance that was our “minibus”, because I could basically win Autoshite and we could all have our lives back.

I think the fake Ferrari was 200kgs ish or less. I expected the trailer to handle it poorly because the wheels are underneath the cargo but it was like towing thin air. Was very, very stable and no bother at all. 

I think you could get away with 1000kgs on this maybe once but I wouldn't want to try it. The big man claims to have done a couple of 1 ton bags of sand on it but I'm doubtful. The fear of VOSA is big enough without cargo

Pray for mojo. MOT booked for the Lexus LS at 12 tomorrow at a new place. Finally managed to get this thing attached with brute force.

I've done some cursory checks and I'm hoping for a pass. Rear springs are crusty but liveable. I've driven it a little to clear off the brakes but will need to do some aggressive braking on the way there

Just tested the head gasket on this and I think it's goosed. Took 20mins to get up to temperature but it was for sure building up pressure in the coolant tank, just very, very slowly. I think it's a minor leak and head gasket snake oil might be worth a punt, no coolant leaks at all and the oil hasn't even a hint of mayonnaise. Also considering doing the head gasket myself even though it's provisionally been sold already and I have no mechanical skills, could be a good way to learn. Any thoughts on the head gasket sealer fluids? Do they make proper fixes messy later on?

Frustratingly I can't upload video but I did the bubble test with this. The blue fluid is for petrols only so no colour changes. You can see the uneven level due to gentle bubbling.

Also it's not going to do anything I'd think where the leak is from the cylinder TO the coolant jacket as it's never going to get into the void forming the leak.  Especially where you're dealing with diesel engine compression ratios.

If you were billowing steam or losing water because of coolant going the other direction, might be worth a punt.  But if combustion gases are getting into the cooling system, I would be very doubtful of it doing any good.

Also, yes they can cause headaches later.  They were fine for 60s and 70s motors as a get you home fix, but with how narrow bore so much stuff is on a modern car I'd be very hesitant to put anything like that near it other than as a get-you-home-maybe emergency measure.

I paid £1400 about 3 months ago and I've done 4500 miles. I have done sweet fuck all maintenance beyond a single service. No idea on price but assume it's significantly less than I paid. Think £700 if that's not miles off. 

 

Rexton GOOD:

- December MOT

- OM662 so it will veg very well

- Manual

- I've changed the oil, oil filter and the fuel filter twice

- tow bar, 3500kg limit

- I haven't found any holes in the chassis rails

 

Rexton BAD:

- Discs and pads badly needed. Metallic grinding on front

- Rear driver's side tyre is absolute shite but can get you home

- Power steering leak

- The side steps and where they join is rusted to absolute fuck on both sides.

- I've found 1 hole in the body where it connects to the chassis. It's small and currently not offensive 

- handbrake needs tightening but holds

Bloody hell, they say a week is a long time in politics but a day is a lifetime on Autoshite.   

I was kind of hoping to make said purchase after I had sold some of the other rammel cluttering up my drive.  Things may get a bit frosty at home if more shite turns up so, unfortuately, I'm out.

Marginal fleet updates:

106 is getting fixed by a grown up. It shall be on fleet soon. Fuck knows what I'm doing with it but I'm deep into sunk cost fallacy territory here.

Limo: 24hrs of ownership. 500 miles of driving. 

Lessons learned: none. 

This is how I parked it when I abandoned it at the station.
