Supernaut
My older brother has decided he wants another car, after selling his E46 320i touring to Tayne's mate. His spec is: - Under £1000- Big enough to take 4 people (including him) and all their stuff to music festivals, so large hatchback / estate / even a mini MPV. When I say lots of stuff, he had his E46 touring full to the roof last summer.- Motorway cruising ability- Not hilariously thirsty, so 30mpg or more- Decent amount of MOT on it so he can run it for the summer then sell it off with at least a couple of months still remaining- Ideally in Scotland. The closer to Aberdeen the better (I'd probably be the one giving him a lift to go look at it) He specifically said he doesn't give a shit about image. He doesn't really want a mk3 Mondeo, but literally anything else will do. Even a Ronnie Pickering mobile. For some reason he likes Toyota Avensises. He did have an old Corolla for a while, though. It was incredibly boring but also incredibly reliable. FIRE AWAY! This should be interesting.

They are cheap, large, hopefully reliable and as a bonus, come from shitters who want rid of them. They also have excellent collection thread potential. Its a win-win situation. 17-Coffees
This'll do...Size of a can of soup, carry a can of soup but nothing else, great for summer. You know where the seller lives. I KNOWS WHATS I GOT Supernaut, Cavcraft and Vince70

Cavcraft
Carefully selecting all your criteria for a car purchase, our computer has matched you with this: It's nearly in Scotland (if you live in Italy) and has half of the required amount of seats. dave21478
Cyanide Steve is selling this for 400. Four hundred pounds. Thats the price of a mediocre bicycle. Long MOT, huge, one of the comfiest cars ever built, and its quite a sharp looker. Easyjet to London, train to wherever Steve is and drive it back to Aberdeen....possible in a day, but even if there is an overnight stop somewhere, the entire deal isn likely to be done including fuel and food etc for well under the initial 1000 car purchase budget. Supernaut
Surely a 406 estate would tick all of the boxes? Sent from my F5321 using Tapatalk That's actually one of the cars I suggested at the time. This all came about from a discussion last night where I was driving him home after he'd had a few, so not sure how much of it he remembered. I brought up the idea of posting a thread on here to field some suggestions though. Just to see if anything really left-field came up.
rantingYoof
Must say that if SPEEEEED isn't his thing then the burgandy V70 for £400 simply cannot be beaten as a comfy long-distance 'stuff' hauler. On a long trip it'll exceed 30mpg easily and combined mpgs should be close enough. There's always a Honda Accord Tourer: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201609215000007 Or for truly left-field you could always buy something that is PRICED TO SELL (encouragingly): http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201703293819912
2MB
Volvo 850/V70 seems to tick all the boxes. I would imagine a decent stereo would be a bonus for a music (festival) lover and the one in mine is really rather good for the age of the car, especially compared to the laughable effort in 2/7/900 series. aldo135
I may regret this but I have an SVM approved car that just about fits your requirements, it's a 1989 740 2.0 auto, mot'd to October gets 30mpg on a run (bit less round town), will sit at 80mph/3000rpm on the motorway, would take £650 for it. I'm in Edinburgh but could meet you halfway depending when you would be available. rantingYoof, KiwiAlistair, Lacquer Peel and 1 other

drum
More details pleeeaaaase?Mot Dec, 120k miles, my dad has owned it for about 9 years I think, always serviced, lots of receipts including recent new dmf and clutch which cost him £1200. It has been sitting for a month since he replaced it with an XC70. He told me the battery light wouldn't go out when he started it up the other day, so I'll have to investigate that. It's currently parked at my building plot being used to pretend there is someone there and keep the pikeys away. I'm sure I could persuade him to let it go for your brother's budget. It's the D5 163bhp so goes well and 40+mpg. KiwiAlistair

I would probably buy that if I were looking, but my brother isn't as mental as me (in that he's not as interested in working on cars) and just wants something to run for a few months with zero work needing done, and zero faults. Battery light sounds potentially ominous? As I say, it wouldn't bother me but it's not me looking. However, I will be showing him this thread later to gauge his reaction to the cars posted in it.
