It always amazes me how cheap some of the cars from this era are. An 80/90 year old car for price of a mk4 escort..

There are reasons they're relatively cheap.  Most small-engined pre-war cars will be pretty dire to drive in modern traffic, and there's no nostalgia tax on cars this age as everyone who remembers them from their youth has died of old age.

Going to view this tomorrow, was brought home from the hospital when I was born in an 11 and have always fancied one.

This is right on my doorstep so would be rude not to, has anyone on here owned one?

This little Standard 8 has been for sale in Rhyl for 6 months at least now (you can see the pics are from last Summer). I think it looks marvellous porridge spec fun, but £4.5k is clearly just too much money.

There used to be a Renner 11 in the same blue hue on here. It was mega low miles but had a wobbly carb if I remember correctly.

Edit: it was a completely different colour 🤣. Owned by @RobT amongst other shiters.

The Vehicle Description gives a lot of information (in Dutch)  if expanded. Some highlights:

  • I bought the car from a local classic car dealer where I unfortunately misjudged the overall condition of the car.
  • The engine always starts, even in freezing cold, and continues to run well,
  • The block leaks a few drops of oil at the dipstick, but as far as I know it does not consume any oil.
  • Unfortunately, the brake booster recently started leaking. The car still brakes fine, but sucks in air through the brake booster, causing the car to run lean during braking.
  • I have now acquired a 'new' (second-hand) brake booster, but I have not yet installed it.
  • The car was once brown, but it was repainted to an original "Metallic Denim Blue" by a previous owner. Unfortunately, this was not done neatly everywhere, resulting in some paint flaking off.
  • There are 4 small rust holes near the jacking points. I temporarily sealed this to prevent water from getting through while driving on wet roads. There is a slightly larger hole in the bottom of the luggage area.
  • there are some cracks in the upholstery and the wood veneer of the dashboard has bulged.
  • There is a list of newly fitted parts along with details about the sound system.

Personally it I feel it is a big project. The Dutch MOT (APK) runs out 4 May 2024. I found this out via an App which gives details about the vehicle. The same app says that the last change of ownership was on the 4 July 2023.

Not the best example, but these are getting cheap now if this is an example

There's been a couple over this way in the sub £2K price band - usually a short MoT or a BFD like this one - they're falling down through the "Feck paying for preventative maintenance" ownership level and some may come out of there in a half decent state.
Cheaper than a Bini of the same age

I had one identical to this (other than being on a Y plate).  Given (seriously!) to me by Baz formerly of this parish.  Apart from the usual unpleasant Renault gearchange they are a nice thing to drive, if not the most exciting vehicle Renault ever made.

I probably should have kept it longer but I had a 9 Turbo as well at the time and the choice between the two was a bit of a no brainer, so I ended up swapping it for a Škoda Favorit.

Fun times.
