Hold the press! A late addition to the fleet, I don't think it's  tat (yet) and hopefully not shite either but in a change of plan I got a Honda CRZ hybrid.

IMG_20221230_115637.thumb.jpg.91158cf816c3d4513f16d17e143dd4b2.jpg

I wanted a V12 while still doable, then when I got cold feet I decided on another Corvette but the prices are a bit too rich for my blood at the moment. So I got 1.5 hybrid, if anyone can explain why to me please do.  Does this mean I have to hand my AS card in?

Definitely a fleet clear out in the spring involving 2.8 Z3 and 500 SEC!

Might be interested in the Z3, I had a craving for a 2.8 facelift for a while...

Also fingers crossed the CRZ is a good one.

Well given we've only got a few hours left here we go.

Green xjr manual. Intend to to restore...

IMG_20220922_124650619_HDR.thumb.jpg.62455447292e502dc794e53b585eabc2.jpg

Turned out a lot rustier than expected so got another auto xjr off @jmsguzzi. Now converted to manual with the bits from the green car.

IMG_20220806_100557484_HDR.thumb.jpg.e3b4a24da553d640009a96aee947641c.jpg

Bought a V8 Disco off @cpjitservices. Will probably be up for sale next year.

IMG_20221229_125034432_HDR.thumb.jpg.f28cb05a936ca043abb6646b63eb390f.jpg

Did my CBT earlier this year and recently picked up a cbf125 but no fotos.

OUT:

First out was my old xj, previously of @Captain Slow. Had been my daily driver last year and was an absolutely fantastic car. Put 6k trouble free miles on it and fell back in love with driving. Went to a lovely Frenchman who has been all over Europe in it

IMG_20220507_123024450_HDR.thumb.jpg.d501b77e529794f1e53daad36a1c2281.jpg

Green xjr went off as a spares car to a bloke who, at the time, had 4 of the things .

IMG_20221019_130544471_HDR.thumb.jpg.de06f79ba4ef291f8a01883013a74749.jpg

Also at the same time went my old Daimler. This was the longest standing member of the fleet (8 years) but I was never going to get round to fixing it so felt time for it to go. Has gone to a Jag specialist near me. He said he is going to restore it and I sincerely hope he does as it had a lot of sentimental value

IMG_20221019_121551682.thumb.jpg.53cdeb8d26e14caadbc698678959b2eb.jpg

NON MOVERS:

Spaceship Civic diesel. Have put 12k miles on this year and hated most of it lol. Will shift it on if it makes it through winter to drive something more interesting again

TVR Chimaera. I love this thing. Barely driven this year. I intend to change that next year. Will probably become my daily

On the very last day of the year, I dragged this home behind the Duster.

Getting it home came quite close to causing a minor* case of divorce, and may yet still do so, so I sold it rapidly to @Jimbob McGregor who is going to raid it for it's axle and brightwork and weigh the rest in.

Begone, foul beast.

December 2022 - Working: 4: Broken: 2

IN: 2011 Ford Ranger Thunder
STATUS: Working

The back end of ‘21 and the first half of this year were a good period for Walsgrave Transport and I began to have ideas about putting a second truck and trailer on the road. When @ruffgeezer put this Ranger up for sale my interest was piqued when I noticed it already had a tachograph fitted, which would save me a good few quid over getting one fitted.  Over the following few weeks, and egged on by @Inspector Morose, I talked myself into it. At about the same time I won a ‘cherished’ plate in a roffle from @Cord Fourteener, so that went on it. All it needed was the tacho calibrating and it was ready to go. Unfortunately since the summer, costs have been higher and business less brisk, so my plans to have a second trailer roadworthy have faltered. Still, the Ranger is proving a useful backup truck for when the Isuzu is in for service or whatever, as evidenced by this pic Mr Morose took the other week whilst out in the snow.

NON MOVER: 2017 Isuzu D-Max
STATUS: Working

The Isuzu continues to be a superb towing machine. Now on 170,000 miles, averaging around 2,000 miles a week.

NON MOVER: 2000 Vauxhall Astra van
STATUS: Broken

With the Ranger providing runaround duties, I have less use for the old Astra. When the wiper motor packed up just before the mot expired, I parked it up and cancelled the insurance, as I just didn’t have time to do anything with it. Currently still sat around whilst I figure out what to do with it.

NON MOVER:  2005 Honda Accord
STATUS: Working

Mrs WoC’s Honda is still here as it just keeps going. Needs a wheel bearing and a couple of tyres. And a rear bumper if I’m being picky, after someone drove into it in a supermarket car park.

NON MOVER: 1980 VW Transporter Devon camper
STATUS: Working

Our camper continued to be reliable and fun through 2022, though as ever, we didn’t really use it as much as we’d like. Currently for sale as we’re likely to use it even less next year. Terrible time to be selling a camper though and we’ve had very little interest.

In and out again: Renner Espace Mk3 dizzle. Did a good job for us helping with house moves.

In: @SmokinWaffle's Corsa for Mrs Grogee. Weirdly fully loaded eg heated steering wheel. Does 70mpg so I like it a lot.

In: BMW 525i estouring, ex @w00dy. Cheap because issues which I'm gradually whittling down to zero. MoT looms large.

Long term storage with orders to appreciate in value: Ford Puma. In sister Grogee's garage with muddy cat paw prints all over it. Needs a rear bumper because I reversed it into @Cluffy's fence like a simpleton.

Wintering in a council lockup: MG Maestro. Major improvements in 2023 not least becoming driveable. Treats await in 2024 inc ported head and un-rusty tailgate.

In: Seat Ibiza ecomotive. Master Grogee's first whip. He's not passed yet so I'm using it. Ex- @Shoysty. Damn fine moder cah.

Probably going to sell the Beamer in favour of something manual and diesel for motorway use, I have a feeling there will be many miles covered in 2024.

This has been a strange year for me for the first time in 13 years I haven't bought a car this year. And as long as I don't crash the Hyundai before the New Year, I doubt I'll buy any. And I haven't sold any either.

So the same as last time

1963 Mercedes Benz 190DC which I have discovered this year is slower on the hills than a heavily loaded truck with trailer20230630_205517.thumb.jpg.37cfa79453b3012ac9a9fbfc8663f200.jpg

2004 Opel Vivaro which I have badly converted to a camper

One in, an Emergency purchase in the guise of a Honda Accord (actually quite nice).

Its the one with the Honda badge, my Forester just likes to sneak into my photos.........

IMG_20230610_173108081.thumb.jpg.4a57be3a5f8b3e4733e0149dc20ff743.jpg

My current herd of motley motors is...

Daily drivers.

Forester and Accord.

Project in progress

Rover 827

Projects in purgatory

MGBGT and Reliant Scimitar

My better half also got herself a new Motor in the shape of a 3 year old Vitara (but that doesn't really count).

Nothing out and I am running out of space for any new additions..

Not been a very busy year for me unfortunately,

I started the year with a 1977 AC Model 70IMG_0512.thumb.jpeg.36516c89d8c162999fd001a08213d414.jpeg

a 2002 Mini Cooper S

IMG_0092.thumb.jpeg.6185aee4ad69c375972a7dacf914fdda.jpeg

and a 1994 Proton 1.5SL

IMG_0179.thumb.jpeg.7c7006816e4c0d512ebf8b48b915fc55.jpeg

the year started with me selling the Proton which is now owned by @Rust Collector but also went through the hands of @calebaaront

In march I sold the model 70 and bought my newest car to date, a 2013 Fiat 500 Gucci which I actually really liked and would still have today if it wasn’t written off.

IMG_0965.thumb.jpeg.1177963fd9fe84cc8d9e639ea7f82b50.jpeg

I then sold the Cooper S in April with the intention of only having the fiat but a month later it met its demise on the a34

IMG_0941.thumb.jpeg.d22b695b64a980a4aa72143a18a3e577.jpeg

and was soon replaced with this Hyundai Getz that I got for free off a friend

IMG_1036.thumb.jpeg.eeeaeb7cb931a39e09fdbfe58ac9b533.jpeg

The Getz was always meant to be a temporary car until I got the payout from the insurance company for the Fiat and when they finally paid me I bought this 1959 Austin Cambridge

IMG_1114.thumb.jpeg.61f441099d4d71b6d36515aec298621d.jpeg

I did buy the Austin with the intent of it being a daily once it was ready, I also met my current partner this year and in turn took on 2 step daughters so bigger and safer family transport was needed so I sold the Getz to @comfysofa and bought the Pontiac Trans Sport from @RichardK

IMG_1419.thumb.webp.72bbebc0468a32c80e89fe1adda465a5.webp

this was a really cool car and the kids loved it but with lack of use and my partners driveway looking like a used car lot I swapped it with @Rust Collector for his Clio as my sister was after a car.

so currently my only car is the Austin which is my daily steed when I don’t have to drive the girls anywhere, when I actually do have to act like a parent then my partners car is used.

or if we’re counting my partners fleet as well then we have a Rover 75, MG ZT, Austin Cambridge and a Dennis Dart bus

I always forget when it's this time again but it's great to see everyone's updates.

I had intended to not change cars this year, a plan which I stuck* to. I blame this place for having too many nice cars for sale.

No change.  I have thought many times about selling these but nothing has measured up.

75 was bought during lockdown 2020 after my hand went through the bottom of my Clio 172

20230908_190352.thumb.jpg.c5638f7818237cd6978adc6a0d471c5a.jpg

Bought for scrap money 2 years ago from @SRi05 . It's been completely reliable and apart from the battery light and parking sensors I have fixed most of the small niggles.

Out:

20230806_140305.thumb.jpg.15b2e557dd0f47c97441a6beb646aa17.jpg

Lovely example of a Cav but ultimately was just too ordinary to drive, completely reliable and I got a bit bored after a year. It was my 3rd Cav, will it be my last?

Out:

20220911_155705.thumb.jpg.e2d9cf419d801364ce94481c88de403f.jpg

I should probably have held onto this but I can't keep them all. Bought from @Jazoli, kept it a year, was completely reliable and it's had several owners on here since.

In:

IMG_20231206_150927_676.thumb.jpg.ad89d80fb61c8afc49ce0d58ab40a9b5.jpg

Bought from @AndyIggs for my wife as a daily, served her very well for 9 months but I started to get a bit nervous in a LCBL way. Now strictly a hobby car where I can take my time over stuff and not have to rely on it. I am looking forward to it.

In and out:

20230917_153950.thumb.jpg.3b77f5107b6b0f7c0d24f1fb4b1e5fb6.jpg

Bought to replace the TT as my wife's daily but her foot couldn't reach the accelerator pedal. Needed a few bits of bodywork which I had sorted out so ultimately a very nice example when it left. I used it for a bit myself but I only really liked it because I had an identical scale model  when I was younger. Plus I have discovered a pure 2 seater is useless for me as a family guy and in the end it was just sitting in my garage. Still, a lovely car and interesting concept behind it.

In:

Bought from @paulplom very cheaply as a daily for my wife. Happy with this one for the money and just a few cosmetic jobs to do. Very good on fuel so far, 40 plus mpg.

20231126_155459.thumb.jpg.69db20ae8cb99fef45d471d9a19b9cdc.jpg

All of this years sales and purchases have been in some way associated with this place. Winners!

I almost forgot I bought a car this year, some of it is still here and some of it has left, it was this Lanchester.

After three years of service and improvement, the Maestro was moved on to @2110

Obviously the Princess is still here too, eleven years and counting on that one.

It's a net zero this year!

If it counts, the only thing OUT was a deceased engine from the Focus which has been here on fleet for, erm, more than 4 years now!

IMG_20230709_212741.thumb.jpg.3547fac4e75654d02b127a8ac1d15fbe.jpg

IMG_20230709_192040.thumb.jpg.9056a47871ca72d2ec71e15c9824a1ef.jpg

The entire car was nearly an OUT, but I saw sense* in spending nearly £800 on parts to get it going again 😅

The Xsara Picasso has racked up a few thousand miles and hasn't put a foot wrong. It's definitely staying, and I'm pretty confident the Focus will also still be here come next year's update.

Some "nearly IN's" were 2x Rover 75's which I tried to save, but they got scrapped anyway. Ho hum :(

I'd like to try and buy something but there's just nothing quite taking my fancy at the moment, not really sure what I want a 3rd car to be... Definitely a toy, because I've already got 2x sensible cars.. which I'm very happy with

So I started the year with a 2006 Audi A4 Avant Quattro

FB_IMG_1701901218399.jpg.f3bc088451f07b7f99045aec61650fbc.jpg

And a 1991 Peugeot 205 GL which is now owned by @2110

FB_IMG_1701901277968.thumb.jpg.4795612e81cf34399ba8c79a89252bd4.jpg

When the Audi got scrapped I purchased a 2003 Peugeot Partner with 208k on the clock. This ended up getting roffledFB_IMG_1701901228034.thumb.jpg.a77a87b11727c92518330b9f5c00b48b.jpg

With the 205 gone I fancied another old car so I went out a bought a 1984 Trabant 601 which is now owned by @ZelandethFB_IMG_1701901246200.thumb.jpg.1d9d15015c036b53043678347f125fbb.jpg

The Partner went so I bought @Weird Car's Mini Cooper S. I absolutely loved this car unfortunately my wallet didn't so I ended up selling it to a work mate who is still enjoying it now FB_IMG_1701901321874.thumb.jpg.307a4f257c2b43798171a4bd26372ba0.jpg

After the Mini I thought I'd mature a tad a buy a 1997 Suzuki Baleno GLX. I got the clutch replaced and did over 3 or 4k in just a few months. This was the car I took to the FoD for the first time FB_IMG_1692899330367.thumb.jpg.14ef48ff853aa9a9b6e811d9077cbcbc.jpg

Then out of nowhere I was offered a Seat Ibiza for £250. I'm not sure why I did it. I owned it for the best part of a few days. IMG_20230905_150252.thumb.jpg.3c635df6e7278c089121bbaa5f4135ba.jpg

This is when I needed a bigger car due to my Son getting a little bigger so I went out a swapped the Suzuki for a 1992 Rover 820 from @SkcatFB_IMG_1697459190707.thumb.jpg.96a42e2fec0d16d04e46bf51bcf3f96d.jpg

The Rover wasn't too bad of a motor to be honest! It had a few issues but all round it got the job done. It had to go though due to my nipper needing a bigger car seat and Rover not being able to have it in it. So my father gifted me a 2010 Renault Clio EstateIMG_20231129_194558.thumb.jpg.9007a4bcb89d6ddb1a23be8e78852dc1.jpg

This is the current family wagon and it is proving to be very economical and nice to drive. It has the 1.4 Hdi in it so £20 will get you a fair few miles.IMG_20231205_144610.thumb.jpg.556bb08c411cf4d22e03607f05e10547.jpg

Now we get to the newest member of the fleet. A 1963 Rover P4 110. I've not had a proper look or drive in this yet. But it seems to be a lovely motor. It has a gorgeous sound to it with the 2.7 Straight 6. Can't wait for some adventures in it

Minus one.

The (in)famous brown P6 made its departure in June.

20230528_120408.thumb.jpg.c9569be02139324b309a8f8f67b5ef27.jpg

Nothing new in, although a few things have had me sorely tempted. I think a Japanese luxo-barge moment may be on the horizon for 2024, or I could end up with a Jag.

That leaves me with the old faithful Saab, which I have just serviced in preparation for further mileage-piling - currently at 172600. Fresh MOT last month thanks to a judicious application of electric sparkles to the exhaust by @Talbot to whom I owe lunch and a pint!

20230422_180604.thumb.jpg.e5da553f5be3a1a3da80297bfc7d9f6e.jpg20230608_162914.thumb.jpg.00671325a55d24a2afc512e66f522b5f.jpg

New job means maybe time to go back to a 2-car fleet next year? Time will tell.

Thank god for my camera roll or I’d have no idea what happened and when.

In:

IMG_9132.thumb.jpeg.0c9a8c3fc1228c41d9896553f441e39c.jpeg

The first new arrival was the BX Leader. Having visited a house two streets away from my house to inspect the car for the BX club, I ended up buying it. I fettled this up to the point it could pass an MOT, used it for a bit and realised that I probably wouldn’t be the person to bring it to full potential. More on that later.

IMG_9186.thumb.jpeg.ea94c36a1e510b5ea6de5be3e761e62b.jpeg

Second in was this beast, bought for scrap money with a fucked radiator and water pump. I had no space on the driveway (naturally) so I fixed it on the trailer at the side of the road I use as overflow. See my build thread for the full miserable experience. It has mostly been my partner’s car, and it is now at the point where I need to do stuff* to it and spend some money to make it nicer.

IMG_0134.thumb.jpeg.b9178ff50f5a379c7e957a3f69cf14af.jpeg

I picked this up from @calebaaront with a view to getting it back on the road. It had an overheating issue which I’ve fixed, a blowing down pipe which I’ve replaced, and I now need to cut loads out of the offside sill and weld in less rusty metal. I keep saying it’ll be done soon, but I’m only lying to myself. But it will be done soon.

IMG_1477.thumb.jpeg.37349698c83a5b06a9763fd4646aa14a.jpeg

The Disco of Doom (tm). As I repeatedly drone on about, this belonged to my mate who died just over a year ago now. His son was left with this, but (sensibly) didn’t want to run it. It sat for months and developed some exciting faults, and so a deal was struck. It didn’t fit on the trailer so it got driven home whilst the electronics went mental. Cleaning the TCCM and connectors fixed that, and since then it’s just been a Land Rover. I use this mostly as my daily now.

IMG_2442.thumb.jpeg.730d76feda80cd4f00983e83d6edbe83.jpeg

@Stinkwheel is an enabler and offered this XM up for free just before I went on my holidays. This obviously had to come for a ride on the trailer, and is what I’m mostly focussing on getting back on the road currently.

fcf74d44-3093-4879-aab6-5bd3db0ef810.thumb.jpeg.d90cd44f3b4bf139b2e9c2ef3eec6b1d.jpeg

I bought this LS430 in a deal with @rob88h. I then drove it across Europe a couple of days later, as this made sense at the time. It did the job admirably besides from me having to replace the rear discs and pads in Bratislava. It’s not a holiday without working on the car though, so this was fine. Since then it’s had a replacement air strut, and the starter has gotten lazy so I need to swap that out. I absolutely love it though, but sadly my partner loves it more and this became her daily after she briefly borrowed it.

I got the Pontiac Trans Sport in a swap with @Weird Car in what will possibly my last vehicular transaction of the year. This car has probably made the biggest impression on me out of everything I’ve taken in to date, I’m besotted with it. Sadly my love is unrequited and it has shit out its water pump - that’ll be a job for next year now.

Fostered:

I was graced by the presence of the Xantia of Not Many Shiters during the summer, after I collected it from Brighton for @purplebargeken. A combination of French engineering and my local MOT station tried to break my morale, but luckily that died ages ago and so I got the car up to a testable standard. It went through MOT eventually and I waved it off. It’s now lived with a number of shiters, in what could be a threat to its title.

The Leader, now MOT’d and in use, went to live with @rob88h. He’s made great progress with it, and I’m glad to see it has found a great home with the bonus of it being on the forum still.

The Clio, which is possibly the one car I should have kept and used, wasn’t doing much for me anymore and wasn’t used by my mrs. It went in a swap with @Weird Car for the Pontiac, and is hopefully being a useful an car.

Crashed:

The Insight had a bad year. I shunted a Hyundai in it, and it’s now sitting in the field behind the stables waiting for some love.

Non movers (some quite literally):

Do we have to?

Go on then…

Most of these are sat appreciating* behind the stables.

The Bottom Line:

I make that 22. I desperately want to get that number down, but everything keeps breaking and I only really want to send stuff out in a useable condition. I’m also a fucking idiot and I keep getting more cars.

How many work? Enough that we can normally find car to use. Up until December it was about 6, which seems to be the natural balance of things. In true winter form however, everything has now broken at once and I’m spending my evenings in the dark and the cold wondering if I should’ve chosen jigsaw puzzles or making ships in a bottle as a hobby.
