Right... I know some of you are holding boxes for me.

Also possibly:

 @155V6

@flat4alfa

@Datsuncog - I think!

I may have forgotten someone, or I may have already claimed the goods; if so then please accept my apologies.

So if you are holding a box for me, my birthday is coming up (4 weeks).  I'll be able to dismiss any deliveries as unexpected* birthday presents.  Let me know what I owe you and I'll hide cash in a birthday* card ;)  The less The Boss knows, the better, right?  I'll get a load of earache when the goods arrive but that's my problem.

I was going to use the base model steel wheels from the hatchback car for this, but I really do love those vented hub caps. I do have some, but they’re the Ghia trims with three vents not two. What do you think?

Leftovers!

I like those triple vents.

Also, what type alloy are these?

image.thumb.jpg.af7ffee540dd0644a15e0bbce7b13696.jpg

These are from the estate originally but not really suitable for a low spec estate. I think they are Sierra Ghia wheels but what else used them?

I’m not sure we got that style alloy over here then!?

I know the South American Fords were a bit different in their production run to ours. The Sierra mk1 was built some time after ours became the mk2. And the Escorts were similar, their mk4 Escort went on longer than ours.

image.thumb.jpg.7c6a77cb8a04a0b132d99367ebf483b1.jpg

Maybe they had their own items like alloys and bits of trim we didn’t get? I certainly can’t recall that style alloy here.

@bunglebus what is this fabulous colour?

PXL_20240314_112130249.jpg

Talking of colour, I've used BLMC Tara Green on my Corgi Camaro and rather strangely it was on the shelf in the local Halfords! The Firebird is Ford Vision Blue

IMG_9042.thumb.JPG.f31df4baf1ba56791d008e211ee0ef2b.JPG

I'll also be able to use Tara Green when I find another Dinky Mini Clubman to model the one I owned. If anyone has one I could have plz PM me.

I stripped off a Bburago 900 Turbo the other day, I think it really captures the look well, but the casting had this strange lump on the rear quarter

IMG_9040.thumb.JPG.43d10c0718d7c40d29b596aea835b1cf.JPG

and another on the bonnet, neither showed before hand as it was covered in race decals

I have finally finished the black 1275GT model of the one I owned. I spent ages making the number plates in the correct Serck font.

I was in two minds about putting the nudge bars on it as it kind of tips it from a toy into a "scale model" which isn't what I want

IMG_9045.thumb.JPG.4d11dcd44a6de98976ba571096c90b91.JPG

I suppose Dinky could have put details like that on and made it more robust than I can

I didn't cut the sunroof out, it's a sticker a bit like some model Volvos (Kingsize?) have.

I think the best thing about the whole thing is the 1275Gt stripes on the side!

I didn't try to replicate the wheels, just refinished the original Dinky ones

Sorry, I was meaning the Sierra alloy wheels on the last page.
The Escort in my pic, has the standard sports alloys our ones got, but I posted it referring to production dates. In Europe our Escort was at the mk5 by 1992. In South America they were still making the mk4 like that model.

Love the Mini btw! Nowt wrong with a scale model!
The two Camaro’s look superb too, great colour choices.

That Saab looks odd with those lumps. It doesn’t look like zinc pest or corrosion though, more like a slight casting flaw? File it down and ignore it. I found some similar marks on a few of my newer 1:43’s.

I used Hycote Bermuda Blue not long ago, was surprised to find that on the shelf but it was perfect for what I needed.

It's surprising what old colours Halfords still sell. When I popped into one after Christmas they had a few of the Ford "Signal" colours available, in new style tins too not the £3 clearance ones that I usually get for models.

Halfords still have it, at least here in Barrow.  I know, there's one on my shelf waiting for me to find a Vanguards Granada to use it on!

I just got off the phone with Harry Callaghan and he said he couldn’t remember if it was six shots or only five. So wasn’t much help. Then went into a rant about it being mid-afternoon in SF and not to call again as someone had put ketchup on his Hot Dog.

Purchased from The Range. Quite good stuff, nozzle is one you can rotate for a horizontal or vertical fan (neither of which is entirely helpful for small cars!) but you cannot go by the can colour for actual finish, as shown by the results on my RS2000 too

Lesney chose not to add any detail to the lights or grille etc on these so I've followed suit, much as I'd like to. This is probably the easiest resto I've done, as I left all the casting lines and other defects exactly as they were when it was made, there's even a weird bump in the boot lid - left it there. Paint came off the glass etc pretty easily so it just needed a fine sand and polish up.

I'm sure the colour's not 100% accurate but there seem to be shades from bright pink to dark purple shown in images I can find online

Tat box arrival, thanks to @bunglebus

First off, filling in a couple more Corgi 1/36 gaps, for the ones I missed out on as a kid. This SD1 is in nice, tidy, slightly patinated condition, Just how I like them, although I have touched up the bumpers.

IMG_20240317_125157.jpg.5d8bea5b9f34fdc1b2c081404af92fb9.jpg

It's a nice, weighty slab of a thing, a reminder of how getting one of these Corgis as a kid was quite an occasion for me.

IMG_20240317_125211.jpg.53cdd3105f9fc56fe8bd9af5e8f4248f.jpg

Used to love an opening tailgate and tipping parcel shelf.

IMG_20240317_125241.jpg.59c14c8da3df670a747ffcb269186855.jpg

And an opening bonnet. Pretty good engine detail for the time.

IMG_20240317_125434.jpg.7307e9f8d06503ed7a7a8840267b214b.jpg

In the same category was this Fiat X1/9. Again, it's survived in pretty good nick, including the paper sticker on the frunk.

IMG_20240317_125533.jpg.737a2ea6cef2c1660330693744f01150.jpg

Pretty sure this edition was part of a gift set with a powerboat in Carlsberg livery (Alcohol advertising on kids toys, those were the days, eh?)

IMG_20240317_125550.jpg.215f84c770d36c21a186c602695a593b.jpg

Nice engine detail, again.

IMG_20240317_125733.jpg.c47fd85cb8a8986537373d259451247c.jpg

Smaller stuff now. I went through a bit of a late phase of buying Matchbox again around about 1986-87, it was the appearance of "realistic" subjects like the Astra GTE and Escort cabrio that did it. I did like the Land Rover Ninety, but couldn't find it in the shops at the time. Ive always liked the realistic colour schemes it came on, and the County-style side graphics.

IMG_20240317_125752.jpg.c02349f1fc0f320deca7776c69c9df80.jpg

IMG_20240317_125924.jpg.c618fe4f6a28c892879888b74b71c5cd.jpg

Another favourite of mine in '86 was the MK3 Transit, I had quite a few of those in different liveries. But I've never had the Smiley version.

IMG_20240317_125943.jpg.a9880438b2ea49244563675b6915a3e2.jpg

Not sure whether this was the old MK3 casting, tarted up or a whole new one. Obviously the base is different, the wheel arches seem to be a slightly different shape, and the tailgate has the  later font on the Transit badge,

IMG_20240317_125855.jpg.4bd948d4b4acc2ee50409423bf1fa45a.jpg

Interior seems to be the same casting though.

Some recent Hot Wheels too.

Yet another Proton, and I was wondering whether I would even get one...

And at long last I have a green Escort,

IMG_20240317_130305.jpg.8f4fa079f6b247fd5dedab9d6d54c082.jpg

While I like the race graphics on the white and red versions, I think I prefer this single colour version, as it looks more like a road car, and a bit like the Java green the real RS was offered in. Nice to see matching wheels on this one too...

IMG_20240317_130409.jpg.0a96f38a35488cf93ea992a0b0c3fd0a.jpg

IMG_20240317_130353.jpg.c295c7788f6fb6d8eaa7a39c93ba0439.jpg

IMG_20240317_130426.jpg.ddb31250faea339674d655d1eac5e084.jpg

Another one I've failed to find, Smyths only have the ones left out of this collection that nobody wants, as usual.

IMG_20240317_130523.jpg.b2e8e9d2bd88f64986f12a9e0facb7e6.jpg

Obviously a standard Jetta/Vento would have been nice, but I'll take this one.

IMG_20240317_130442.jpg.63ecf612667ed746a54b36b5c8dce936.jpg

I am tempted to try and remove the tampos on it, though and just have it as a plain, white kitted car. Very Max Power...

Seeing the amount of variations of colour on these I think Lesney had problems matching it themselves. When you look it's as though no two batches were the same. I've had two in the past as it was one of my favourites when about 8 years old. One was quite a nice deep purple, the other was more of a mauve. The deeper the purple the better for me, and when ever I see a GTO being done on one of those US Hot Rod shows I always end up dreaming of having a real life replica of that Matchbox with Cragar 5 Spokes and a deep red leather interior.

Nice resto by the way.

Glue on the Sierra estate has cured. I’ll leave it another day before starting to mess with it though. Last thing I want is snap the nose off!

IMG_4163.jpeg.c7baade335e61cecf17cd771a99e98fb.jpeg

Did some spraying while I was in the shed!
Bond partwork first gen Dodge RAM pickup. These come in white originally so I stripped this one, primed, wet flatted and now paint.
The plastic grill unit is painted white on the 007 version but I’ll do mine in chrome with the Molotow pen after.
Weirdly, the cab back is a separate piece, done in plastic rather than part of the metal casting, so I’ll mask that up (window!) later and spray it while the truck itself dries.

IMG_4164.jpeg.835b41fa4078fecd6204468e1af92f17.jpeg

IMG_4161.jpeg.79eb06059368f2565c92cbdfb1ec1fa9.jpeg

Did some wheel swaps.
Capri 2.8i lost its pepperpots to the Cortina mk4 (beige car). So I took a set of steel dartboard style wheels from a Cortina mk5 and used them on the Capri. This Capri will eventually become a low spec car in different colour.
Then the Cortina mk5 received the Ghia alloys that came off the mk4. The chrome finish is a bit crap so I’ll paint them silver. Ill repaint the mk5 at some point too.

Dinky Volvo estate has been sat around while I dithered over what wheels to use on it.
This one came with a set of very old spun style wheels that didn’t really suit it, after someone painted it red.
I’ve finally found some wheels for it I’m happy with!
Dinky Transit wheels leftover from a spares van. Correct 5 stud hubs too! Just need some tyres for it.

I think I have kind of sussed what the main problem with the awful look is. So things have been ordered and a new small project will be happening when they have arrived and I have also been to the opticians to get my eyes checked and new spec made.

I've got quite a few new arrivals here that I've been going through on this damp Sunday afternoon

My boss found this Moving Parts 911 somewhere in Europe

PXL_20240317_1414347332.jpg.c14987876e1c28eb30f969736de1db6d.jpg

Sticking with air cooled Volkswagens (!), I spotted this Majorette buggy at the Volksworld Show, don't know if the box is the original but I've never seen one of these with a clear base and roof

I also picked up this boxed Sand Digger, he had four or five others, but I chose unpunched box but already open so I didn't feel guilty taking it out for pics!

This one came from the recent DTCM fire sale and is very nice, it has already replaced the one I had in my display cabinet

Another VoWoSho find, a copy of the Hot Wheels buggy. Got one a while back but this one's nicer

Last show find is this absolutely lovely Playart bus. Not an easy find in the UK, this and the Zylmex bay window have been on my hit list for ages

A rather large box was handed over to me recently containing the things I'd managed to dibs from @danthecapriman. I'm not going to post them all but here are a few of the more unusual or interesting ones

I do really like the various Dinky Transits, this MK2 is similar to one I already have, but has the grille etc painted black rather than silver, and has a rather unlikely red interior rather than the sensible grey of its twin

PXL_20240317_140409870.jpg.ceaef201194e15504e3336f091d45ac3.jpgPXL_20240317_140435513.jpg.b9e7b147c6eec9334a389285c8d55851.jpg

Earlier, smaller MK is yet another version I'd not previously got my mits on. There are so many!

This one is definitely not a toy I've laid eyes on in person until now. Dinky Impala is a hefty beast. There's a hole in the boot floor as if a spare tyre or some luggage was once inside

Another Dinky that's never come my way before is this lovely Opel Commodore, even the quarterlights atop the doors have survived. Don't think the Whizzwheels really suit it though

I was keen to get the smaller Corgi Fiat 1800 after acquiring the larger 2100 a while back

Spot on Zephyr was below market value and came with new shiny bits

Matchbox Case Tractor has definitely been enjoyed, having plenty of mud embedded in its gubbins. However it's somehow retained its roof and Taylor Woodrow stickers

Much as the rear arch treatment on the Speed Kings Cougar bugs me, I'm very impressed with how well this one has survived

90s era Matchbox can be a bit hit and miss, but I like the GTO

Husky skip lorry somehow managed to retain its skip for all these years

Variation of the Corgi 740 I'd not previously found

PXL_20240317_131527092.jpg.6ef50fbd207ed38527581e0d3b41c0b6.jpg

Corgi must have modelled this on a real vehicle surely?

PXL_20240317_131445626.jpg.8690aaa338adf13e6ec3b49bf595c6a2.jpg

Not worked out who in Hong Kong made this Chevrolet van

PXL_20240317_131348323.jpg.f305989aa2793645fe8a4dfa763edc5f.jpg

I thought this bus was a Playart but it's not marked as such

Finally, Corgi Heinkel has gone in the customise/restore pile - spare pink body that came with it gives me ideas!
