Shite in Miniature II

Split_Pin

Recommended Posts

My last minishite of the year - a 1:24 scale Back to The Future DeLorean by Jada. It's the Part II version with a 'food blender' Mr. Fusion.

Got given it last Christmas - obligatory for a DeLorean owner.

Jada do all three versions. I've got the first version somewhere.

Appropriately, it lives atop of my flux capacitor next to my computer.

Has anyone heard of Motormax Fresh Cherries? They were a range of 1:87 scale diecast American cars and modeled some absolute prime US domestic chod. This was around 2010. I got the Escort and MK1 Tempo. I think they made a few in 1:25 scale as well such as the Dodge Omni and Plymoith Reliant.

Must admit, I do like the US versions of their European models. The US Escort looks much better and more interesting than the one we had. Although maybe that’s just because the US one is so much less familiar and therefore something different!?
I think the interior’s were far far better than what we got too. Much more range of colours and styles available, we seemed to be dull and boring in Europe as always and stuck with usually miserable grey! Americans seemed to want to hold onto the vibrant colour choices of the 60’s and 70’s for much longer than we did. Even in the 90’s you could still get cars with bright red, blue or green, even brown and beige interior. It seemed far more restrained and restricted in Europe and Asian cars to dull muted grey’s.

I’ve seen those. Weren’t they called Ford Laser or something? I’m sure there was a Ford badged Mazda 121 too.

The Mazda 121 was badged engineered into the Ford Festivia to replace the Fiesta in the USA.  The 626 was turned into the Telstar for the Antipodean markets rather than set up a Sierra assembly line in Australia.

I’ve seen those! There’s some 1:64 and 1:43 size ones too. They don’t seem very common over here though.

Ive got a 1:64 Motormax AMC Gremlin, which is a really lovely little model!

Thread drift, but I have 2 German cars with a beige/brown combo interior - one built in 2015, one in 2019! I will say I’m not likely to pick beige carpet in an estate again 😉

My Volvo has beige carpet. It’s a bloody nightmare to keep clean! Literally every single spec of dirt shows up on it. Looks cool though so I’ll forgive it.

TOY FAIR ALERT!

If any of you guys are going to fairs, bootsales, charity shops over the coming months, please look out for any 50s/60s Corgi and Dinky cars, in scrap boxes and obviously at scrap prices!  I've had an idea for a project (in fact two ideas, another one's just come to me....) and while I have some suitable, I'm going to need more.

I had a 944 about 20 years ago. It had what they call Linen Logo cloth seats and matching pale beige carpet. Never again have I had a pale seated or carpeted car. New blue of black jeans would cause problem with the seats, and even the merest hint of dirt on your footwear would mean a visit to the valeters for an interior wet vaccing.

Love that maroon Minor. Might keep an eye out for that one.

The car I’m waiting to be released though is that new tooling Jag XJ6/12. I wonder when that one comes out?

More to point, will it arrive in U.K. or will Mattel send 500,000 Airport Baggage Tugs or a shit load more of the 70th Anniversary stuff that no fucker wants!

I used to look at a lot of early Mk3 Mondeos with the cream interior, usually on the higher spec ones, looked superb but as you point out completely incompatible with normal life, inevitably a coffee stain on the front seat would be impossible to remove.

The latest decal project is now finished.

Last big stripe on. I got the gap between the stripes this time. Lesson learned (again), start the decals from the centre and work your way out.

DSCF1107.thumb.JPG.d08c527f89e58d9c0ea9bf6bdcce8849.JPG

Only three more decals to go.

DSCF1108.thumb.JPG.54784f54dfc41f7cf3e45d4259eba0f9.JPG

All decals on, just the mirrors to do.

DSCF1109.thumb.JPG.7a7e77aa95774c57bb3606c8ec7ed5fe.JPG

To do that I pushed some holes in the decals and did a dry fit check. The mirrors had square pegs and were sided to achieve the correct angle. To stick them I dipped a cocktail stick in to my chosen pot of glue and put the glue in the hole, then pushed the mirrors home.

I could have super detailed the model by painting the mirrors black, doing the front opening red and touching in the rear lights, but I have not done this to keep. I'll leave it up to the new owner if they want to go down that route as this will be auctioned off soon on that famous web site.

I've no idea if anyone else does this to over come the problem of opening model boxes. You know the one with the inner and outer flaps that have small cuts on the outer flaps so they stay shut.

Well I get my little screw driver and place it inside the outer flap...

DSCF1110.thumb.JPG.80b34a0d7fa381a83a7a5f4d1163f5ae.JPG

and pull. So no more torn or creased flaps.

DSCF1112.thumb.JPG.b8b555a8f1cf039da90c8d89142a1379.JPG

No doubt someone will think of a smutty innuendo.

The model title is 1977 Jaguar XJ6C

Its in 2024 mix 3 case, along with ‘64 Lincoln Continental black and Morris Minor green

Already seen on shelves in Australia

Which probably means personal import only until B&M/Lidl/Aldi  Londis/Spar bulk clearout found on UK racks in 2026 and by that time another colourway is out there to worry about too

Yes, always; I always have the thought for resale pristineness

Then promptly drop it on the floor clumsily and tread on the blighter as part of trying to pick it up in panic.  Twat.

I use the blunt side of a Stanley blade, so far so good getting the Corgi Model Club ones open without damage

Yeah, brown German cars with beige interiors, I had four...

Still twitch when I think how much effort this took to keep clean, especially as I drove this to work and back every day. Wasn't bad for a 20 year old daily though.

017vu.jpg.e511db937ece30f4c881f5d8bff7c29c.jpg

At least the next one had leather, so was easier to look after,016bv.jpg.9ab810c11f6a8ad0535cdef2bd3f4cd9.jpg

And in a weird set of sequencing, the following two 190s would have the same Nutria brown/Mushroom cloth and Bornite/Mushroom leather combos.

Nice to hear about the forthcoming Matchbox releases. I'll look forward to seeing them on here in 2024  while my local outlets are still stocking the case with the green Ranchero, AMC Eagle, red 4 Runner....

1959 Cadillac Series 62 in 1:64 by M2. It's my first M2 model, so something new for the New Year!

It comes on a display stand with acrylic case which makes it feel a bit special.

IMG_1569.JPG.c472f1a92d71e1b5d1c18a99656a5d47.JPG

Opening doors and bonnet with no unrealistic gaps or unaligned panels.

IMG_1570.JPG.215e0af70ba29d2c1ba08084e409a089.JPG

I was also pleased to see slot and screw construction which made disassembly easy.

IMG_1571.JPG.a0fbd46db5af6e55310985688839c60d.JPG

My only complaint is lumpy rolling caused by deformed tyres and poorly finished wheels.

Still, while Matchbox supply has gone back down the shitpan around here, I did strike a small amount of Hot Wheels '24 gold at the local small Asda.. Highlight was this,

IMG_20240101_142243.thumb.jpg.66ed43aff43e93896149ed90d6a8a1a2.jpg

Yeah I know the whole world seems to have got one of these now, but I still had that small squeal of delight when I found it!

IMG_20240101_142521.thumb.jpg.a16c65bad350034cca31c41ae2f5486c.jpg

There have been some absolutely cracking designs from Hot Wheels of late, but this has to be my favourite, just because of the unlikeliness of the subject. When I first heard they were doing a Proton I honestly thought it was a wind-up... A guy I worked with on the taxis years ago had a Proton saloon (J reg!) just like this one in red.

IMG_20240101_142348.thumb.jpg.4c8aa56b4f31e459f5ede0a5208692dc.jpg

Shame about the bare rear treatment. I think I'd have traded the side graphics for some tail light detail.

IMG_20240101_142412.thumb.jpg.9e6ef57dcd9e5df963db1edcf7577f90.jpg

Nice work on the grille badge though.

IMG_20240101_141814.thumb.jpg.9db6b35564f4d2ded7bc0bd4041fc041.jpg

Another one I was pleased to find, if a bit gaudy. Sadly the card is absolutely mullered but still grabbed it as I don't know if I'll ever find another. Might have to be set free then...

IMG_20240101_142043.thumb.jpg.96f799f108d3daf1f412724c8f43a9ab.jpg

Detailing is better on this one, front and rear,

IMG_20240101_142030.thumb.jpg.3ebd87b1efbbed8af81e2b13e3d63c76.jpg

Even the carbon fibre on the bonnet is replicated.

Another one I was hoping to get, I like the period VW service livery. (more or less translates as "VW customer service: gets there quickly" according to my half-German wife)

IMG_20240101_140921.thumb.jpg.9d2a49d75dcbe3e340a92e7bb8043c92.jpg

I was pleased to get this one as the Premiums in there were shocking. All the Boulevards, Speed Machines etc that nobody wants and at least a dozen of those silly aerocar things that are only really any cop as wheel donors. This though was right at the back of one of the pegs.

IMG_20240101_141029.thumb.jpg.a8dd902ebc51fe0b5b760c580029c6f4.jpg

It's a lovely wee thing. It's not often I'll shell out for a premium, but I couldn't leave this one.

Good tip. On the Vanguards outer boxes, I use one of the kids' plastic school rulers down the flap. Works a treat.

Ford had done the world car thing a decade earlier with the Mk3 Escort. Those were mostly the same car world wide, but US versions were very Americanised.

Just remembered something, from 25 years ago, and I've slept since then...

I was once picked up by a friend, at JFK airport, by one those...

Amongst all the yellow cab Caprices and Chrysler LHS hotel cars, one of these (diminutive) US Escorts pulled into the bay.

I do remember it being all black with spoiler, so likely it was a SS or GT?  That might sound impressive, but it wasn't as much as the daft 'automatic seat belt on a rail' mechanism.  That was to be experienced...
