Another message said: "Hallo, verkaufen Sie den Audi und wie viel?", which Google translate says "Hello can you see your Audi and how old it is".

🤷‍♂️

He is asking if you are selling the Audi and how much?

I don't blame him, add me to the growing waiting list above.  Ideal for my 60 mile daily commute.

Four randomz plz, 1 for each ring of success.

Seems there is a button on the dash to turn off the system temporarily.

I need to get that code reader that Kiltox got as I know it talks to the reverse sensors. Likely one or more has died from all the heavy rain we've had.

All part of the game.

Give this a go.

With the handbrake on, put it into reverse then go to each sensor and listen out for a static noise. You’ll have to put your ear close to them. If there isn’t any sound then that’s usually the dead one. I did this quite successfully on a mates Audi recently and diagnosed 2 failed ones. Replaced both and all was well again.

You can also use your phone's microphone to do this by recording a video, placing the microphone to each sensor for a few seconds and then reviewing the footage back!

The parking sensors have dried out now and are working fine. What I don't understand (and this exact same scenario happened with the alarm sensor on the Rover 75's slam panel) is how I can wash my cars with a hose and sponge and nothing is affected but heavy rain seems to find its way into electrical components?

Anyway, this (now correct) code reader is great for the money and its quite simple to use. I was able to work out how to interrogate all the modules after a few minutes.

Here are the parking sensors working when reverse gear is engaged. I make no apologies for bare legs in the shot, long trousers get put away mid March regardless of the weather.

You can see that it detects the A4 correctly.

All good!

The parking brake is a bit flaky though. As soon as I interrogated it, the message appeared on the dash.

Here are the results  with the brake applied (pictures were the right way up on my phone 🤔🤷‍♂️)

..and the pads look fine to me. It gave a % worn elsewhere and I can't remember the exact figure but it wasn't especially concerning.

The brake itself works perfectly so there's currently nothing I'll be doing anything about for the time being but I'm very delighted with the code reader 👍

I had that code reader too, I think it’s just a feature* of it that it brings up a brake error when you interrogate the parking brake module.

Any issue with the parking brake will be related to the NS parking brake motor which is a really cheap nasty pattern part which didn’t fit very well.

  • 2 weeks later...

I know Mannol is a perfectly fine oil, but because the chains are at the back of this engine and replacement is not really a viable option on a car of this value, I wanted to be super careful with my choice of oil.

20240405_155223.jpg.77eafd5cdae4226f0f7b2619f974a370.jpg

VW spec 507 is low ash so only really important over a longer term if the car had a DPF, which this one does not. So I picked a (slightly cheaper) fully synthetic 5w30 quality oil from Fuchs which I know is a 'known' brand althought not 507 spec. So out came the Mannol and in went 8 litres of Fuchs plus a new filter. I guess the engine has had a flush with clean cheap oil for a few hundred miles. Anyway it's given me peace of mind.

After my holiday I am still running a lot of errands for my mum in connection with stuff to do with my dad and tonight I tried the dynamic setting on the suspension which only comes with Sport models. Not expecting much, the difference is incredible. It really stiffens the car up and transforms the driving experience, giving confidence in the corners (it feels like it's going to fall over in comfort mode on twisty roads). I then used lift mode to go over the 327 speed humps on the road up to my mum's house.

I made a short video of the car and its suspension moving up and down. In the clip it's not that noticeable but in person the car goes from an almost Allroad ride height into something quite sporty!

I normally make a mess when polishing dark coloured cars so I just went for Wax only this time around. I used Fuso 99 Soft. It came up very nicely.

The B and C pillar finishers were also flat so I did polish those. They came up well.

It should be criminal that a car looking this good can be bought for under 2 grand. Absolute mega value.

I don't think I've tried the suspension settings. Since automatic usually seems to do a good enough job I never felt inclined to.

Much the same for me. Left the suspension in auto all the time, but did occasionally put the gearbox in sport mode.

It’s done well for oil changes, it had one 7-8 months ago with me. Absolute doddle to do.

I haven't tried Sport mode in the gearbox yet, but then I've had my 75 for 4 years and not tried Sport mode on it . However the latter seems ridiculous on a diesel auto 4 cylinder car with an 'older' image 😂

I replaced the battery in my key a few weeks ago. Today the car would not recognise the key, it no longer locks/unlocks and I have to put the key in the ignition to start it (which sometimes does not work either) I'm also getting a message saying the key battery is low. So I replaced with the correct CR2032, Energiser brand with absolutely no difference at all. The key is stone dead with no green flashes when a button is pressed.

I checked the owners manual but couldn't see a key reset procedure. I'm very patient with old cars and expect problems but this one's frustrating as I can't really chance driving anywhere at the moment. I was in a garage that my relationship did not end well with (but my mum still wants to use them) and I could not get the car to start at all as nothing was happening even when turning the key in the ignition. Very embarrassing.

Hopefully I'll find a solution soon!

If you get stuck with a dead key battery, there's a keyhole hidden under the driver's door handle.  You can open it then, but the alarm will go off unless and until you get the key in the ignition.

You may know this... Please ignore if so!  Great thread, how have I missed it?

EDIT... Just saw your FB post, so it's not sounding like a battery problem.  They do seem knowledgeable on there though, hope you get it sorted 🤞

We must have the same colour combo I think...

IMG_20210626_190159_129.jpg.9f3fd45fe3e86f447783fccaadaecdfe.jpg

I think it's called Aqua Blue Pearl, and the inside is Platinum.  Looks cream in most lights but actually grey...

Also, when I scan the car using VCDS it causes the fault and alarms to go off, it does disappear when I close that controller though.  Maybe the 'turn it off again bit' is missing on your scanner?

If you're ever anywhere near Moray let me know if you want a go with it 👍

If it's just the remote part you should be able to code in a used replacement with VCDS, just make sure you get a matching part number.

One thing you could try is to hold the unlock button for a few seconds with the key in the ignition and ignition on, but if the key is actually dead this won't work.

Bouyed by this successful fix I gave it a wash and discovered that the OSR rear brake caliper is pissing fluid.

New one seems to just be £94 and comes with a motor too. My code reader does the caliper windback as well so not so bad.

I'll just have to use the Saab for a bit until it arrives!
