Mine was the same as this, but a darker maroon colour -

And a sidecar. Which was fitted on the left, where, you will notice the kick start is. Not only was the kickback fierce if the piston wasn't in the correct position you got your foot caught amongst the sidecar mountings. Spraying some quick start down the air inlet helped the starting.

The side car looked like this -

image.png.19b1a4e9abe524310e35b0b3e9c18a9c.png

The front section slide smoothly open, you climbed in and slid it shut and locked it. There was also an adjustable, angled,  footrest. The seat back folded forward to reveal quite a large boot, in which I stored a bag of sand to keep the wheel down on corners. There was a waterproof cover that press studded on. The one above is missing it's perspex screen.

A Voskhod 2. These were imported into the UK by Cossack/Neval, they were made in a factory in the industrial city of Kovrov not far from Moscow.  Note the safety features - a helmet, rolled up sleeves and a life giving fag.

Phun phact - Voskhod = sunrise, they were named after the spaceships of the same name.

Years ago we used to have a field bike (a Honda PA50) which started to underperform. My mates uncle was 'into bikes' and 'he's got a bike, a powerful one' and  'he can mend anything' and 'he's coming around this afternoon'. So we took it around that afternoon. Even at the tender age of 14 I realised that the owner of the absolutely hanging Voskhod parked/abandoned outside my mates house was not going to perform miracles on the little Honda. He didn't.

Whilst pondering my sanity with the horror show that is the P6 - I dragged this out of the cellar drying room and charged the battery up....

IMG_20240126_212838.thumb.jpg.c44bb416e4f4d38d2ada34aefc6ba25f.jpg

Started up first time. Throttle twist grip repaired and it's running great.

GF not happy with the smell of 2 stroke throughout the downstairs though 🙄

Motorbiking kit can be tricky...

The lack of variation in glove sizes in particular has been a pain, because of my slightly odd sized hands. Despite living in Norfolk, I have 4 fingers and a thumb on each hand, and in the usual locations, but I do have broad hands and shortish fingers. So I have to buy big gloves and then the fingers are too long.

Last year, because the weather improved so suddenly at the end of February, I bought some summer gloves from Amazon because of quick delivery and they're OK, but not the best fit. They did me a year, but their cheapness is also showing in the wear. My winter gloves fit great off the shelf and are lovely though, so it is doable.

I've gone to every bike shop locally, and no summer weight leather gloves fit me properly. I bought some that were a really good fit on my hand and tight enough on the wrists, but they only fit reasonably on two fingers, the other three were like half an inch too long.

But... After telling the Mrs to whine on my behalf on Facebook (I don't do social meeja) we found a local craftsman who works with Leather who took them to bits and tailored them to fit perfectly. Like a glove, as it were.

For £24.

I'm really very happy about that.

Valleys extreme ?
Good event - been there a couple times to watch ( not man enough to race it but have done the 6hr dawn to dusk there )

Only thing that spoils it was dicks on e bikes / scooters and the unending smell of weed

Its a goodun for spectators. Loads of entries this year surpassed last years Dawn to Dusk. Ebikes are very popular amd a great way to get about the venue to be fair. There's a ban on suron type lecky motos though thats very hard to police. Ganja smoking is defo popular with a lot of the spectators though they tend to be a good bunch and love getting stuck in with the pulling people up hills.
Valleys light is a sportsman doable event within the weekend. Most entries of all the races run this weekend.

Home now am knackered but had a great weekend.

Have a clip of Mr Walker going harry flatters.

The OR came back the other day from a specialist (more of that soon) who's done some tweaking and fault rectifying (I think he said carb off, gaskets, jet changes etc) then a rolling road  'thing' with print out. It's gone from an R6 beating 1.94BHP to a rip-roaring, BSB Championship contending 4.40BHP.

The Chopper is probably still faster with my fat arse on it, but hoping to get out and about on the Suzuki and ideally go to a bike meet soon.

The second of the three that came back from the specialists. Being an import I think they were quite restricted, it'd seemed gutless and wouldn't ever really rev well save for the odd occasion. It broke down pretty much every trip  (inc. once where the front caliper seized on) and it just didn't pull. The walk of shame became a regular thing, so it had to be fixed as despite being a beautiful ornament, it was an ornament non-the-less.

YamahaRD50byriver11_02_2024.thumb.jpg.0d57701b7ae026ed264a53a339d18449.jpg

I can't remember everything they did, but it involved new gaskets, carb clean, re-jet and the restriction in the exhaust being removed. It then went from a frankly crap/unusable 2.46BHP to a rip-roaring 4.10. It sounds quite muted compared to the FS1, I'd imagine even a power* pipe wouldn't make much difference to the engine note, but it's also quite a bit smoother. I can only describe it as the FS1 being a Transit Di and the RD being the latest almost silent diesel engines they make now.

It took a bit to warm up, then came into life after a couple of miles or so. You have to wring every last drop of acceleration out of the thing,  third and fourth gears were quite entertaining, though the power band doesn't happen until 7,500RPM and lasts for about a grand before you're slotting it in the next cog up and trying to keep it moving. Top is very much like an FS1/FS1E, i.e a bit like turning the engine off most of the time, though a following wind/bit of down hill can keep it going.  It felt faster than the speedo indicated  at 50KM/H (=30MPH?) but will have to GPS it one day to see real time figures. The very fact it's mobile and actually usable is great.

(The 'L' plate is for aerodynamic use only)

I’ve just sold a yellow fizzy. I’d had it about 15 yrs & road it 200 yards the first day I got it to make sure the gears worked & then it sat in my Mums garage the rest of the time.
Did ok though, swapped it for a bike seat & a couple of bits to buy it (so it stood me about £200) sold for £4,500 😀

Nice to see one of these, I had a couple of TRX850's in the day, make sure you follow the correct procedure for checking the oil level (check whilst warm with the bike upright after being knocked off for 10 seconds iirc)

Never had one but always liked them. I never understood why they were never popular. Sound great with the 270° crank too. Well bought.

Such a good noise even with the baffles in. I'm going to have to take them out for a bit though.

I called at J&S in Nortwich today to buy vouchers for a gift.

While I was there I looked at the helmets and boots - my helmet is fifteen years  old and my boots even older. I have promised myself new boots and an arai / shoei helmet - my stuff is bargain basement/ used/ hand me downs.

Sadly they are really expensive and won't happen this year. I remarked to my wife that the price of kit is probably contributing to the shrinking numbers of motorcyclists.

I had an old shoei lid which I never felt comfy in and had horrendous wind noise no matter what I or any shops did .

I had always been a Shoei man and owned 3 or 4 now .
I bought a barely used HJC of FB for £70 and it’s so much better than the shoei . Quieter , lighter and fits perfectly .
Some of these “ premium “ brands are getting carried away with pricing and trading purely on the name .

I think kit is cheaper than ever. I have a full Oxford textile suit. It was around £100 for the full suit. As @twosmoke300 said as well. I had an Arai for years and have then just gone to a HJC IS17 and it's 5 star rated, super comfy with loads of features and sub £100 as well.

I have 2 sets of gloves some short cuff alpinestars which were around £40 but I have a more traditional cold weather pair which were £15.

Boots are going to be sub 100 as well.

If you shop around you can get a full kit for under £250 and it not be utter rubbish.
