As a present to myself for graduating university and starting my first proper job I've bought my first bike. Been really enjoying it, even if I have taken my first spill already.

Cool, welcome to a wonderful world. Once you get bitten it will never go away, you think it does but it doesn't. Ask me how I know!!

Seriously welcome and nice bike

Welcome and enjoy. Hope not to much damage done in the off. If you haven't before id recommend a little off road training. Its great for learning bike control and has enabled me to stay upright more times than i can recall on the road. Mostly just enjoy and put the miles in. 30 odd years down the line it still makes me smile every time i swing a leg over a bike.

Well done on all three!

Just keep your wits about you on the bike, take it easy, and you'll be fine.

Cheaper and waterproof tend not to be good bedfellows but if you can find anything using actual GoreTex you are in with a hope.

I'm currently using a pair of faux lace up Spada boots and they seem OK in a downpour but haven't tried them for hours. Best I ever had were Sidi black rain from years ago.

I’ve got a pair of Spada boots which sound like the ones you’re describing. During the 400 miles of heavy rain I rode through coming back from Holland they leaked like a sieve.
They do look pretty cool though 😎

Are you after that style for the style, or will you actually be using them for off road use?

I've got some Diora leather boots that are waterproof-ish.

For an hour in horrendous rain, they were fine but of course the waterproof membrane is beneath the leather which still needs drying.

I like them, because they work as normal shoes as well.

I didn't buy them from there, so can't recommend the site but I've no complaints over the boots - though they aren't enduro boots.

I need off road boots for when its Muddy. I use trials boots and they are fine but my main pair of trials boots I use for MX and trails have died so they need to be replaced by my spare pair so my thoughts were to replace those with a set of waterproof adventure boots. I need high legs though for peg slips.

Fucking wars...

TriumphSprint955ios.thumb.jpg.0bb17572d203a793ca8ac73ef929d9e4.jpg

It's got a Hayabusa front end (no idea) and was described as a non-runner.  A bit of work had been done (new chain, some fancy pistons in the calipers etc etc)  and there's  few handy spares with it. He showed me it turning over , and muttered something about not trusting E10 fuel, even though it is supposed to be ok on it. He said there was no fuel in it and reiterated it didn't run, so I got it in the van, brought it home and then decided it wouldn't do any harm to see what would happen if I lobbed a couple of quid's worth of E5 in. About the 5th go in on the starter it coughed a little, so a few more tries and it's only bleeding running again!

It's not 100%, but sounds well and went well down the back road. EML is on and it'll cut out if you don't give it enough revs when pulling away,  maybe a good run out will cure that?

Shirley the front end is a bit of a waste??? My sprint handled plenty well enough, albeit with my limited capability. Maybe it's for a better choice of tyre? Nice bikes though, if a tad heavy for my old bones.

It seems a bit lighter/easier to push than the Fireblade,  plus its a bit more user-friendly for someone old/fat.

Is the tank plastic on these? The tanks on my 955 Daytona and Street Triple had begun to swell a bit due to ethanol content in fuel.

Take the tank off and check the plastic pipes going to the IACV, they split and cause poor running, be careful of the fuel pipe connectors though.

Tuneecu and an elm327 dongle will allow you to read fault codes and even remap it if you want.

Nothing wrong with that front end to me, it will be miles better than standard.

Good buy, I have had multiple triumph triples.

Yep, tank is plastic. When I had my sprint I only used E5 from Esso as it never contained ethanol. However Esso have announced that their E5 will now contain up to 5% ethanol at all stations from this month. I have now resorted to buying specialist fuel for my GT185  at over £4 a litre! But as I only used about 1 tank this year with it I can just about cope with that.

Bit of door knocking has paid dividends. Been meaning to go for months and finally got round to it a few weeks ago. Thought it'd be some twenty quid Chinese shit thing, but having gone round today after the owner rang me again, turns out it's an Aprilia SR50.

Anyhow, I think it's stood for 4 years so wasn't holding out too much hope. Put a boost pack to it, pulled the pipe off the carb and kept turning it over to drain as much of the old fuel as possible. Didn't get the lot out, but it started flowing a bit clearer, so lobbed some new juice in, kicked it over a few times and it's running. Proper noisy with that pipe, but seems a good laugh.  The electric starter packed up pretty soon afterwards (guessing it's the relay thing) but goes off the kick.

Work used to buy my boots, a new pair every couple of years. Loved the Daytona EVO Sports GTX (because of the inner boot protection*) but even from new they leaked. You would think at £700 a pair they'd at least resist water resistant, not water attracting.

*Had two incidents with them. First when a car hit me sideways on, breaking the footpeg and gearlever clean off my CBR900. Second was when I dropped the work ZZR1200 on ice going down the slope into the work car park. Got pinned across the ankle by the bike, was there at least 5 minutes before some one saw me. No damage to foot/ankle in either incident.
