@DatsuncogIf you get a chance, I'd very much like the best yellow Aston if sensible money.

Will see what I can do - the one with most paint was also the undrilled original!

£5 asked for the Corgi cars today.

Yes please, but don't go just for that, it's only a wee fancy!

That's cool - I have to wander back over that way to pick the car up, so not a bother!

So then - what's all this?

Tat Friday, Club Class?

Well yes, in a way.

I'm bunking off work.

Alright, so I booked a day off through the proper channels - but it still feels kinda transgressive.

I spent much of yesterday busting my hump laying loft insulation and moving furniture around, and to be frank I don't much care to do that again today.

So I'm cuttin' loose and goin' wild.

In a library.

IMG_20230818_1123372.thumb.jpg.c94da0860791764da14592797ecdab20.jpg

Not just any library - Belfast's Linen Hall Library, established in 1788 and Ireland's oldest private library still in operation.

I've been a member for years, and I don't really use it as much as I ought to.

There's quite nice views out over the City Centre.

They also do a pretty good french toast.

So - what did I leave with?

While Mr. Cog is cataloging today's finds, I'll jump in with a few updates of my own.

Lone Star Taunus got a revamp and is the first custom to receive the lovely new wheels off the Hot Wheels Alfa.

My intention was to pretty much restore this and change the wheels, I had a can of lilac at the ready but it's just such a wrong colour for this car. Most of them seemed to be white or light blue, with the odd red etc so I went with Olympic Blue. Other than getting rid of the fairly bad casting lines I haven't modified it at all, so if someone really wanted to restore it they could

Probably a fiver on that too.

Will have a look shortly, sure.

If the green/white Astons are there still, I would like one for a fiver please.  Preferably the one with the decal still there even though the paint is more borked

Do already have a reasonably tidy yellow DB4, and plenty of the adapted early 007 ones in gold paint.  But never that green/white later effort with the jewel lenses

Aston Martin DB4 ; DB5 ; DB6 (Dinky) all met for a garden party.  When we had a summer.

This is where we're at, by the midway point...

IMG_20230818_1121052.thumb.jpg.a7d36211212fdf925e6b1077b9e68411.jpg

The big Maisto X-Type for @Split_Pin has already been seen, but as for the others...

IMG_20230818_0800512.thumb.jpg.07fa9f1399cc64ec0bbc459b62cd07f6.jpg

Dinky Supertoys Guy Snowplough is maybe a bit less common.

It's mostly complete, bar the rear tipper flap, and also needs a retaining pin to hold the 'hydraulic' ram which allows the snow blade to raise and remain in the upright position.

One of the four rivets that holds the blade onto the lifting mechanism has also failed, so it's a bit shoogly.

The glazing has dropped down inside the cab, but it seems to be intact otherwise.

Despite these shortcomings, it's a lovely big model.

My grabby-hands say yes, but my bank balance says 'pass it on'.

Available for the £10 paid.

EDIT: SOLD!!!

IMG_20230818_0800352.thumb.jpg.91224576b669f1cc3c39274c9809a495.jpg

Another Supertoys - this time the Bedford TK rubbish cart.

The paint and decals on this are irritatingly good, since there's a slight bend to the chassis behind the cab...

IMG_20230818_0808392.thumb.jpg.8947a09ad9bb642f81e35d9b0dddf8f9.jpg

...and the rear section mechanism seems to have had a bad time of it.

IMG_20230818_0803132.thumb.jpg.ff0c150fed4e1420bfe68cc5733f471e.jpg

But could be a worthwhile resto, or else swap the good bits from a more scuffed example?

Also available for the tenner paid.

This one's staying - for a while, anyway.

IMG_20230818_0803272.thumb.jpg.8596022d55f0f20602f61e35bce8f4f6.jpg

I don't normally do military stuff, but this is most lovely - the Corgi (Ford?) Quad Gun Tractor, complete with ammo trailer and field gun, is worth making an exception for.

I'll take better pics later, but this still has the plastic shells loaded into the ammo trailer!

Unreal.

IMG_20230818_1121122.thumb.jpg.1f912ba956ea4bd48790e92587321d36.jpg

The Corgi Ford Classic and Austin A40 just kinda appealed - as I have form for buying these Classics, and then selling them on.

So I might hold onto this one, as it's relatively clean and doesn't have busted A-pillars like the majority seem to.

The A40 is a repaint, and is missing its glazing so probably not worth the fiver paid, but - I kinda like it anyway.

Well then - Round 2 is upon us...

That's a peculiar choice of livery for a code 3. United Counties never had anything that looked even remotely like that and were a committed Bristol operator.

Wasn't sure.

20200810_183201971_iOS.jpg

But it is tidily done as was £10 at a car boot, so was happy to have it.  This also doesn't have the earlier circuitry, but strangely they still stuck the indicator lenses on the cost-drive ones.

I've never seen an example of the Swiss PTT post livery they did

Thought perhaps export only?  Although they did produce plenty of the PTT-liveried and much smaller-scale Duple Viceroy

But feel free to look after it for a while longer if it helps.  The way this disastrous summer has gone, it's will probably be winter next week and you might need it for your next garden patio snow-clearing diorama

I got an update from Modelmatic that he had a new batch of Car Culture releases. One especially is going to be like hens teeth so I hit the button. This will guarantee there will be hundreds of them in Smyths next week

Hoping to visit a Smyths on Sunday. Have pretty much given up on the local supermarkets, and Tesco now seem to have some generic diecasts instead of Matchbox.

Picked this up the other day.
It’s for my model railway when I eventually rebuild it after moving.

1/76 scale Transit mk2 by Tiny City.

IMG_2492.thumb.jpeg.8519700c5dd9f938e9725da7e1cb71a4.jpeg

IMG_2494.thumb.jpeg.0fca455d521993fa3f861cc582559224.jpeg

IMG_2495.thumb.jpeg.9ef3a95403a09d74d10eb868c9a9f60f.jpeg

Theyre Hong Kong livery emergency vans, available in fire (2 versions), Police, Ambulance and an airport security van.
I went for this fire department spotlight van as I’m going to remove the spotlight and repaint as a standard panel van later. I’ve never seen these before and I think it’s about the only Mk2 Transit available in 1/76?

Boxes are cool too!

Right then... a successful market jaunt was followed by a trek across town to the other place...

But nothing too spendy - just a mop-up exercise, really.

I really couldn't bother my arse to go schlepping back through Castle Court's assorted diecast emporia as they're mostly a source of disappointment, so The Entertainer, Poundland, B&M and Poundstretcher remained undisturbed by my riffling.

Or maybe I didn't want to run into the perplexed child from B&M last week again. Once is an anomaly, twice is a pattern.

To be honest, I think I'm running out of puff today so it could be time to roll the credits...

I also appear to have become weirdly fixated on trailers lately.

Which is obviously why TWO trailers was totally irresistible.

The ammo trailer has hitches fore and aft, plus opening doors:

Oh wow.

These plastic shells were jammed in pretty tightly, which is presumably how they've managed to survive for fifty-odd years.

A bit of wiggling with a pen top brought them out into the light again, for the first time in a long time.

You can also literally peek through the back window of the shop, should you so choose...

Screenshot_20230818-1450502.thumb.png.1c100013d375f1a0d57f26d3d97e1e9b.png

But yes, there are a lot of kits in there - mostly they seem to be military kits, but there's a whole mezzanine floor of kits upstairs that I've never seen - helpfully, Google has that too:

Screenshot_20230818-1456382.thumb.png.d560b4c82863c5086f7653c013cf0582.png

The shop owner's a bit, um, eccentric - as in, there's signs all over the place to state NO BAGS and ONLY FOUR CUSTOMERS IN THE SHOP AT A TIME and MAXIMUM BROWSING TIME 20 MINS, so I tend not to hang about. I think only ONE person is allowed upstairs at a time.

I know I wrote a diatribe about this place a year or two ago and then deleted it in a fit of remorse because I appeared to be punching down, but yeah - it's fair to say this shop has quite the reputation locally.

I've heard from other collectors who have been arbitrarily banned from the shop, and others who have allegedly offered the proprietor outside for a scrap in the car park to settle things, so yeah - it's all going on.

Having said that, if there's anything you'd like me to look out for @Spottedlaurel then I'd be happy to have a proper look next time I'm passing!

Some unexpected delights then, and a vasty selection of other oddities and things I never knew existed.

But the wind and the rain are whistling round the old library, and I'm unaccountably weary, so I think I'm gonna call it a day. Maybe go home and flop for a bit.

But, as ever - Happy Friday, kids.
