Last time I went I took some really old battery cables from the Mercury. I literally picked them up out the car boot to take them to the metal skip and one of the lads there offered to take them away for me separately…

Being copper I’m not surprised! I wonder where all that goes!

1 of my agency welding jobs was a place in Shrewsbury who made the brake shoes and drums for Liebher cranes ect.

It was mostly automatic welders that just needed babysitting.

All the machines had a pair of new tips fitted after every weld,All the scrap went into a big bucket or 2 which the supervisor took home.

Easily 50kg of quality scrap a day..

The Spot-On 1100 is here!

So, what do we reckon for a total of £9.75 (posted)? Did I get a bit of a bargain or a bit a turd?

If I’m honest… I like it! I think that’s got to be worth just under a tenner all day long.
There’s no casting damage. Glazing is all there and has only the tiniest bit of red paint on which should come off. All wheels & tyres are good. Bonnet present, secure and working. Flexomatic suspension works. It’s good really.
On the negative side, both bumpers are broken and headlights are missing. Roof rack missing. Paint work is even more breathtaking in real life I can assure you! Little Johnny really worked his masterpiece right here!

Anyone know of or have any better bumpers and headlights…?

Colour suggestions??

No Spot On is worth that much!

I've just had a little look on ebay for you.  The grille, front bumper and headlights are one unit, and I haven't found one for sale (yet), repro or otherwise.  What I have found is that you got a good deal!  The cheapest examples online are a tenner plus post.

With that white (ish) interior, perhaps dark green would work?

Dark green would look great!

I've been after the MG 1100 but it's hopeless, always outbid near £20 for wrecks.  Then they reappear weeks later at £40+ untouched

PM me , yours for £41...

code 2 Corgi Commer Hammonds van

That's travelled!

I've done a research.  Was promotional for 'Hammonds of Hull' department store.  So no organ involved.

Commissioned for their 150th anniversary celebrations in May 1971, when Princess Margaret popped by to collect her Corgi Van

Unusual to have cast wheels, at a time when all production had moved over to Whizzwheels.  Also, Corgi never released a mainline stand-alone Commer van body.  Yes, you could make one up using the parts in Gift Set 24, but not a separate release.   The light green roof sets it apart from all the others.

The store is still going.  Now prides itself as a Food Hall  https://www.hohfoodhall.co.uk/

Not known how many were made, but the box end flap stock number 462 was hand-written

And here's me restoring my childhood Humber estate, from which the rack has long vanished! :)

It took me a while to find it again.  Take a look at the photos and if it looks useable in your restoration pm your address and I'll post it,  probably on Friday when I've found or made a small box to resist crushing when put in a jiffy envelope.

Top, then underside with the lugs which plug into the roof.

I remember that one! I nearly kept it tbh!
Agree with you on the worn look. I do like them like that, looking like a much loved and played with toy. The only thing it probably do with that VW is find a way to replace the centre screen pillar. Did it already have tyres on it when I sold it? I don’t remember!

Yes, tyres look to be originals upon closer inspection. They're quite perished but are in keeping with the general patina!

Agreed about the central screen pillar too. I did have one other thought of bare metalling the shell, polishing it with the Dremel and keeping that as the finish  - something a bit different. I reckon if I go down that route I'll use a generic ruined shell as a test mule first though.

Good innit. It would be nice to replace the HAMMONDS sticker though

I have to be honest when I was sent the pic

I thought it was an overpaint and was thinking of ripping it apart for a custom job.

Is it me or are the wheels unique? Thought they normally had the spun ones

Ray, that's beautiful, thank you.  It looks like it's correct for the Humber; I've had a look at some MIB examples online.  PM on the way.

In other news, you can tell I've got a new camera, lol...

Two of my old Spot-Ons that I painted probably 50 years ago, or longer!  I found them in one of my many boxes.  Renault Floride and Austin 1800.  I need to make some room outside then I can get them apart, stripped and painted.

Some of what's in the way!  I think we're through the primer stage now, I can start deciding what colours they need to be.  Oh and don't worry, I do have a body for that Commer.
