Once the rope was installed it was attached to the cable to be draw in and pulled using the capstan mounted at the rear of the vehicle. Normally 2 man operation with the self messing/cleaning facilities to allow reasonable conditions for break periods and the ability to remove the inevitable crap that sticks during this type of work. Usually seen towing a small trailer with the cable to be installed on drum(s). Don't ask me how I know.
