brownnova Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 Shitefest 23 you were awesome….. ley wet. Weather en route appeared promising. Shitefest was at the end of the rainbow. Arrival was done, although not smoothly, having had to jump start at the petrol station despite a 40 mile run up the dual carriageway. The route to the bogs involved knowing your port from your starboard Someone had a massive chopper. Ah that was the museum, which despite having lived in North Wales for 20 years I had no idea existed! The TransSport provided perfectly adequate sleeping quarters. And the cars were eclectic! (not pictured for some inexplicable reason, Fowlers awesome V70) Great company, lovely chilled atmosphere and plenty of shelter. @Sunny Jim Thank you for organising, and sorting the brekky today, @cms206 and @davidfowler2000 thank you for making me realise how little TV I have watched, @binhoker668thanks for the shelter! Weather on the way home… glorious. Safely home… well… I am now. This isn’t my house… but it is cool. dollywobbler, Dyslexic Viking, CaptainBoom and 11 others 14
beko1987 Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 I'm home now! Another great shitefest, drive 250 miles to drink some beers with some folk in the rain then drive back! I failed a bit this year, in that on both evenings I nipped back to the car to check the airbed was still up/grab something and fell asleep... 🤣 Meh, was a nice relaxing holiday! I didn't really do an mpg calc but I started with almost a full tank, - 49 miles for the trip to work I did with it on Thursday, then all this and the light came on just as I indicated to come off the m40 for the asda that shot was taken at which was nice! Fair mix of 85/90 and 50mph the way home too, and the drive up wasn't the best either as Birmingham was hell as was the m6 and then i went cross country, and as that was 4pm on a Friday it was rather fast as the locals just wanted to get about so zoom zoom! No rain on the way home too bar a few patches I must have been 5 minutes behind some angry rain @AnnoyingPentiumI hope the skoda is an easy fix, @catsinthewelder I've got your tent, will send it Chris/fod-wards at the earliest chance, will bung it in the airing cupboard to dry out for a few days first though 👍 Now for a shower and to unpack AnnoyingPentium, chaseracer and catsinthewelder 2 1
Sunny Jim Posted July 16, 2023 Author Posted July 16, 2023 Splitting the flags here now you've all left. @AnnoyingPentium tried to call you - just spoken to the recovery yard - they won't let me get my spare off your car as it's already loaded onto a wagon and will be Scotland-bound by the early hours of tomorrow morning. We might be able to sort some kind of shitely transport to get wheels back to each other via SVM who are attending FoTU. twosmoke300, AnnoyingPentium and rantingYoof 2 1
Ghosty Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 I'm back, thanks for another top SF folks. Who was I tallking to about brakes... going to bring that forward I think as the pedal's getting longer and longer, and starting to judder a bit. @AnnoyingPentium is being ferried by CMS. PicantoJon Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 (edited) What a way to spend a weekend! Pissed and piss wet through in a Welsh field. Thanks for arranging it @Sunny Jim and thanks to the SVM for the much needed squared pork product on Saturday morning. Also thanks for putting up with this socially awkward shiter. Just popping a wee message on here to say I'm alright, and I'd like to thank @KruJoe, @Ghosty, and @Sunny Jim for the rescue on that big hill. Also massive thanks to @catsinthewelder for providing me with a tent to keep the rain off my head. One of the SVM are giving me a run home too, so massive thanks to them, and also everyone at SF who has been really supportive. I'm currently awaiting news as to when my car will be returned back to Scotland, but I was told this coming week or the next. Cheers. At least there was no damage to yourself other than perhaps your pride! Feel free to take comfort that you haven't destroyed an engine like I managed to do 😄 Shit happens, chin up, although I have no doubt your chin is already firmly up and I didn't have to say that AnnoyingPentium, PicantoJon, Sunny Jim and 1 other 4
beko1987 Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 Reminds me of my first shitefest, clipping a bit of rock on the way home and ultimately loosing 2 tyres! (1st one went near instantly and had the spare, then the 2nd one went 30 miles further after it's gouge developing further). Hilarious fun waiting for the then heavily pregnant ex to get a neighbor to put 2 of the spare wheels I happened to have lying around (with old shitty tyres) then driving to past Hereford so I could fit them (space saver had the original 1994 tyre on so it came back off)! wuvvum Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 75 in Snowdonia. My solitary chod spot on the journey home - this came buzzing past while I was in a layby on the A11 having a snack break. Rover behaved itself, and used about 85 quid of diesel which isn't too bad considering. Traffic on the way back was much better than on Friday, although needless to say the M6 around Birmingham was shit again. Thanks Jim for organising what turned out to be an enjoyable weekend in spite of the weather. KruJoe, Sunny Jim, Six-cylinder and 4 others 7
beko1987 Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 I found 2 saffron buns in the bags earlier, sharing them now! Thanks @twosmoke300 twosmoke300, Six-cylinder, PicantoJon and 6 others 8 1
3VOM Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 Safely back home here. Thanks to everyone, especially Jim, for a good but soggy Shitefest. Good to catch up with people and meet some new faces. HillmanImp Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 I got these on the way back but the camera focused on the dashboardso they're a bit blurry. 😂 There was also an Insignia in between each side of the M62 just before that famous farmhouse. Looks like it had been dumped after it had been crashed as had a load of police stickers over it. PicantoJon, Sunny Jim, KruJoe and 2 others 5
Popular Post KruJoe Posted July 16, 2023 Popular Post Posted July 16, 2023 We're safely back to Malhamdale, having done a job on the way. Sorry to have had to leave before the group pic, Lin did suggest it to me, I should have listened. Anyway, just this side of Preston, we came across this old boy, stranded in an awkward spot with his 1275cc Moggie boiling over. Let me introduce Colonel Thomas Eccles (89): He was out of water and it wasn't starting, so ARSE kicked into gear once again. We had about two gallons on board which it took after letting it cool for a bit. Then the car would fire up then stall, like poor fuel pressure, there wasn't much in the lines. The electric SU pump on the bulkhead wasn't doing very much. While we were talking about towing him back to Blackburn, he tried it again and it sort of ran, long story short, we found a water supply and then nursed it back to his work shop. Brace yourself, this place is a bit special: He was suffering with his COPD but we made sure he was well enough to take himself home in his SAAB daily. But not until he'd spent 20 minutes trying to find a business card for me. During which time I'd found him in his own yellow pages. In the bottom of a filing cabinet he found me one, check out the phone number! He says he's still there most days with his son. What a joy to know we still have these places tucked away down cobbled back streets behind red brick terraces. Brilliant 😊 Coprolalia, Wack, aldo135 and 49 others 52

Dick Cheeseburger Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 How good does that old fella's Moggie thou 1275 look? I'm not always convinced about minilites, but they look spot on when fitted to a slightly lowered Minor. I wonder what's up with it to be blowing the blue smoke out when it's back up and running? Something more involved than fuelling issues I guess. What a legend the chap is though - to be out playing with shite at the age of almost 90. The 405 looks tidy too... KruJoe and egg 2

Six-cylinder Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 In spite of @Sunny Jim overcompensating when we asked him to turn down the sunshine from last year it was a great weekend. KruJoe Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 I'm suspecting HGF on Colonel Eccles's Marina powered Moggie. It was blowing water from the non-standard(?) expansion bottle. The cap may have been faulty but I suspect it's more serious. And his barry-spec rocker cover keeps coming loose and pissing oil out. I remember them being a problem from my Mini days, especially with those quick release bolts instead of the standard hex jobs. That 1275 might be ready for a rebuild. He was heading off to Lytham St Anne's, without a phone, and he didn't even have the number of anyone who could come and rescue him. Sounds like the sort of thing my 90 year old father would do! davidfowler2000 Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 Edit: Holy shit this is longer than I anticipated... Finally home and in a position to write something here. I had a diversion at the end to take WOMAN_df2K home and drop the trailer at hers to be collected at another time. She had a good time despite seemingly having chronic hayfever all weekend. And being damp... although I think we were all pretty soggy all weekend. We were pretty tired on the Friday owing to having no sleep on the Thursday night due to working a late shift. Thanks again to @Sunny Jimfor organising and Ted the site owner for accomodating us, @binhoker668for providing ample shelter and one of the mystery prizes to the quiz, @Ghostyfor providing the other mystery prize and everyone for being a generally good egg. A few new faces, lots of old faces so I won't bother to mention everyone. The TV Theme Quiz : We had a great turnout for the TV Theme quiz and we got exactly what we wanted - everyone to go "AHHHH FUCK WHAT IS THAT AGAIN?!?!?!?!" - so thanks to everyone who took part, myself and @cms206put a good amount of thought in to it and it was very enjoyable seeing the looks of sheer confusion on everyone's faces! The results were as follows and the answers are at the end for anyone bored enough to go back through it... 1st Place : @rml2345 - 23 points. The prize being a bottle of Irn Bru 1901 You'd think it was a fix a fellow SVM member winning the 1st place until you realise a diabetic man won the bottle of ultra-sugar Irn Bru. 2nd Place : @BL Bloke - 17 points (Tied) : The prize was to chose one of the mystery prizes and he chose binhoker's which was a Goodmans Car Stereo Cassette Player. 3rd Place : @Talbot - 17 points (Tied) : The prize was the remaining mystery one - Ghosty's - a nodding dog. The tie breaker was the first to call out a played theme tune - Blockbusters And everyone else:@Ghosty - 15 points@mat_the_cat - 13 points@AnthonyG - 13 points@Supernaut - 11 points@davehedgehog31 - 10 points@brownnova - 10 points@captain_70s - 9 points@MrsJuular - 8 points@Sunny Jim - 8 points@wuvvum - 7 points@EightMegs - 5 points@Six-cylinder - 4 points And a special mention to @3VOMwho came last with 3 points winning a block of Rawl Plugs. Now for the photo dump... I finished work at about 2100 but Sarah was booked on 'till about 0045. Instead of getting taxi back to the station to finish, I collected her at the depot and took her home where the trailer was parked. We got to bed about 0130 to be up at 0445 to do the drive. Corkerhill Depot in the dark Next morning at 0600, SCOTOSHITE ASSEMBLE!!! We went via the British Commercial Vehicle Museum in Leyland @cms206 became The Pope™ for a brief spell...
