pauldoubleyou
Remember that time I told the wife I was done with buying shite? Well she’s gone to Asda in a rage. Picked this up local. An actual old lady Golf. Massive history, 117k. Thousands spent in the last two years. Poor old dear was in tears when I drove it away but she had her licence taken off her or something - one owner since 96. Needs a right good spruce up and according to the history a new rack (rusty pipes part of the rack, but not leaking?) Gonna wash it and bang it in for a test. It’s had a bit of a weldathon in the past, will see. For the price of a test it’ll be a laugh. Condition - minging Gearstick - sloppy Brakes - crap Rear wiper - missing Radio - tuned to Radio 4 Drives really nice though if you don’t need to stop. 1.8 8v. Stickers of national trust for the authenticity. Searched all through it and didn’t find any coins at all, which was odd. BorniteIdentity
Nice. I much prefer the low rent MK2/3 Golfs to the GTi. I guess that’s why I like AS. I think these estates are the bee’s knees. Good luck with the MOT.

pauldoubleyou
Amazing what some soap, bumper shine and a can of satin black can do. Funnily, as it’s a mk3 golf and apparently cool my 14 year old has shown an interest and we just spent an hour together cleaning it. Was quite nice.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Steviemillar, 320touring, UltraWomble and 11 others
AnthonyG
Wow, CL spec, pure luxury - I think this was the lowest you could get in the U.K, maybe there was a L in the early years of the Mk3. Have fun with it. Has the interior suffered from dog transporting - the back seat looks to have housed animals of some type!

Teach him to drive in that, I taught both my kids, saved a fortune. I taught em to drive and when they had mastered that, I taught them how to pass their test. Unfortunately he is only 15 this year, and i dont fancy getting him insured on a 1.8. It is nice to see his interest though, ive kind of let him go wild on it - showed him how to start it up, connect a battery etc. Would be nice to give it all a go together. In all honesty the garage in the receipts is the only garage ive used local for about the last seven years, the only one i trust at least. I think the trick is that is they did all that welding only 2 years ago, and its done 2k miles since - surey they cant fail it on their own welding lol

Tamworthbay
Great find! I bought my last mini off an old lady in Southampton but that had done 30k in 28 years nipping to the shops and back. The amount of clay that came out on the Motorway on the way back was amazing. I don’t think it had ever been over 40mph in its life.

pauldoubleyou
Going through the wedge of history today and there’s every receipt for every tax disk. Also the original receipt from Nov 96, £11k! Bargain Seems she got £1800 for a four door Golf 1.3 (mk1?) G824 BSD with a whopping 60,500 miles on it For those interested the welding seems to have been two full sills and under the front two jacking points, and is still nice and fresh. Which is a good thing Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 500tops and bunglebus

My sister had the same engine in GL-spec, and that was very quick for "only" 90hp. "K931 EWB" was later wrecked in a collision with a van driver. Very lightly-built to the point of having tinny body panels, though, and some switches had a tendency to fall off when you pressed them.
