gtd2000 Posted August 23, 2017 Share Posted August 23, 2017 Nothing to stop you driving away anywhere, but I would say it needs the rear brakes looking at. They just pass an MOT but my suspicion is that the shoes are low. It also has an oil leak, from the rocker cover seal I think. Also, just in case it's a deal breaker, the rear wiper does not park automatically. Common problem with these engines supposedly. It's the head gasket according to my investigations almost 10 years ago now. Never caused any trouble in the two years I owned the car, which was subsequently sold and used for a while on the road, then assumed farm transport role therafter. I also bloody love BIG rear lights. Er, and a supermarket, with dim-dip in full effect yo. (annoyingly, it no longer works on the Bluebird) Had a quick drive home, tyres screeching. Not sure if that's because I was cornering quickly, or just because the tyres are shit. One of the two. Possibly both. It's a much nicer car to drive than the Bluebird. The engine has just the right amount of torque for the weight, whereas the Bluebird always feels short of grunt. Always. The Proton also has nice steering, even if it needs a fair turn - more than you expect. I may have to cancel this ROFFLE, but let's see if the Honda actually sells first... dollywobbler Posted August 31, 2017 Author Share Posted August 31, 2017 Decision made. I have declared the Proton SORN, so I can return the Honda to the road. I've invested considerably more in that car, so it's pointless having it just sitting there. However, with only hours left of tax, I decided to take the Proton for a quick drive. After all, I fancied some chocolate. 36 miles later, I thought I'd better stop. Yeah, that 'quick drive' got a bit out of hand. However, it was the first time I'd driven the Proton outside Ceredigion! In fact, I'd driven through Powys and on into Gwynedd. However, they wanted money for parking, and there was a huge queue in the chippy, so I thought 'sod this,' went back to Machynlleth (no, you don't pronounce it like that), got some chips there, found a quiet spot to munch them and after a bit of a hoon about, turned for home. The drive back was pretty epic too. I actually had to stop, just to look at the sky. To be fair, the view is better without the car in it. And, about ten minutes ago, I got home. Proton now SORN and ready for ROFFLE or straight sale once more.
