Your Roiver is a really nice one, never seen the lid attached to the wheel cover!

As  kid I had golden jacks versions of

Mini Marcos, Oldsmobile Toronado, Chevrolet Camaro and Hillman Hunter

Corgi also made the Rover, Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and Rolls Royce Silver Shadow.

Originally they planned to make more such as the Pontiac Firebird, Ferrari Dino Sport and Lamborghini Miura, but changed them to Whizzwheels at the last minute. My childhood Miura has a Whizzwheels sticker over the Golden Jacks box.

Have a look at this https://sites.google.com/view/corgitoys/catalogues/1969

Here are some of mine

Superb thanks for that info & the link.

I'm liking those other ones that you've got !

I do have the others in the range, just not sure where haha!

If you do have a few of them it's fun to swap the wheels around, you may have noticed my Rover was wearing wheels from a Hunter. I bought a couple of packets of wheels when I was a kid.

I put Rolls Royce wheels on my top chop Corvette

Yeah I noticed that. Might try & pick up some others myself.

If you find them please post pics. I really like the look of the Hunter & Rolls '.

Tamiya PS-46? Amazing paint that reminds me of MG Rover's crazy Monogram range so I've just used it on a Rover 75.

It's actually Rustoleum Colour Shift, I've used all three colours and really like them...

What a great collection of eye-catching colours. Cosmic blue looks a lot like Monogram Twilight so I guess I need a can of that and another 75 now :)

I've had one of my occasional days out today with my sister, at an antiques market.  As you can imagine, almost everything was grossly overpriced.

100_1072.JPG.ebf1e37cc3c84d11babcc6ea4a702161.JPG

Well I did say almost...  Two 1/43 copcars at £1 each, and a Morris RNLI van at £2.  I have quite a collection of copcars from around the world.  I think I already have these two, but need to check; if I have they can go in the repaint pile.  The van can go with my other RNLI vans, bringing that wing of the collection to three or four.

When I was in New York, there were no diecast other than expensive and shit emergency vehicles in twee souvenir shops. I wanted a model of 2 of the most common cars I saw there, a Toyota Camry and a 2022 GM Tahoe/Yukon/Suburban/Escalade.  Both in black private hire car guise.

I found this on ebay for £20:

Screenshot_20240417_170535_eBay.jpg.dbc5c88bf0729f0d034f4372eaf31c5f.jpg

Nope:

Old model. That got sent back today.

But I found this Moving Parts in the Center Parcs toy shop last week (2 holidays in a month don't you know!)

20240427_190624.jpg.65a5d2ac6fd633eff00a9364275887b1.jpg

Perfect!

I also found just the right latest generation Camry on ebay, in black. I was still in NY at that point so just had to look out the window for a few seconds until I could check a real example for reference.  Was this model any good?

Yes, yes it was!

1:34 scale, it's quite large:

Toyota really do make handsome large saloon cars. I also didn't know you could still get these in the UK although they are rare and quite expensive.  I wonder where they are made as the ones I saw in NY were all American manufactured, in fact they are supposedly one of the 'most American made' cars on sale there.

20240427_190209.jpg.adddcdcaddcc96a80c1a94284a587bec.jpg

Lots of opening features. It also has working lights and even the Sat -Nav screen illuminates but I don't have any batteries just now.

20240427_190315.jpg.9fb8db204a65073f6860b4074a121f54.jpg

I haven't heard of this make but its actually a very fine model and well made.  I like this one a lot.

These two arrived today. Pictured after a wash.

The Merryweather AEC is absolutely battered! It was covered in (and full of!) mud and it’s been used so much the rubber tyres are actually all bald!
But, it’ll be a good candidate for another frankenErgo cab donor.

And this one.
Dinky Coles Hydra mobile crane. I’ve been eyeing these up for a while now, mainly because of that cool cab styling! This one is pretty good but needs a few repairs.

I noticed something, and I'm amazed it took me this long to see it as I've had dozens of these. Matchbox VW 1600 TL, with the later enlarged wheel arches. On the left, the swage line goes right across the arch

Matchbox Superfast 67 Volkswagen 1600 TL

On the right, the line is broken by the curve of the arch

Weird

But not on all of them it seems.

I wonder if someone spotted the error and corrected it later on

I’ve got the Rover and Oldsmobile golden jacks but I think that’s it.

@eddyramrod has my Hillman GJ which was in a right state! I can’t think of any others though. Has it gone through the cosmic soda yet?

I think the Rover is a fantastic casting in either form and probably still one of my favourites from Corgi.

Have you also noticed that the trim line goes beyond the front arch on the right, but not on the left. Anyone would think those VWs were built by BL on a Friday afternoon.

Agreed.

The Hillman is in the next batch for drilling, so its bath isn't far away!  I should gather my GJs together for a photo; perhaps this afternoon between BTCC races.

I'm going to dig out all mine shortly and have a close look at them. I've sold lots on to keep the best ones, I'd have more if I'd noticed this earlier!

Here:

Left is a rare narrow wheel/big arch transitional car, unfortunately a bit squished. Next are two big wheel big arch cars in different shades of pink, and lastly my attempt at a fake skinny Superfast wheel/big arch car where the colour wasn't as good a match as I'd hoped!

You can see the differences in swage line/arch profile, I think perhaps there were two moulds and they differed

I did a search-about as I thought it had been replaced, or was about to be, by the 2024 XV80 model.

It seems the Europe-supply plant for XV70 Camry production is Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky (TMMK) at Georgetown. Built alongside Lexus ES.

The (hybrid-only) XV80 intended replacement is currently only available to Toyota Central Europe region (Czechia, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary), Baltic countries and Israel.  That supply is also TMMK built.

Liking the Toronado especially.

I do still wonder why my jacks aren't gold coloured. I wonder if they changed to plain metal later on ?

I think I have a spare Toronado, I'll have a look later on if I get a chance.

I've noticed this (silver jacks) on some models as well, not sure if they weren't painted the same colour or if some discolour, I don't think Van Cleemput mentions it in his book

I had a large arch 1600TL but it was silver - wasn’t a faded pink either as it was silver inside as well. Possible colour trial. Left it at my mums in the loft and with the best of intentions she slung it as it was a bit tatty. But then thoughtfully she kept all the shit stuff that subsequently we found was completely worthless. 🙄

That pink is I think laid over a silver base coat - I've seen a 57 Chevy look very silver too, was never sure if it was a fade or just a mistake at the factory. There are certainly almost endless shades of pink to be found now

To continue the Corgi Golden Jacks conversation of earlier, here are all my originals from when I was a kid...

IMG_9311.JPG.c3a7436a8dd98dc681773235ad61ad1e.JPG

Now I have at least one of all the Golden Jacks models, I think the only model that started out with standard wheels is the Toronado. The Rover in a previous life had spun wheels, but no sun roof and the Trans O Lite headlamps so quite a bit different.

IMG_9313.JPG.5de3c5542943337ab98f1b78cca239f0.JPG

and more than one of some of them...

IMG_9314.JPG.12db813fc31cf1dac827b7e9d52ef66f.JPG

I do have the wheels for those you can see missing and few spares as well

IMG_9315.JPG.053aacb2bbbb762067182baeb876e4b7.JPG

I mentioned in a previous post that some models were all set to be Golden Jacks and changed at the last minute to Whizzwheels even though the boxes had been printed, here's my childhood Miura in box that the young me pulled half the sticker off

IMG_9317.JPG.a1d5102ad9f574339ea36375403997aa.JPG

the end flaps have this on them

IMG_9316.JPG.4dbbbac9c2fe1b171acf33cd11289b9d.JPG

also the colour of the jacks does vary and on the wheel less RR are properly silver
