I used to use the same sort of stuff in my 340. I'm not sure I can justify paying the zillion doubloons for Castrol Magnatec when I can get Petronas Syntium, which seems to be ok, for what seems like a mere few duckets in comparison! Have ordered Petronas Syntium 10w 40. Just need the air filter, it's not mega urgent and I'm sure I'll get one, I'm just surprised Eurocarparts didn't have one. Tried twice, no results. I got a thermostat for my 924 at the same time so that's a bonus. Yes I had two cars with stuck thermostats at the same time. I'm expecting my fuel bill to halve now ? danthecapriman
danthecapriman
I’m sure your choice of oil will be more than good enough! The Magnatec we used was bought in bulk as it went into many different cars. We had it stored in a big metal tank which could then pump it via overhead pipes to every ramp in our garage. We had little guns on the side of each ramp that you just stuck into the oil filler cap and start filling. That oil was probably better than what a lot of the older cars actually needed tbh but since we had it on tap - why not! Cord Fourteener
bunglebus
Cor I remember these being new when I did my work experience at ovloV. The turbo one, and the 480 were good fun, even went out in a 262 one day, but I digress... Cord Fourteener

Cord Fourteener
Had an afternoon to myself. I've crudely tried to slow the bits of rust that are present using Dremel wire brushes and rust converter (only did one side today; the worst side). Obviously I found filler under the paint here and there. Not the most neat or complete job but it'll do for now. I might even go over it with blue paint one day ? Shirley Knott
Good work, almost all of my fleet need a tickle with the rust converter stuff now and then. I'd try and get something over the top of it as soon as you can, it really needs a top coat over it for any kind of longevity IME. Cord Fourteener
Thermostat change and coolant along with it today. The temp was low unless parked and idling when it would reach half. Anyway the old coolant looked ok, a bit murky perhaps. Old thermostat proved to be functional, but I replaced it anyway as I had the new one. It wasn't exactly the same shape but fits and the temperature acts just the same as it did so all is good suppose; I fitted a new part therefore improved the car and it still works. I going to assume the normal operation range is between a quarter and just below half. theshadow, danthecapriman, LightBulbFun and 1 other
Cord Fourteener
Tap water flush: Not bad I suppose. Blue antifreeze going in and jobs a good'n. danthecapriman, Dan302, LightBulbFun and 1 other
Cord Fourteener
It turns out, after a proper 25 minute drive the temperature has settled to a warm nearly half way. So today this is definitely an improvement over previous. ProgRocker, Lacquer Peel, paulplom and 5 others
Cord Fourteener
So eurocarparts delivered my oil filter weeks ago along with the thermostat, but can't get the engine oil to me! No oil changes for now then, just lots of apologies on my email. I'm sure it's not their fault, it's a sign of the times!

danthecapriman
Looks better. Cars look ‘harder’ with just black steel wheels! What were the trims? Just cheapo Halfords jobbies? Cord Fourteener, mitsisigma01 and LightBulbFun

Just cheapo Halfords jobbies? I think so, Trim, Wheel, Standard, No.1, Halfords. I assume. One had fallen off anyway. I don't like the fakeness of trims, I'd rather see a wheel. Hubcap maybe like old VWs, alloys or steel wheels looking nice. I'll wash the wheels and the entire car one day. danthecapriman and LightBulbFun
Cord Fourteener
I bought this car as a stop-gap to get me through repairs on my BMW E46 estate while I expected my work load to soar. The intention was always to roffle it so here it is however at one point I was so pleased with this that I seriously wondered if I could keep this and sell the estate. However I need the estate, it's big engine and it's tow bar (and it is very lovely too). COVID-19 meant that my work didn't soar, it diminished so I can't really justify keeping this car as I don't really have the space or income to run as many cars as I have. I'll be sorry to see it go, really I will but hopefully it will take a couple of weeks to roffle so I'll get to enjoy it a bit more then pass it along to another shitter to enjoy...
