I'm after Mercedes SLK models, the 1st version. If anyone has anything they don't want, please let me know.

I know there's a few Hotwheels versions,I'd be especially keen to get the black one. Also, any 1/43 would be good.Larger ones may still be good, although I don't really have the space for them 🤔

Thanks

I've been rummaging in the loft, with the intention of following through with my idea of unboxing various Hot Wheels premiums and putting them on display.

There are some

PXL_20240120_1222248973.thumb.jpg.f711ee999a30e166e41145f0f03285c4.jpg

I didn't include any VW ones. It's actually quite terrifying how many I found, I think there are a few I'm not really that bothered about so I'll chuck those up for sale, and I'll check the value of the more unusual ones before I go ripping into the packaging.

Just trying to locate my brave pills...

The Herpa one in 1/43rd is quite good. You might find some cheap on Ebay as I have never found them easy to move on for more than a fiver.

I've made a start on the Record/Solido R5 Turbo.

DSCF1725.thumb.JPG.2bfb219ce82661c1aef7051d1026566d.JPG

The car is the Garage Galtier Renault 5 Turbo as driven by Bruno Saby and Jean-Marc Andrié on the 1981 Lombard RAC Rally. Yes the same entrant and driver of the blue R5 I did the other week. The car did not finish the rally due to a crash on Special Stage 11.

I found a good selection of pictures on the web. I even found a bit of old 8mm film on the YouTube.

Untitled.jpg.832f8b35c04ecb2dfa2aeeaf43122dcf.jpg

Untitled2.thumb.jpg.d033e578524659fd8264c122b89c5df7.jpg

Image793985.jpg.42344823aafc11faefc5af9267367f05.jpg

Image793986.jpg.09a90735c670b228f317a53ffa2ea8ea.jpg

So what's in the box.

DSCF1726.thumb.JPG.6e1ee7e432a26112cb8235e6ea7423b7.JPG

A car with sellotape on the bottom?

DSCF1727.thumb.JPG.909a43805e54bbd3764f98073b7a6a24.JPG

Some decals with only one that looks like it will be a problem. It's the one that goes up the windscreen pillars, along the roof sides and over the rear spoiler. All the others are just small little ones that kind of go on flat surfaces. No decals for the front and rear lighting, so I'll have to dig out some orange Humbrol for those.

DSCF1728.thumb.JPG.ec2207bfb0bb5e1ecd35c175e45312ee.JPG

Very basic instructions.

DSCF1729.thumb.JPG.13db4274ce0f29ff1710fe69e2b80a0d.JPG

Why the sellotape? We have some little resin cast spot lights and mirrors.

DSCF1730.thumb.JPG.cc24b568800f9d3fd4eb0484d403969a.JPG

No holes in the model for these parts, but they can be fitted approximately using the ridges in the bumper and the corners of the window openings. Just a pit there are no little Cibie decals to go on the fronts of the spots, looks like it's going to be black backs with silver painted lenses.

DSCF1731.thumb.JPG.f192bf6d448f64addd40d4b458e3fc20.JPG

So lets get started. I thought I'd jump in the deep end and tackle that roof decal. It broke into four parts as soon as it hit the water.  It also reacted quite a lot with the MicroSol. I did get some reaction when doing the Lancia with the MicroSol, but it does level out after drying.

DSCF1732.thumb.JPG.62e5d1d953d3b327d1c1658fc5f3bfc9.JPG

It just looks bad at the moment. Well I'll leave it for now and start again tommorrow when it has had a good 18 hours to dry out. Obviously the white Humbrol will be out again to touch up the bad areas and the screen pillar edges.

Well I dug the old paint tin out of the cupboard, time to revive some old enamels.

DSCF1737.thumb.JPG.5f53a1f3e5ef4921d35e731176533798.JPG

On the R5 I first cleaned up the decal removing bits that had gone where they shouldn't

DSCF1734.thumb.JPG.74cecbb239088e66f2050a2641758ac2.JPG

This also caused a bit of loss on the correct bits.

DSCF1735.thumb.JPG.37e5a7604d01585e4874c3750b353281.JPG

DSCF1736.thumb.JPG.a17435675b5b51dcf2e7943916f4147b.JPG

Looks OK from the top. I even managed to get the screen pillars done without getting the edge of the screen.

DSCF1742.thumb.JPG.b70e129f6071cce6d2334a72c521e66c.JPG

Looks good from the front. I have also done a bit of orange and silver superdetail on the lamps.

DSCF1741.thumb.JPG.350353e10060b75488b6ef0cc58f3ce4.JPG

Left side looked OK when I had done it, but photographs show up all the iffy bits, including an big orange finger print. My impatient 7 year old is back again doing things without realising they have a bit of orange paint on their finger after reviving the old orange for the indicators. It has since been removed with a bit of thinners along with the bit of white on the door frame.

DSCF1740.thumb.JPG.0095dbfc7daf6e659d7c6e169dded493.JPG

Right side is OK but again a little cleaning on door frames is required.

DSCF1738.thumb.JPG.84d0738dc20c9a62e899dc68bbd10081.JPG

Rear with detailing. The rear spoiler is OK when not magnified by photography. Those rear reflectors look pants, but a quick wipe has seen to them, luckily they are recessed so the red stays in the gap. Once the paint has dried it will be on with the decals.

And this, which I've seen on the same stall a couple of times, and I think is the same one I regretted not picking up several years ago from the young lad who's often there. Quite an unusual version of the K-7 Refuse Truck, which I guess must have come with a tool to insert into the nose, turning that lifts the tipping mechanism and pushes the jack under the front down

K-7 is from the "Big MX" range from the early 70s, a series of six King Size vehicles that came with a "power activator" which looks like a drill

It seems I already have one of the Big MX  range, the K-15 Merryweather Fire Engine

Matchbox Superkings K-15 Merryweather Fire Engine

It doesn't look much different to the normal version but there's the drive for the ladder sticking out of the back.

And it came with a twin

Matchbox Superkings K-15 Merryweather Fire Engine

Think I sold these in my recent purge though

I had a fair few Solido releases as a kid, which came with waterslide transfers - it was a huge source of frustration to me, as they just wouldn't go on cleanly, and always ended up lifting and cracking. The Triumph Spitfire with the large yellow transfer on the bonnet is the one the springs to mind most readily:

Screenshot_20240121-1226112.thumb.png.b44e52bb0a5b19c356e07d51adb9b0ed.png

I just assumed I was really shit at putting on transfers, and became quite disheartened. I'd similar issues with Bburago 1/24 kits (Lancia Delta and Alfa 75), though not really with Scalextric models.

Looking at it again, I really had no hope trying to get a flat decal to adhere to the compound curves of a bonnet, with only a saucer of lukewarm water. I'd no idea at the time that specialist softeners existed, or products like DecalFix.

In a way, it's something of a vindication to learn that I wasn't the only one finding this challenging!

Definitely Buddy-L.  You should see the 'L' on the underneath next to 'Buddy', with 'Made in Japan' below that.

What's the 'good' chazza shop then? I don't really look at toys when I visit, but would be nice to know where it's worth checking in future...

I've seen it before in Snoopers, but I've only just recently got a couple of plastic Norevs and found I really like them! Having looked on ebay the price doesn't seem bad and I know from experience that Snoopers won't usually do discount on anything under £10 no matter what you say.

The toy shop that has old tat is in Trafalgar St (North Laine) and called The Play House.

The charity shop is Chesnut Tree House in London Road.
