^ lovely! Didn't breadvan have one? Mustard mitt, get confused here re what's a murena (sp?) and what's a bagheera (sp?)

You can tell the difference between by whether it exists(Murena) or not(Bagheera) as the latter came with rust as standard, the chassis merrily dissolved beneath the plastic panels and killed most of them. Murena chassis got galvanised I think. Top mid-engined shite.

Yes, Bagheera had a plastic body, bonded to a powder-coated steel chassis that rotted away, and was then practically impossible to restore. Bit like early Lotus Europa.

Congrats. Now buy her a mini x1/9 to get her off to a good start :-)

Had a brief tinkering session before work wherein I took my Sony head unit out of the Volvo and put it in the Prelude. It's the best sounding radio I've heard in any car for a long time, super subtle looking and easy to use. It works with the electric aerial too which is nice. Confused the fuck out of me the first time it went up! The Pioneer unit that was in there when I got it is off to Supernaut.

In changing the radios over I found that only two of the four speakers worked - on one of the rears, a ground wire was loose so I just electrical taped it in place, job jobbed for now. The one in the passenger door only puts out some high end quietly so I'll investigate if it's blown and replace the front ones if so.

The boot carpet doesn't sit flat - it turns out the car came with a dinner plate space saver as standard, that someone has thrown away and replaced with a full size 14" steel wheel with a Dunlop SP Sport on it. I have no issue with that.

The clock is also u/s (bulb?) but I'm not too fussed about that.

Is it hard to get the dash panel out? (Ian?)

All change with cars this week. Literally have friggin cars coming out my ears now. By the end of next week I'll have 5 cars at my place unless I do something about it.

Mini convertible went back as the rental place sold it. Picked this up as a replacement. Its a Honda HRV. I'm telling you that because it's so bland you've probably never noticed them before.

Had 14 miles on the clock when I picked it up. I do like my Honda's. But I don't really like this. Honestly it's a total appliance. Going to have to go back soon to make space.

I've agreed on a settlement value on the Civic. Also going to get it back as salvage too. Going to fix it up and potentially give it to my in-laws. If they don't want it, I'll stick it up here for sale. Will likely be an absolute billy bargain if I do as I will need to make space quck.

Also agreed with a mate to buy his car that he was going to send to WeBuyAnyCar. He's bought a expensive but minter Clio 182 in his favourite colour and spec to replace it. I won't say what the car I'm getting is but it's likely eligible for the Low Cost But High Liability thread.

YOLO right?

No more gas leaks for me.

The lad that services my LPG used to play bass in Smokie and The Animals ( not original line ups).

Still though. One cool dude.

Scirocco has MOT and tax.

Planning repatriation mission.

Looking forward to explaining the modifications to insurers:

'yes, I've reduced the engine size, bhp and changed to diesel'.

First thing I did when I bought the Saab, if I get a puncture, I'm already likely to be late - I don't want to then be restricted to 50mph on the doughnut tyre.

If anyone wants the space saver by the way, will happily dish out for postage costs when I'm back in the UK.

Heh, are you selling yours through Discogs? I've managed to offload a coupla hundred cassettes through there - Scandinavian and Japanese buyers seem particularly keen at the minute.

And I still have a boxed and practically unused Sony Minidisc head unit kicking around in the attic, for those looking for the ultimate Y2K ICE experience.

The cassettes are all D90s/120s that an old giffer used to record Radio 2 programmes onto.  I've probably sold about 200 so far, with another 500 left I reckon.  The Minidiscs are what we used to use in the studio for playout of pre-recorded/produced items and I've been slowly archiving anything worth keeping onto HDD/Cloud.

And Renault GTA / Alpine. See Hertz' post above.

And then they quote you double the normal premium!

I would just like to say I have seen a few moans lately on here which may be justified or not ,depending on your view. My view is that I think this forum is amazing. We have people from all walks of life and we all have experience and advice to offer whatever the problem may be. My dad always said" if you don't know ,ask someone who does". I suppose like all friends we can disagree with each other from time to time. But we all come back for more to offer help and advice when needed. Anyway I shall stop being soppy now and go out. Got to go and see why my new car isn't ready. Arnold Clarke hey, who would have thought.

^ I thought the real quote was "If you don't know, put the wrong answer on the internet and someone will correct you".

Convert washing line into spray shop - check

Noticed my push mowers black powder coat was flaking off and the frame was rusting quite badly so I gave it a sand, couple of primers, and a few topcoats of British racing green Rustoleum. My mower now looks like it previously lived in the engine bay of a Morris Minor. Huzzah!

^^

There was a time when all traditional lawnmowers seemed to be that shade of green, because Qualcast. I remember pushing one of their budget two-wheeler mowers around in the 1980s.

I did ponder going for French blue with a couple of white pinstripes...

Twenty years ago I had a summer job where I shared an office with a slightly eccentric chap who played recordings of Robbie Vincent's show on BBC Radio London from the 80's all bloody day, every day. I think I heard the catchphrase "if it moves, funk it" about 1,000 times during my employment.

I had completely repressed that memory until now. Made me smile, so thank you.

I am currently flailing / shitting bricks just a little bit.

Got a job interview next Thursday... in Birmingham.

I managed to get flights for a decent price, so that's sorted, and got the time off the current job. Still, the closing date for applications was way back at the beginning of February, I thought I hadn't got it and had totally forgotten about it. I then got an email last night saying come for interview next week please.

AARGH!

Still, potential 40% salary increase is worth it.

The one in the Midlands. Alabama would be interesting though...

who was driving a VW Golf car, with a trailer carrying the car, VRM BF7875, felt it wasn’t safe to continue

Err, a Golf? Towing a Flatbed trailer (easy 600-700kg) with a Model A Ford on it (1050kg). Strikes me it wasn't overly safe to start the journey, never mind continue.

Not all trailers are that heavy and I’d bet a Golf is rated to tow at least 1500kg if it’s a reasonably modern one

Talking to one of the dads at school today. He bought a 1.9 diesel zafira from one of them can't get credit car places about 10 months ago. Tells me it's in the garage due to lots of smoke and stuff. Verdict is rings have gone and.other stuff so it's 3 grand for a rebuild or get another engine and swap for around 2 grand. He hasn't got a pot to piss in so is knackered. I think he said he pays £150.00 a month over five years for a 10 plate zafira with 98,000 miles on when he bought it. He thinks he may have a 12 month warranty but doesn't know. He said the salesman said it did but it isn't on the paperwork. Felt a bit last telling him how I had scrapped the primera and lost £150.00.

What a cack situation. Its things like that that can drop people seriously in the shit, he'll now be paying £150 a month until the end of time for something that's now worth about 40p. I think I'd be backing it into a suitably large bollard on that news.

I know. I seen him today and he has had the car for 14 months. So nearly four years to pay for a ornament. I also would be looking to make it disappear but he didn't take gap insurance and the insurance value is maybe £2,500 for a total loss. So fecked either way. To be fair he was so made up to get finance ,at a silly rate. That he never really asked about the small details. Myself I would be handing it back to the finance company and sorting a payment plan on the outstanding balance.
