Rover man is coming to view the Volvo in an hour - out of the blue Old Man said he's willing to store the Volvo on the drive on SORN while the Rover sells, if he wants it as he's a known good buyer. I'll know later what happens but collectionage may occur tomorrow.

That could be a good result.

As the weather was nice I decided to take the van down to the in laws and swap it with the Rover that's been in their garage since October as i want to get it home and ready for the summer.

This is the first time I've had both cars together.

The brakes were stuck on a bit and the power steering was very heavy to start with but it all soon cleared up and me and my oldest had a nice cruise back home in it, it got her seal of approval!

Ongoing saga of selling old house/ buying somewhere new.

Been to view a very large house at the top of our budget that needs more work than I expected and has no garage.

It's still on bakelite electrics.

Tempting to keep the bakelite.

Don't know about the UK , but period fittings are sought after over here. You can get modern reproductions with all the CE, NF markings but they're freaking expensive.

I'd say keep them but make sure the wiring to them isn't shit.

I'm fitting a charge point for a Tesla tomorrow at a clients holiday home.

He's always claimed he is skint...

I'm going to try and blag a go in it :)

We should do age-related calendars......Start off with 1984.   Trigger's in-and-out picture represents a Friday evening in March of that year.   Ken Brickwell, director of a small local building company riding out a brief house-building boom has taken advantage of an extra hour of daylight to polish up the Ital after a week of site-checking and wage pay-outs.   The Rover is ready to take out Mrs Brickwell to a Round Table dinner where he hopes to network another small contract off the back of Taylor Woodrow.

But, but, but....

That would restrict us to merely two calendars after this one.

My base Mondeo was built in Ghent on this day in 1993, so exactly 25 years old today...here's a #throwback to the day I first drove it just over 2 years ago.

Yeah, I think it'll need a full rewire. Unfortunately I know no electricians in Cardiff, so have no friendly sparky willing to cater to my whims and save the bakelite fittings.

Taken BGD out for a run to see if the warning lights were behaving (yes they are   :)   ) and thought I'd better get somemore LHM as it is supposed to have 2 bottles in the boot along with the special adaptor to fit into the oil tanks on this thing. No one seems to stock it other than Halfords and by the cringe, it's fookin' expensive gear ain't it!?  £13 before discount card but I bought some Autoglym stuff as well so the bill was £14 which cheered me up.

The rev counter is currently behaving as well so I have nothing to whinge about with it.... it will never last !   :)

I’ll happily give it a run up to north wales at the weekend if you want to give it some exercise;-)

It;s going to snow again apparently (not this weekend but...) but even though you are rich beyond measure, this things fuel consumption would test anyones 'Gold Card'!

Tempting to keep the bakelite.

Moved into an old (1895) place a couple of weeks back and had it rewired because pretty much all the switches were Bakelite and the wire insulation vulcanised rubber. We've retained the old switches wherever possible or bought refurbed ones (from eBay). Makes a real visual difference.

Finding a spark was a hassle though. Rang six and only two returned calls, and one of them told me he was about to have an op putting him out of action for 6 months. I'd normally get three quotes but the final bloke showed up when he said he would, got a quote out quick, the price seemed reasonable and he did a good job.

Now, to find a plumber...

Well if you change your mind, I’m happy to help :-)

Mercedes dealer not called back from Saturday, main local guy I’ve not heard back from for a month, and second local merc guy recommended by the paint shop not called either. How hard is it to give people £1000 these days!?

The bloody car is stuck in the barn until it’s fixed. Just feeling extremely grumpy and depressed ( on national happy day or something) as I need to go to my grandads funeral on Monday. If I don’t hear from the merc dealer tomorrow I’ll be in touch with the Citroen garage to do the work.

Sorry to hear about your grandad, I'm about to lose my last grandparent too. His last days.

Thanks, still a shock, as although he was long term ill ( ICD device, several bypasses and lung cancer ) it was a simple chest infection that did it. Anyway, as is my lot in life I’m up to wrexham to be a pall bearer. My life seems to be six funerals and two weddings recently. Depressed? Hell yes.

Alas he thinks it's too salty and has left to 'think about it', no numbers were mentioned (I'd have accepted 800)...

The bloke from Newcastle is coming down next Tuesday, he said he'd seen my posts on the VOC forum so knows absolutely everything about the car which is good. I'm tempted to view the Prelude I want sooner and maybe leave a deposit in anticipation but I'm not sure. It's in Blackburn...

Further development, going to look at it tomorrow. The mild seep from the Volvo's rad is leaking quite badly now (pipe butchery to fit a gearbox cooler in 1997) so it may be being sold slowly if my interested party doesn't go for it. Parents are keen on the Prelude (Old Man had a later one a while ago, same mechanicals in a different body) and generally likes Hondas, and the mother is keen based on previous experience. It's looking good. Seems they want me to have it.

Would it be toooo cheeky to ask how much that cost?

Quite a nice and lucky save, these would have become cardboard and bog roll otherwise.

Not at all. PM me for the full breakdown.

I'm not sure driving someone else's very expensive car would be good for my nerves!

Been scrolling through DaveSpencer32's videos on YouTube, some superb stuff in there. He's clearly a bus and lorry fanatic and has 30 years worth of clips up on his YouTube page. I've been firing in registrations into the DVLA website all morning and so far I've only found 2 cars that are still taxed and MOT'd today.

They are from this video and are oddly enough both in the same shot! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtvCU4c-lbs&t=95s

I love finding stuff like this, it's perhaps a little unsurprising to see that two 4X4 cars that were clearly built to last are still chugging away some 22 years later but it's still nice to think that they are still cared for and maintained.

Had to dismantle my angle grinder that died after 3 seconds of use. Turns out one of the neutral cables was fouling the mechanism inside and had been severed instantly once the machine ran, proof that you shouldn't get a Chinese child to do a man's job.

In all seriousness all that is stopping the cables flopping about inside is the fact they are loosely wrapped around some plastic pegs. Do not like.

Check the rear arches! If it's an auto, make sure the gears shift nicely and that the torque converter locks up at 52. Best steering EVER.
