Practical classics, I have had the mag for years but Sam Glover’s gloating about ripping off some poor Russian has really pissed me off. Get a good deal yes, but bullshiting someone to get something for next to nothing, no. Shitty trick to me.

Doesn’t sound like him. Perhaps he will be along sometime to explain.

As to MYGlaren which Feynman book? Physics or anecdotes?

I was surprised as well to be honest. But what he was saying was that they had effectively convinced the guy the car wasn’t genuine and was only good for spares. If I get a chance I will stick some quotes up from the articles.

Barter books? I've spent a couple of hours there.

I'm with Terry Pratchett when it comes to libraries and good bookshops they are basically time machines, you step in you spend a short amount of time and possibly some money then step out hours later....

Now the clocks have changed and the evenings are drawing in, I’m started to get really hacked off with motion sensor light switches.

Despite the sensor being reasonably close to me, it can’t “see” me typing, answering the phone or writing on my desk, so every 12 minutes I have to get up and dance for my light giving master.

Oh lordy, I had that game in our "new" office at my old job. Got to the point I just took my own desk light in as I got fed up of the minute round trip to the nearest sensor.

Used to scare the hell out of people by ignoring the fact the lights had gone out as I'm quite happy to touch type...that ability seemed to confuse my coworkers.

My ex-manager died this morning. 42. Brain tumour.

Gutted is an understatement. We might not have seen eye to eye when I left the company a year and a half ago but he was a great man who played a pivotal role in building my career, served his country for 22 years and leaves behind two young children who are an absolute credit to him :(.

Funeral is on Friday and I will definitely be there. Properly torn up by the news still if I’m honest.

*sad face* a lighting forum iv been on since 2011 is closing down it seems  :-(

https://www.allthingslighting.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=3721

sadly im not all that surprised, there was a couple big falling out between members and as such activity on the forum had taken a bit of a nose dive, but the forum and its gallery contained lots of good lighting history, info and pictures so it will be sad to see it go,

(im going to see if I can get a dump of all the pictures i uploaded at least.)

I know the feeling. I was up at 2am yesterday. Still, I had a lie in today. 3.40am when I got up.

I have been up since 2. However I did go to bed at 8 last night so have had a few hours kip.

Today will be fun. Had a bad day on the old mental health front, triggered by a trip to hospital. Two very minor things happened. Was about to be served by the pharmacist when a woman yells “how much is this?” Holding up a tube of lip balm or whatever. Pharmacist then walks over to the woman, starts a discussion about lip moisturising, makes some recommendations and then brings the woman back to the till while I was standing there to serve her. I pointed out that I was there first, but the pharmacist just looked at me and said “I don’t think so”

That annoyed me. As I say, minor thing but it got my goat.

Next up, popped into M&S next door to get something for dinner. I was starving so wanted to buy a sandwich, Mrs P couldn’t understand why I couldn’t wait until dinner so explained i hadnt eaten all day. So she had a pop at me about that. The shop was small, staff had left cages on the shop floor, it was busy and I just generally felt harassed. Everywhere i tried to stand to get out of the way was somewhere where someone needed to be so I was just playing dodgems with people while waiting for Mrs P and Parkette to choose between two similar things.

I don’t have patience in shops. I don’t browse or look around, I go, i select, I pay and I leave.

The drive home took ages because someone had broken down at the entrance to the Dartford Tunnel so the traffic wombles closed all lanes while they recovered the car which took 15 minutes and then another breakdown caused chaos nearer to home. A ten minute drive took ninety. Shit happens but I wasn’t in the right frame of mind.

Got home, had dinner, got moaned at for being in a bad mood, went to bed early as thought it was safer to walk away from a situation which had the potential to escalate. Sensible strategy? I think it was but no doubt Mrs P won’t see it that way.

Taking my own lamp is a really good idea!! It’s very distracting to jump up and down all evening. I don’t mind touch typing in the dark, I just worry about the eye strain if I sit for a couple of hours tapping away without any lights

I ended up watching hour or so of YouTube after popping on here for a moan.

Got to sleep at about 4am.

It's a thing I go through every now again, god knows why.

Don't sweat it, sometimes I find I feel better on minimal sleep. The '8 hours a night' concept is, as far as I'm concerned bollocks.

Put your feet up & go to sleep every time it goes dark & when it's mentioned say it's a natural instinct which you can't over come. Or pretend to fall over something walking to the sensor & claim several grand compo & a few months off.

My sleep pattern is all over the place, don't sleep for days then fall asleep early (last night - afternoon, I fell asleep at about 4) and wake up days later! I actually slept for 14 hours and got up at 6:00 am today.

Feel really MUCH better for a decent quantity of kip, only woke up when the mutts requested a trip outside for a pee/Jumbone and then straight back to sleep.

Contact your HR dept and ask for a DSE assessment  ( http://www.hse.gov.uk/msd/dse/assessment.htm )

They'll get you to fill in something like this  ( http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/ck1.pdf )

On page 8 of 10 fill in the bit  ( Is the lighting suitable, eg not too bright or too dim to work comfortably? ) with your lack of photon issues and return the form.

In absolutely public places, sure. In an office environment? If you can train a dog to do it, you should be able to find people who know how to switch a light on and off, if not, train them or put a sign. If they leave the lights on, have words. If they still do, have more words.

Mind you, our kids like to leave the lights on, no matter how many times I ask them to switch them off. My answer? Fit lights that are really cheap to run. The LED lamps they have now are 4.3 Watts. Compared to the TV set that they absolutely must have on its minimal though, and running the air conditioner dwarfs that usage, too...

But, in an office the only automatic light needs to be on the outside of the building.

I was surprised though the other day, at a restaurant we visited there were some automatic lights in the toilets, and several sensors had been put up above the stalls so you could go in to take a crap without the damn lights going off.

Years ago I worked in an office with sensors on the lights, fine when plenty of people were in, but no use when I had to go back in late to do somebody else's job (I was covering for a colleague on long term sick, was supposed to be paid for it but that's another matter). I took my own desk lamp in, did feel a bit Bob Cratchitt sat in a corner of a dark office. It also meant that I couldn't see what the dogs were doing (I used to take my Spaniels in for company) I did catch one of them eating the sugar out of the sugar bowl, didn't bother me as I don't take sugar.

Compared to most of the gibbering morons on youtube you could be an improvement.

I don't do broadcasting any more for a reason.

A letter from Specsavers to make an appointment.

I was there yesterday for my appointment, had to terminate before I saw anyone due to excessive amounts of pongy stuff.

Bill from Northumbrian Water for £250 - only owned the house for five weeks :(

Trying to contact them is almost impossible.

Last year I worked in an office with auto-lights.

One time as the dark nights had closed in, there were 5 of us working away and the lights went off.

Nobody moved and then someone came into the office, and we all shouted "surprise"

Oh how we laughed. He almost had a heart attack.

Strangely we had to get the key from security, in the morning and could see when it had last been used, and if you got there first at 6 am the lights were always on. Some sort of ghost I reckon.

Minor grump.  Got a cold and a bad back and find that there's no milk.  Simple, I'll just hop in the car and drive to the shop, job done.  Car won't start.  Battery on car nearly flat and still won't start.  Jump leads won't reach the other car and the other car is boxed in.  Because of bad back, I can't push non-starting car out of the way which I'd need to do to free boxed-in car because otherwise I'll block up the whole street with non-starting car.  Princess was doing so well at being in my good books lately too.  So well.  Oh well.
