Like many of us, I've made some comically bad car choices over the years, but this one is probably the worst.

PXL_20251027_122734469.jpg.03e5c9b5c6a98fc6f0cfd8df88e2f32c.jpg

The amount of money I may as well have set fire to makes me quite annoyed. I should have known better, I certainly could have bought better but no, as per, I buy the shit heap dressed up as a nice car.

I doubt these items will ever be worth anything but they were saved anyway.

I'm so sick of buying cars now. I'm lucky the ex HMC Micra is mine as it's been a trooper with this Delta fiasco. It's doing 48mpg average which is really good for a 30 year old car with 55hp. I do have a Delta replacement lined up, but the size of it is making me feel queasy and I've been lucky to find K11 sized parking spots at 2am lately.

Ditto. It's why I'm still on my 330i E90 and Z4 E89 with no appetite to change them unless they stupendously nuke themselves. Quick, comfortable, quiet, CAZ compliant, handle well enough and don't bing bong all the time because it doesn't like how you're driving like a modern car...

While the 20mpg to 30mpg isn't the cheapest thing, no depreciation and invariably changing cars ends up costing a lot from unexpected failure to previous deferred maintenance.

What was the reason for scrapping it (I assume)? It still had MOT and was driveable right?

A nice spot to dip my bread in soup after a blustery, drizzly walk along the front and around town. Sea was choppy and the 'lingo is covered in salt. Made me glad I don't own a transit anymore and also mindful to attend to where the sealing has picked up damage underneath. Is coming the season of filth.

Done an airbag reprogram on a lads megane mk3 250 on Sunday. The car previously had recaro seats and was refitted with normal leather so needed the config changing to suit.

This is not possible via usual dealer software so used Renolink.20251026_115343.jpg.fbc6c88d5d901553eb3a21d71e1b6a79.jpg20251026_115622.jpg.eb7cc49d1d531159267a74d88e11a7ef.jpg

After being sat for a week while we went on holiday, the year old gremlins have starved to death and the radio now magically works by itself in the basey McBaseface Octavia.

i am now amusing myself with an ongoing game of Russian roulette as one of the radio buttons must have been the trigger for it to stop working but I I’m trying to avoid pressing them…

it’s also so delightfully bereft of specification that it doesn’t even have a fader option…

If I'm not very much mistaken, this esteemed forum celebrated its 20th birthday within the last few days.  Electric Leyland, the original founder, joined the forum on 24th October 2005 - I assume that's when the forum was set up.

20 years ago seems impossibly distant to me now. Two of my current cars which I bought from this very forum were only a year old and still expensive and one wouldn't be built for another 3 years! Who would have thought, as we read about our £500 MOT'd Maxis, Renault 9s and even an occasional Rootes Arrow that we'd be buying brand new* executive cars in 20 years!

Should you ever meet your heroes?

I turned 40 last week (which means I was only 20 when the forum was launched 😳😳) and for this milestone Mrs_Brownnova arranged the hiring of a Jaguar E-Type as my all time number 1 car. IMG_1725.jpeg.aded63c651abd282128ea2ad50edb556.jpegIMG_1748.jpeg.836ac1f6b391c70ff6315b670b6ebb62.jpeg

Ye gads what an exceptional automobile this is! A challenge through traffic-y Gosforth with the choke on but once on the open road this is truly one of the greatest cars I have ever driven.

Frankly, A 55 year old car should not keep up as well with 2025 traffic, and it just oozes power and smoothness. When ‘they’ say you could nip to lunch in Monaco in one, I totally see what they’re saying after my 100 miles in one. I can see why @Six-cylinder likes his so much!

 Massive off the bucket list!

Plus… the Northumbria roads are stunning!!!

I have owned mine since before you were born then!

1966 pure Series 1, but a 4.2 instead of the launch 3.8.

Just 15 years for me, but I did lurk for a year or so before that.

Happy 20th to the forum.   I joined 11 years and a few days ago.

Happy 40th @brownnova .   My birthday was last week as well  (76).  No E type drive for me, but a bottle of Burgundy from my daughter will keep me lubricated for several  weeks at a swig per evening.

A useless observation: The E type you drove has a registration quite close to that of my first motorcycle of more than 50cc, a 1971 CZ 175, bought brand new for £166 in Lincoln. Reg was MFE476J.

fun* fact the Last Invacar in Ministry Service was withdrawn only just over a year before the founding of this forum, on the 14th of October 2004, bit surreal (for me at least) to think Autoshite and Invacars almost overlap like that :)

Obviously this is all a figment of my warped imagination because you can’t buy anything worth having for under £1000 (!)

Thanks to @Spottedlaurelfor keeping it warm between my two bouts of ownership.
