bunglebus
Don't know why charity shops have taken to bagging up toys in groups, but £1 netted me this 1982 Dodge Commando in Pepsi livery 20190731_120617 by RS, on Flickr And a Transit I didn't really want 20190731_120637 by RS, on Flickr Burnside, Datsuncog, Sudsprint and 1 other
sierraman
I think they bag up the shit stuff with the decent so they don’t end up with a box full of ‘teamster’ or whatever the hell that crap they sell in Poundland is.

Datsuncog
Friday tat, anyone? Thin pickings again today, I'm afraid - most of the stall was given over to branded bar memorabilia, so the rightful spots for diecast tat had been usurped by Bells Whisky ice buckets, Tennents beer jugs and Stolichnaya ashtrays. Disgraceful. However, it seemed to be doing a roaring trade at 8.30a.m, with the stall busier than I'd ever seen it... so clearly Market Blokey's on to a winner here. So for lovers of small chipped cars, rather than small chipped whisky jugs, this was all there was... Most of these have appeared before, though I thought the lethally sharp Tri-ang trucks had either been sold or else confiscated by Public Health a few weeks ago. Not a lot to get overly excited about, to be fair - though this was a bit unusual: Not a bad 1/43-ish rendering of a Freightliner FLA, and although I couldn't find a maker's name on it, the baseplate was stamped 'Made in Singapore'. A heavy model too, mostly diecast throughout. Pity the front bumper had gone missing, though. The 50p tat box hadn't changed, and as per previous weeks was overflowing with unwanted 1980s Corgi truck trailers. I didn't waste my pixels, sorry! I did, however, grab this in my hot little hands, having fought my way through a roving band of wee Belfast women eager to secure boxes of Coca-Cola branded glasses... It is, of course, an Atlas reproduction of a French Dinky - made by Norev, licenced from Mattel - but it's nice. I actually disposed of a Minichamps rendering of an Opel Rekord A only last year, but this one somehow appealed to me... I think this Dinky casting somewhat flatters the Rekord A's lines, making it look less slab-sided with a too-small glass area than its real-life counterpart. The Minichamps version, on the other hand, went the other way and seemed to accentuate the slightly skewy proportions, which I think is why it never quite gelled with me. Also, it had whitewall tyres - and I really dislike whitewall tyres, for some insane reason. The box art is very attractive too. This is the fourth repro French Dinky I've picked up from the stall; sadly it was also the most expensive at a tenner... perhaps he's now seen how much these fetch on eBay. But I do rather like this one. Amishtat, egg, eddyramrod and 3 others
155V6
What's he asking for the transporter,& does it have it's rear loading ramp? Datsuncog
Datsuncog
Not sure what he's after - he was so busy accepting pound coins from a flotilla of old biddies that I could barely get his attention for the Opel... at a guess, based on the other stuff there, I'd say £5-10. I think it still had its loading ramp in place - I should have checked more carefully! I'll take a stroll over there in a minute and see if it's still there - if it's intact, have you an upper price in mind which I could haggle down to? Split_Pin
I think those Dinky repros are brilliant if they are priced at around £20 posted on ebay. They have opened the gates to me so I can own French and Spanish Dinky cars that I had only previously been able to drool over in my 'Toy Cars' book. Progress has been slow however, in the last 5 years I have only bought the R12 Gordini, Peugeot 204 and Ford Galaxie 500. I have had the Opel Diplomant, Renault 4 and 6 on my watch list for too long now! Datsuncog

Even the dog gave me one of those scornful/pitying looks. Phew! So it's not just me then. Whenever I get a old unlooked after model vehicle, I'll give a wipe with a lightly damp cloth, wipe it over then with Mer polish and then a dry microfiber towel. Sounds involved but it takes less than a minute. Amishtat and Split_Pin 1

I think that's exactly why I'm warming to them now, too - having forsworn collecting 'toys' in favour of accurate scale models (Minichamps, Vanguards), I've now spent the past eight or nine months accumulating Corgi, Dinky (repro) and Matchbox cars... ...and that may* be linked to finding a copy of said book in a charity shop last year. I also want a Dinky Renault R6 quite badly (even though I have a perfectly decent magazine partwork one by D'Agostini or IXO) - there is just something about them. Sausage5000
Does anyone remember a Matchbox series of cars that had weird 'hologramatic' wheels, that where reflective and shiny? I'm 99% sure they were Matchbox, and they came out late 80's. The car I had may have been a Renault concept (spider?), but I can't find any information anywhere or anything related to any Matchbox cars in the 80's having these wheels. I remember it as my bullshitting friend claimed to have a millionaire uncle who owned one of these cars in real life, and it even had the zany mirror wheels. And while we're at it - does anyone remember the emergency vehicles you could get (Matchbox again I'm sure of it), where you pushed it down against the wheels and a siren noise and lights came on?
