The grumpy thread

This is a politics topic in the grumpy thread.  Lots to be grumpy about in this thread today.

Ignoring all the arguing above, my current grump is that I've just had to process an order for a customer named Mr Benn, and now I have a certain theme tune stuck in my head as a result.

So I'm going to put it into all of your heads too. :D

I had real difficulty when I had a customer come into a bodyshop I was at, called Mr Doubtfire!

No I didn't believe it either 🤣

I used to work with a guy called Mr Christmas. I can’t remember his first name (it was 40 years ago) but I do remember he had a Lancia Delta (bog standard 1500).

I once had a customer on the phone called Lurleen Gravy.

I don't know why it's stuck with me for over twenty years now...

Maybe he was called Arthur.

My old Maths teacher was Mr Holder… first name Richard. But for some insane reason he went by Dick.

Genuinely….

Not enough kids had found out his first name. But he was a nice guy so I didn’t tell anyone.

Lazy political activists; tell us more?

I dislike Fosters lager. I don't think it has anything to do with fascism.

*edited * wrote racism when I meant to write fascism

The rise of the far right however? I do dislike that. It's vile and so are the people who buy into it.

I put it to you that what might be "driving people crazy" is a massive decline in living standards; pay and conditions and the lack of hope that comes with all that.

We then get a solution sold to us- one which blames all the above on brown people and small boats.

Perfect for those who are hard of thinking; or dare I say lazy...

That solution is sold to us by incredibly well funded political parties- one of which is a PLC.

Your responses to the extremely well written and considered challenges to your position appear incoherent. I wonder if this is the best place to share your views.

You're asking me to summarise way too much for a single forum post, but the "rise of the far right" isn't simply bad actors with exploitive narratives. Self described Leftwingers have for years been observing the Left has been losing the ability to argue on the facts instead relying on taboos to shut down debate. Academic Agent only this week did a good video highlighting this observation here, and Sargon/Carl Benjamin did a quicker summary of AA's video here

As with Russia/Ukraine, I'm not saying I necessarily support these positions but refusing to even listen to them "because they're just evil" simply means you can't understand why they even exist.

Please help me understand your post.

My understanding at this point is that there was a reply to it asking you about it's meaning.

A follow up question was asked to which you stated this:

"OK I'm saying whatever the need was that drove/drives religious ferver never went away, it was replaced with the cults of anti racism, anti fascism, "the science" and whatever else I've forgotten, and it wasn't an improvement."

What is interesting about the above statement is that you speak of anti-racist and anti-fascism as though they are cults.

I don't know what you mean by "the science".

I am probably not alone in my belief that there is no cogent argument to support your belief that anti-racism and anti-facism are cults.

Based on that alone- and I really do not have the time to analyse the whole discussion at the moment- makes me question your understanding of the word 'Rational'

They certainly act as cults. They have their sacred symbols, shibboleths and deities to which they build shrines and worship, sacrilegious antonyms which must be destroyed and cleansed. They have their own concepts of original sin (without redemption, I might add) and they mercilessly punish anyone who fails to show the correct devotion.

You're gonna have to quote them m8 because yours is the first I would say is anything that would meet even a mild attempt to understand what I'm trying to articulate.

Snipes, you lost that  last argument when you cited Carl Benjamin as a source.

Neema Parvini isn’t exactly well known for his balance either.  What was it he said about black people?  Professor of Heterodox Studies at a small, insular and entirely private University?  Sounds academically rigorous.

One of my favourite stories here.

A few years ago I did some freelance work for a couple of radio stations in the Channel Islands.  They were running a seminar sales programme, and invites were sent out to all business owners and key influencers across Jersey and Guernsey.  Essentially, you do a 20 minute presentation on the station and then ask them to advertise for the coming year.

One thing I always stress with folk - is the importance of getting people's names right.  You can destroy a lot of goodwill, credibility and rapport in just a couple of seconds if you don't heed this advice.  This is particularly important when dealing with French names, and when you're about to ask people to spend thousands of pounds with you.

Anyway - a week after the invites went out by post, one particular gentleman - Mr Le-Sauvage - got in touch to decline our invitation and suggest that we might like to update our records with the correct spelling of his name.  Curious to see what had happened, we checked the CRM database to see what he had been entered as.

Apparently, we'd been writing letters to a Mr Le Sausage.

Merry was a Christian name years ago. I have also known families with the surname Christmas

You're doing what they (and I) are saying the problem is but go ahead and take your "victory" lap if you think that means anything.

I actually knew two people called Merry (1m 1fm), but they weren’t related to Mr Christmas.

Here’s something you can all laugh at me about instead. I have a want for a particularly shit American car. I don’t know why, I have absolutely no reason to own one at all, but I’ve always said if one comes up reasonably priced, I’d buy it. One has come up. Obviously, this has happened while my bank account balance starts with a minus. Sake.

For reference, I’m 5 foot 8 and 9 stone wringing wet. I’d look such a prick driving this, but I don’t care.

Just received an email for a Christmas sale at frost restoration tools.

Prices have gone to "how much?!?" From their usual "HFM?!?!"

Nope, still not buying anything then...😱

As per Mrs Doyle...😁

In fairness it’s an 80s American car, you could mean ‘Go on..’ or you could mean ‘There’s cocaine in it’ and both will be correct  I’m sure!

I dunno whether this is a grin or a grump really. I've spent most of my adult life drinking a bit too much. Little and often. Two or three drinks most days. Very rarely drank any more than that but it's still not healthy.

Couple of months ago I just sort of stopped bothering. I feel a lot better for it, sleep better etc. I'd still have the odd couple at a weekend but I've barely touched a drop really.

Last night I went out in the camper. I had a pint of stout in the pub with my dinner - Got back to the van, settled down with my feet up in front of youtube and had a bottle of old peculiar followed by one of those small premixed gin and tonic cans that had been rattling about in the bottom of the fridge.

Woke up this morning at 6am with a stinking hangover.  Even a full english, two litres of pepsi and a handful of paracetamols have hardly touched it. It's now nearly 5pm and I've spent most of the day at work moping about getting nothing done because of my thick head!

I'm 40 in a couple of weeks - I think that's me and the beer done with.

Only thing I'd say to that @cobblers, I had a job with a well-known bookies, absolute shitshow, and a member of staff who would go out of her way to stitch me up.

I went to the docs, because stressed out of my box.

Dr " Do you smoke?"

Me " No"

Dr " do you drink?"

Me " yeah "

Dr " well for Christ's sake don't stop!" 🤣

Nextbase...

Beware of ordering stuff they say is in stock, but isnt, with no restocking date known.

This year, its the rear view camera  that goes with the 322, 422, and 522 that they will take your money for, but they dont have.

What a pain.

When did a can of Lynx become £6???? This was at Sainsbury's and it was less with a Nectar card but still and yes I probably shouldn't be buying Lynx at my age but that's another debate, anyway I went next door to Aldi and got a can of knock off Africa for 75 pence.

I found some 50's style pruners, rusted shut.

I've spent ages cleaning and freeing them off.

They're great, chop through almost anything, really sharp.

I found this out by chopping the top of my left hand index finger off😱

What a fucking Muppet!
