TBF I do think she has rather a lot on her plate and perhaps kid gloves from your side would be a more correct approach.

That is the approach that I have gone with for months now.

So... Dogs been escaping the garden, jumping straight over the wall and onto someone's shed roof on the allotment.

We didn't realise.. but she must have been doing it for yonks and just letting herself back in. She chased a cockerel up the road the other morning so today I set about fixing the gaps where she's getting out. Spent two hours in the pissing rain going round the perimeter and bodging all sorts of mesh in the various holes.

Here's a picture I took once it was done, after slapping the mesh and saying to myself "she's going nowhere".

image.jpeg.49959c01f13cabcf86b6765a13ad7add.jpeg

I turned my back for a few seconds and walked back up to the house. Turned back round and she was nowhere to be found!

Thank fuck she's got a GPS tracker on -  she was already nearly half a mile away, she'd jumped 5 or 6 more dry stone walls and had fucked off, presumably chasing all the dopey pheasants round the fields

image.png.912348838477e9ece8bafe67f749a5c5.png

Our house is bottom left on the map.

I pelted down the lane and she came straight to me when I shouted her from a few fields away, but I just don't know what we're going to do with this bloody dog. I walk her two hours every day, play games with her, and she's got nearly an acre of garden to roam around but it's just not enough...

I am going to say what everyone else is thinking...

What is at the centre of all the routes!?!

Swear that I've watched to many strangers things.

Our dooje keeps escaping and shitting in the neighbours garden. I can't stop him. I have conversations with the neighbours family about this to see what they know and they are convinced that foxes are responsible. So we'll keep it at that.

Can you get one of those kits and make your own @IronStar?

Probably, but when you account for the delays, the fact that I need to import the kit as well, and that I need 8 of the bloody things, I'm not sure I'd be saving much if anything.

Make that a double car grump for today - rim on the Bravo is bent in the centre. I really like them and they’re special edition wheels so it’s getting fixed, but I really would’ve preferred not to spend time and money on this.

Fucking cars, eh?

Yes you can. Lock the bloody thing indoors. Take some responsibility!

Staff at my place:

Massive 3 phase paint booth extractor fan that makes a massive racket, costs £2.50 an hour to run and pulls all the cold air in from outside? Definitely leave that going all fucking day whether there's something being painted or not. Then mither that it's cold in the paint room.

Bathroom light (and extractor fan)?  Under no circumstances would you ever leave it on! especially not after doing a banging shite so the stink just wafts out of the open door and fills the entire unit.

"Oh I didn't want to waste electricity" 🙄

surely the solution* is to install a massive diverter valve (say activated by a microswitch on the toilet seat) so any time someone goes for a shite, the paint booth extractor gets plumbed into the bathroom instead? :D

*Goes to take a shit, puts arse on seat*

*sudden click clunk of a massive contactor and 3 phase motor-fan spooling up*

Despite this being the grumpy thread, I’ve enjoyed hearing about all the Jehovahs Witness repelling techniques.

I’ve found ‘My dad is an ordained reader in the Church of England, do you want to talk to him?’, works quite well.

They seem quite shy of talking to anyone associated with an ‘mainstream’ religion, maybe deep down they knew they’ll get caught out on an obscure bit of doctrine.

It is a cult.  Pure and simple.  I was dating a girl who left when her best friend was left to die by her husband; her odds of survival were very strong with a simple blood transfusion.  Alas - you can all work out what happened next.  Having left the 'Kingdom Hall' or whatever, she lost her siblings her Mum her Dad and other friends.  Her definition of it was a cult; as you couldn't leave without losing everything.

Nonetheless, I would still be polite to Johos who turned up on my door.  I'm not going to change their thinking any more than they will mine - so why bother creating heat? I have this suspicion that folk who get hard and start shouting at folk with what they think are clever witticisms are actually impotent in every single other aspect of their life.  That single opportunity to feel big is irresistible, right?

A family friend who is a Church of Scotland Minister invited them in one time and said it was the most fun he'd had without a pint in one hand and a set of arrows in the other.

Apparently they never knocked on his door again.

Reading comments New pod has made over the years, it's just more of the same, just worse. I appreciate she's ill, but why do it to yourself. Life is too short to put up with being treated like crap for years on end

I hate to say it, but from what I see, you're right.  I've been on here for years now and I've read so many posts about POD being verbally and emotionally abused by his wife that I suggested more than once he seek help.  I bet my boots if it was the other way round, he'd have been locked up by now.

Then again, whenever I try and help or advise anyone either online or in real life it either gets ignored or spat back in my face.

The couple of times they've come to me, I've just said "No, thank you, I'm just not interested"

I think that's what most people do in reality

A bloke I know got out. He was abused as a kid by some senior member of the JWs (and knew plenty who were). In his early forties he got out, losing contact with his wife and two teenage kids. He lost his job, his house, most of his friends and all his family. He had to start a new life with nothing but the clothes he was wearing when he announced he was leaving, the £60 he had in his wallet and a bed for a few nights at a charity who help out ex JWs.

Spends much of his life doing what he can save his kids from it. Last I heard, he was fighting to stop his super bright 13 year old daughter being taken out of mainstream education. A very deeply unhappy man driven close to suicide - he desperately regrets leaving, but only because he can now longer protect his kids from inside the club. His younger brother offed himself about ten years ago after finding his daughter had been abused by the same guy that abused them both as kids.

My old workplace moved into a building that was an ex JW church. One of the delivery drivers would leave the parcels on the doorstep and refused to come in because of the things that happened to him there. Eventually he asked to be moved to a different round.

When JWs come to our door, my wife will give them both barrels about how the cult ruins peoples lives etc, she'll spend ages. It doesn't do her any favours, it doesn't change anyone's mind. She just gets wound up.

I've got to ask, because it's hard to imagine what could possibly happen to someone who was just calling by to deliver a package.

As a delivery driver I've been thoroughly love-bombed by a cult in Devon, and had cake practically forced on me by overzealous Church of England old ladies, but I can't say I've ever experienced anything that made me traumatised...

Sorry,  should have been clearer.. I presume the bloke was an ex JW, He moved away from the area when he left the church, but he ended doing a delivery route back where he grew up

I'm supposed to be going to a gig at Nottingham motorpoint on Saturday night with MK1 son

Because reasons, the only available premier inn (his preference) is the A1 one at Grantham, about 1/2 hour drive.

So we thought we'd look at alternative ways of getting to and from.

Trams? Yeah there's a stop nearby (lace market) and the trams run till after midnight.

Ok, park and ride it in them?

Nope, it's Saturday night, when all good folk should be in bed by half eight.

The PnR closes on a Saturday at 8.30!

Ok, so Grantham and Nottingham are on the same line, and motorpoint is near Nottingham station, we'll go by train.

The last train from Nottingham to Grantham is at 21.41!

Really? On a Saturday night?

The band ( Sabaton) don't come on till 9.30..

Looks like it'll be his RRC then.

" Why don't more people use public transport???"🤬

There's a deal on for weekend parking at Broad Marsh car park which is not too far from Motorpoint at the minute - £4.50 all day as long as you're out by midnight. It's where I normally park if I am lazy/can't be bothered to get the bus.

Top tip: tap your card once on the reader on the way in, tap it twice on the way out (once to detect, once to pay) and you can walk straight past all the idiots who don't realise this and are queuing to pay at the payment machines!

We live in Donington and find that the bands playing Nottingham normally play Sheffield as well. The journey doen't take much longer and it's much easier to park at the gig. The last time we did Motorpoint was for Russell Brand. We caught the bus in & took a taxi home.

Whenever I read stuff like this, it makes me wonder why in the US, the FBI and others always leap to shut down any dodgy-looking cult (Branch Davidians and so on)...and yet they won't lay a finger on the Scientologists.  (If you read about Scientology, it is REALLY fucking disturbing.)

I'm not surprised and one can really wonder why JW hasn't been banned. In Norway, they have received financial support from the state like other religious communities, this was tried to be removed but there have been several rounds in court and I don't know how it is now. But it is absolutely terrible that our tax money should go to them. It is scary that JW is exist and that the state is allowing it to exist.

A previous boss I had was JW and he is one of the worst people I have ever met.

If anybody has a bit of time and wants to really get under the skin of Scientology, I would strongly recommend Jenna Miscaviage's book 'Beyond Belief: My Secret Life Inside Scientology and My Harrowing Escape':

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Beyond-Belief-Secret-Scientology-Harrowing/dp/0062248480

There is an audio book available.

She was a true 'insider' as the niece of David Miscaviage.  David Miscaviage is the current leader of Scientology.

Jenna was brought up in the cult and spent much of her childhood in various Scientology-owned facilities.  At times, the children that were brought up were taken away from their families (including their parents) for years at a time.  She was encouraged to sign a 'Billion-year Contract' with the premise being that her immortal soul belonged to Scientology for a Billion years.  From memory, she was seven or eight.  Then encouraged into the 'Sea Org' as a teenager (the highest ranking part of Scientology).

The abuse and control of the adults was horrific.  The children doubly so.  Locked into buildings at night so they couldn't leave, with security perimeters around the compounds.  Brainwashing into believing the most bizarre things.

I'll also add in that nobody has seen David Miscaviage's wife Shelly Miscaviage since she mysteriously disappeared from public life in 2007 and there hasn't been a significant investigation - as to why we can only speculate.

This is why I refuse to watch any Tom Cruise films, or other media when I'm aware that there is a Scientologist involved.

As an add on 'Blown for Good' by Marc Headley is also a great read.  It's a different perspective and also has some interesting things to say about Tom Cruise...
