it’s just too bloody cold tonight

yes I know the clock is wrong

Oooh I've got the same controller! Next year I want to get 2 switchbots and control it all through home assistant and have it do no timing at all.

Every thought of wafting a spray of elbow grease over that? 🧐😬

Ditto - last one died on Christmas Eve, Mr, Ebay and RM had me a replacement by 27th December and it's just a case of two screws, unhinge front bit and drop the new bit on.

(or it would be if ours wasn't tiled up to such that the two bottom screws were inaccessible without a hammer and chisel, who does tiling like that)?

I've put one of these wireless thermostats on it which is handy as 99% of the time we use it to heat only our two 'offices' upstairs.

There’s a thing about certain parts of Scotland that calm my mind plus the ability to go and watch the water for five

Just pulled this bit put as I feel exactly the same. It has taken quite a lot of years to get to understand how much this makes a difference but now I can walk out of the house and five minutes later get this as my own personal therapy.

That was this morning's dog walk.

It will be worth the upheaval.

Rant away if it does help.

I'm up in Monifieth just east of Dundee so another who won't be too far away if you need anything. Fingers crossed for the next steps.

I regularly use the pay at pump at our local Sainsburys and they don't have any such policy. Or if they do it's out and back in my account so quickly that it doesn't show up on my account.

I really try to avoid Tesco at if at all possible for anything and this does nothing to change my opinion of them. I think if they were demanding £120 off me just for the pleasure of spending my money with them I would simply go somewhere else. I've been even more determined not to use them since they put the prices of everything up unless you have a club card and now you've made me even more determined.

Sainsbury's does exactly the same things. Reserving an amount on the card and discounts for Nectar card use

Usually the amount is very quickly given back to the card. This could be a bank or Mastercard delay rather than Tesco. Either way, Sainsbury's doesn't offer any advantage in this scenario

Okay, fair enough, I had no idea this happened, there's certainly no mention of it in my bank statements.

Crank sensors. Almost a service item, right?

Thanks VAG!

VAG are a pain in the arse for this. Had it on my 5 cylinder transporter last year, couldn't even see it, let alone put a spanner on it.

Garage had to remove a load of stuff and jack it off the engine mount apparently, poor design.

It won't show in your bank statements - usually it disappears in seconds.

Just sometimes it can be held up, as in this case. It won't show on the statement

it's inside a cupboard so i haven't really been too bothered

i will also say, it's probably the most common heating controller in the country

I vote bank issue. The few times I've used asda pay at pump Monzo has refunded the "hold" amount before I've even put my seat belt back on

Although they don't show in my history either, although the app notifies me

Nearly a grand at asda, how grim 😂

I should probably post it in that "life" thread, but I feel the same way @Inspector Morose  Not much seems to go my way, and for over a year now (September '23) I've been back at the family farm, barely able to hold down any job for more than a couple of months. Ended up here due to total stress-induced burnout. It's like my life has just been on pause this whole time.

But hey, at least the view from the top of the farmyard is good.

I can't offer lodgings but I'm in Aberdeenshire with lots of free time and a car that costs buttons to run, so I'll help however I can.

Money back in my account this morning, so all's well that ends well I suppose.  Still won't be using pay at pump in future though unless I absolutely have to.

Crank sensors. Almost a service item, right? I've had a few fail in me over the years, Corsa B and MK1 Megane spring to mind (both because my wife was there and not amused at the no- start 😂). Really easy to change, less than 5 minutes.

Not so on an Audi 4 cylinder TDi. I've potentially got this issue with the red A4 as it did a no-start on me yesterday. Just turned over as normal but wouldn't fire. The crank sensor is buried behind the oil filter housing and it's got to come off to get to it. As the oil cooler is integral with it, all the associated pipework has to come off too.

Thanks VAG!

At least the car is small enough that there's room around it to work on it in my garage.

It's a total bastard of a job on a MK3 golf too - you have to remove an engine mount and the starter motor and then pray that the crappy Allen boot doesn't round off

I only ever use cash to pay for petrol after a scamming twat at a BP garage helped himself to £100.

Had a night out in Edinburgh yesterday.

4 Huron riding idiots in the Cowgate, no lights, masks on, wheely-ing towards oncoming cars causing mayhem. 5 minutes later, same pricks in the Royal Mile, wrong side of the road again, riding over the corner of pavements to jump red lights.

Same for the Deliveroo/Just Eat delivery muppets on Ebikes with no lights and using their phones on busy city streets.

Need a crackdown on these un-touchables.

I’m paying extra in the long-term-storage garage for a parking spot which is bloody huge and has no sports to park next to it. On the one side, there’s access to some technical room, and on the other is a garage door of some flat. Sounds good, right? The great unwashed not having the possibility to keep slamming doors into your car while it’s in storage, for a bit extra. Oh hang on, what’s this on a not-a-parking then?

Dude who has door that goes into the garage decided to park there, because smol car and its owner not being around to police it. There’s no way in hell that door is not being opened into my car, as Fiat can barely fit despite a deceptive photo, especially if I store a bigger car there.

I’m paying for that you cunt, being temporarily vacated doesn’t mean you can claim it without asking!

I called my landlord, who’s really apologetic, plans to give him another bollocking, and offered me money back if the dude doesn’t fuck off, but something* tells me he doesn’t plan to stop.

What should I do? Accept the cuntish behavior? Park diagonally? Park a car that’s already bartered on his door and completely block it? Get the money back, accepting that won’t really buy me a parking I initially wanted? Something else? I’m worried that any retaliation will end up with my car keyed, with further consequences for everyone involved afterwards.

Can't you just put some random crap there so there's no room for cunt to park but still leave yourself enough room for the Mini?

Borrow Wheely Big Cheese from Robot Wars if it still exists anywhere and flip the thing over.

I can, but

a) That’s not a parking space, but anything lighter than a car he can move out the way

b) I’d block his door that you can see on the left on the first pic, which risks him keying the fuck out of my car(s)

Wheel skates, move cunt sideways(or backwards into the general thoroughfare), park; tea and medals.

In other, not directly related to me news - Hotel Yugoslavia, whose imminent demolition I’ve whined about here already is getting demolished. Because that’s not bad enough - it has about a tonne of asbestos in its construction, which wasn’t removed and not a single safety procedure is being followed. It’s windy in Belgrade these days. They are literally dumping a tonne of asbestos in the air. But apparently raising this as insanity and a health risk to everyone, and asking for the demolition to at least be done properly is a political issue and something that is to be buried because the company doing it has direct ties to heads of party in power.

Loving the ever increasing odds of death from avoidable things through the virtue of living here.

Put a bouncy castle in there or some other random object he wouldn’t expect. That would baffle him more than anything else lol

I suppose you could just start leaving "sorry I hit your car" notes on the Fiat.  You don't actually have to hit it, you just leave the note every time it's there.

CND truely does not give a fuck. Hazel spotted pikey truck dumped outside her house is lacking mot. Or to be more precise it's failed.

Do not drive until repaired (dangerous defects): Offside Front Suspension arm pin or bush likely to become detached (5.3.4 (a) (ii)

Use pikey 2 instead? Nah, fill the fucker with broken breeze blocks  and keep driving WCPGW?

I have to say I'm slightly disappointed - I saw jakebullet's name against the grumpy thread and was hoping for some more Mad Jean poetry as a Sunday treat.

Not much going on in Jean's world. Pervert photos (morris dancing etc), and confusion about the Facebook prompt (what's on your mind?).

What's on my mind is my business, what's on yours?

Don't ask such personal questions please.

This is my business only and nobody else's concern. No question to answer then thank you.

Jesus is on my mind.

Mad Jean is actually you on an alternative account isn't it ;)

As for the truck: go and phone 101.
