r.welfare
The only decent picture I have of the 405 is from the original eBay ad when I purchased it in February 2008 - it looks the same now, but with a set of GTX alloy wheels and a slight bumper alignment issue on the nearside. Since April this has been my only car, it's racked up about 18k in my ownership at an average of 45mpg, for a total ownership cost of just south of 30p/mile, thanks to replacement of a lot of worn-out mechanical parts. I'm hopeful that this figure will drop over time - basically I am going to keep hold of this until it either falls apart completely or explodes. On the flipside of the coin, my wife's Accord has now done 24k since we got it in July 2008, and what savings it makes over the 405 for repairs & maintenance it eats in fuel. The front shocks are beginning to weep and clunk around, so some Bilsteins will go on over the festive period. Looks suspiciously tidy in this picture, but has had lots of rattlecanning on the bumper corners and the interior is filthy.

I'm dying to finally have a go in the bloody thing. Not yet but I do now have new tank sender, in-tank pump, fuel damper unit and external pump so soon as i have the tank back in I should be able to get it running no problem. I have also got new panels apart from the RH front wing, new rear bumper and one new tail light... still on the lookout for the other. Oh, and the new Amil wheels. I won't be able to do the body and paint until next summer though as I have to finish my Violet and the van first.

AnthonyG
What a great selection of motors .As AS's resident 'Mondeo man' I have two, a 2007 Mk4 2.0 litre (the current shape one that's as big as a supertanker and less easy to park) and a 1999 1.8 LX Mk2, which is currently living at my parents on SORN, it breezed though an Mot in October. No pics available at present I'm afraid.Glad to hear you are at peace with the C4 John!PS what's up with the 'sick list' Granada Fred?
FredTransit
Stupid Ford design thermostat housing involving steel threads and ally housing. Will have to have it drilled out cos I can't find another one (even the spares engine bought for the timing cover didn't have one). Can't believe what replacing a water pump involves! I do miss driving her though.....
Richard
Can't believe what replacing a water pump involves! You should try changing the water pump on a 2.2 Douvrin engine.

Thanks I would very much love this, especially after someone let me drive his lovely blue R16 which kind of made me fall in love with them (well, ok, I liked them a lot anyway but the first date went well!). Sadly I've gone and got some other Rennershite which I need to sort first. Have you had it out of the barn for assessing yet Ed?

danthecapriman
heres my current fleet. 1985 Granada 2.8 ghia X. Ive had it a year and a half now, drove it for the first 6 months and loved every minute of it! It was unbeleivably rusty though. Most of the weldings now done, just a few little bits to go and then some electrical issues to sort then its MOT time. Heres a taste of how bad the rot was! Both front inner wings/ A posts were like this. Next up my 1974 Capri 1.6L and my 1987 Volvo 740 2.3 GLE. The capri was my first car and this too was well rotten when I got it. It needs some minor tidying up now but its a great car.The Volvo is my daily, 178K and drives as good as new, lovely car in every way. Finally, my 1999 Transit 190I love these, dont know why!? I dont need this at all but had to have it anyway! Its only done 80K. The astra in front of it is my sisters car, its a 1.6 arctic, P reg and has only done 63K from new! I do miss driving her though.....Mine did the same thing, pissed me off immensly when it broke! I drilled it out and found a spare bolt long enough to pass right through and put a washer and nut on, not quite as good as new but does the job and it wont cause problems again! The other two bolts came out fine so on reassembly I painted the threads with copper grease to try to stop it seizing again in future.
