What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Finally managed to get our bloody stupid piece of Sky garbage router to stay out of the darn way and let me connect to about ten machines here via SSH.

This makes me happy as admin now consists of logging directly in to the terminal from my desktop (or phone) rather than having to physically be at the machine...which being a stack of old laptops was rather awkward for those at the bottom of the stack.

The router is a piece of garbage, though has been pretty much reduced to the function of a modem now, I've got better hardware doing pretty much everything else.

It's a small grin, but makes me life a lot easier so I'll take it.

We fried ours. I built one instead! Next stop is caching everything so we can maximise our massive 27 megabits....

Saw two Subaru Rex today. One was a early, 1970s one. Sadly, they did what most Greeks do to their cars and modified it, with obvious Subaru WRC decals.

There's still a fair amount of shite here. Loads of stuff seems to have gone since last time though, so unsure whether scrapped or sold. I'm sick to the back teeth of late 80s and early 9s Sunny's now. They're on every bloody corner still. And Nivas.

I'm off to a part of the city I've not seen yet tomorrow. All for car photography. Sigh!

And I thought collies were intelligent.

My old Springer Spaniel was obsessed with ball and would go to great lengths to get someone to play, if dropping the ball in front of you didn't work she'd try throwing it at your. Eventually she'd try someone else, which sometimes meant her going off down the road to the workshop (slightly concerning as she didn't have much road sense and never worked out that if it was dark there'd be nobody there) There were also the times she'd try to get my sister's horse to play ball, not very successful as he would ignore the tennis ball, but would pick up her football and run off with it, teasing her by holding it up out of her reach.

I'd like to go after ours with a 4lb lump hammer. Biggest rage it caused me was when it decided to do a firmware update and wiped all the port forwarding rules.

Darn thing had me chasing my tail for the best part of a day when my web server lost contact with the outside world, I spent most of the day swearing at the computer in question (especially as the server back then was held together by toothpicks, duct tape and the power of prayer) - before eventually discovering the poor thing was totally innocent.

These days I've got a decent switch handling the wired side of things, a proper wireless access point bridging that side of things and providing way better wireless coverage than the Sky box of crap. Now it's basically just being a modem. I'll probably look at a better solution to that when it does actually die. Hopefully in my study rather than the master bedroom where it currently is. Most of the IT stuff is in there.

I really do need to tidy up the wired network cabling in the loft... it's a total bloody mess up there. Reckon that might well leave that be until such point as we get the air conditioning installed as I'll need to be routing a hell of a lot of pipework and cabling through the house for that anyway.

That's one job I'm both looking forward to and dreading in equal measure! Hoping that doing most of the physical work myself and just having it charged up and checked over by a refrigeration tech (I know a couple who owe me favours). It's just plumbing and wiring at the end of the day, and I've spent enough years messing around with HVAC stuff on two farms that it's not a technology that really holds any fear for me. ...just realise that because of where everything wants to go here that it's going to be a task that literally spans the *whole* house.

To be honest if it wasn't for all the red tape these days, I'd probably look to get my F-gas certification, I used to enjoy working on the refrigeration stuff. Was really interesting and I apparently had a knack for it.

I'd also do an alarm if you've got one. Recently got a new Scantronic 9600. I know it's 20 ish years old but solid as Jacob's Rock. A hobby of mine. One of the stranger ones.

I'm 23 today. :-)

I'm getting at least a shite-related hat, some new keys for the GTi, and a new wallet as mine is fucked and my cards keep falling out. There could be more, who knows. I'm going for a meal with my parents and seeing Bohemian Rhapsody, then I'm off out in the evening. I have a friend that can guestlist me for a club in the city and a couple of offers of places to sleep, so it's not a bad idea.

should be an alright day.

Having hesitated fatally on the 530D Touring, I'm staying well away from Cannock auctions today!

MHR, Maxwell  :)   I have vague recollections of being 23 at some point...
