Had a nice Ice Cream in Lyme Regis this afternoon today.

Parked next to a nice Sunbeam too.

But before all that, I did a thing this morning when my instructor said "one takeoff, circuit and landing - you're on your own!", then got out and buggered off.

So my mate got it of the original owner, he started changing the rear shocks in 1987, ballsed the job up and rather than getting help or taking it to the garage he just gave up with it and left it in his garage for the next 39 years, as you do.

I have some spoilers.

10 days before I was born 😂 09/09

Looks like it would minter up fairly easily... And you could cash in on the old school ford tax ready for some summer fun with something else?

That's kinda the plan, I'd love to get this sorted for the FotU in July but that's a tall order at the moment. My mate has made a blog on it on his website

https://ukbarnfinds.com/1982-ford-escort-1-3l-found-after-39-years-off-road/

My mate also has this in a barn that I've expressed an interest in too, I'm hoping to make it all work out as I really fancy the Cavalier, it's a 2.0 with a manual this time.

Don't do it, Cavalier 1's should only ever be red or white with an entirely red plastic and vinyl interior, including the steering wheel.

I disagree, love them in that colour, whatever it's called.

Getting to the reason for the traction spitting out coolant. I put a catch can on the end of the radiator expansion pipe and after going to work today it had pushed out 50ml. Runs fine. Headgasket fine . Radiator looks furred up though and presumably not cooling well.

Ive drained and flushed with a hose pipe today and have some coolant flush coming tomorrow.

Many thanks @davehedgehog31, this car was significantly undersold, its almost mint and drives faultlessley. Its perfect for Mrs_Pin she will love driving it (she's not back home yet!)

That does look rather furred up. If that flush doesn't sort it you might have to resort to something stronger, dishwasher tab or even Fernox?

Cheers for a painless sale Iain, I probably did characteristically undersell it but glad it's gone to a good home, hope you both enjoy it. Top buyer A+++

I think the colour is Orange Tan or Bright Copper Metallic.

Is it a GL or GLS?  Either way the interior trim will be beige velour, ribbed for your pleasure.

A friend had one that colour back in the day, it certainly wasn’t metallic. He had the lower half resprayed brown, it looked shit. Was a nice car otherwise.

Early days of metallics, I think. Had a sparkle to it.

Have to agree to disagree, BCM is very different, darker and metallic whereas as this isn’t. Ho hum, all part of the fun.

I guess it's Orange Tan then, none of them look particularly close.

I have a chainsaw course the next couple of days, and the Megane is still in the naughty corner. Best use the currently working car, then.

I love that. Before my time, but my Dad one in china blue with a 1.9. He had problems with the carb. By the time I came along he had traded it in for an Ascona Berlina that he put a twin choke Weber on.

We replaced the Solex on our Ascona 1.6 with a Weber with a manual choke.

Speaking of valeting, I had a spare hour this avvo to cut back the paint that got put down 7 months ago 🤣.

Gingernutzz gave me this Farcela G410 cutting compound and its done a splendid job. You can see the difference between the back and front door.

I didn't have time to polish the whole car but I did cut back the parts that has shrunk back as I was told they would. So the whole O/s, front bumper bonnet and boot were cut back and then polished with Autoglym SRP.

I've a fence to paint this evening but hopefully I can get back to it soon.

I noticed a post by someone on the Scottish Saab page who had just bought a Saab 95 Aero Hot and said they thought the turbo was toast. He didn't want to drive it in case it grenaded so I went to have a look as he was just 5 minutes up the road.

It was misfiring on hard boost and flicking on the EML. He had already found a lot of loose connections around the intake and tightened them up. Unsurprisingly the spark plugs were quite white, presumably from the fuel the ECU was trying to chuck in to keep the fueling right in the face of the huge amount of excess air it was drawing.

Armed with my Tech 2, the process of connection to the 9-5 is very different to the 9-3 but I got there. No codes.

We went for a drive and it absolutely went like the hammers of fuck with no issues at all (Noobtune booked for mine!)

He then said the puff of blue smoke was just on cold start up and I told him not to worry as it certainly wasnt smoking whilst driving. Its only on 100k.

Proclaimed fixed but if anything returns he will pop over and have another look.

He also had a dented alloy and couldn't find one. I thought they looked aftermarket and after searching under a couple of well known names I identified them as Team Dynamics and find him a set that came from an Astra G, so correct 5x110 bolt pattern and likely close enough offset.  Pleased with that bit of sleuthing 😂
