Low tyre pressure giving a different rolling radius and throwing all the nanny toys out if sync?

Thanks, I’ll check that tomorrow. I was guessing, as I had all the same lights come on on the Superb 3 years ago and it was ABS sensor. I hope you’re right, obviously!

It could also be battery related, the steering angle sensor shouldn’t be affected by an abs sensor usually.

Maybe but it starts quickly and easily, spinning over as fast as ever. It does have the “Park Assist” option, so can park itself, steering wise, so a speed sensor going wrong would surely affect this was my thinking.

Well, fuck.

Last year the 75 picked up a hoofing great dent in the sill presumably from a 2 post lift. It didn't matter as it was rotten anyway and it was all pristine once sorted.

Just noticed a small dent back in the same place but as it isn’t noticeable I just touched it in.

What I'd missed was that the back of the sill which was mint, has been bent right up, again presumably by a lift. Its been to 3 garages this year so who knows who it was.  A few years ago I noticed some flaking on the inner sill but a rub down and some paint and it was good.  Unfortunately this impact has exposed it as now being rotten.

Seems to be one thing after another with this thing at the moment. This is exactly what happened with the Corsa I had for years but my commitment kept me hoping that the next repair would be the last for a while - I hated that.  Another interesting car caught my eye and I eventually sold it and I kind of hope thats what will happen with this. Otherwise I'll just keep going.

It was on about 491300 at the end of play today, I've a job to north Wales tomorrow morning, that should put me on 491500. I really need to find time to service it over the bank holiday weekend, it was due at 490k.

I've been warned it's going to get very busy in May, so I might be able to get the 500k up sooner than I expected.

Shame about the sill. It's just another job added to the list you don't. I know how you feel.

Photo, though, reminds me of Wilfred from the Bash Street Kids:

Is the one that came out a standard double-DIN unit or something oddball?  I ask because I've designs of making a double-DIN setup (hidden behind a nice wooden door so it's invisible when not in use) and some random tat would be useful as a victim for testing purposes before I actually buy a decent head unit once I've ascertained the project has legs.  So if you wanted to sell it on I may well be interested.

That is an impressive amount of spaghetti you evicted!

I've had a dig around our caravan that was loaded with stuff from the loft from our last house move then got parked at my sons house and forgotten about for a couple of years.

Nine quid for a beige Allegro I was robbed.

Thinking this through all my model cars were packed away for a house move in 2001 and stayed in the loft of the next two houses until I settled here in 2023 before being unpacked again recently.

I bought most of them in the nineties explaining the Damon Hill F1 cars and the Accord Touring car model and I was massively into Bond bugs/3 wheelers back then too.

My favourite print also got misplaced for a couple of decades but this I found straight away when I moved here and gave it pride of place in the down stairs loo so guests can admire it too.

It's been a while since I last posted here, hope all are keeping well.

Life has been busy (Namely work, and then marriage). BUT, it gave us the opportunity to have 3 weeks away, and we decided on a trip in the car (Shock horror)

We've been fortunate enough to holiday at 'traditional' honeymoon destinations in the past, so decided a road trip far away. In this case, Greece. I'l keep it relevant to this, so the car that took us and my thoughts on the drive.

Our route was Home-Reims-Lucerne-San Marino-Bari(Ferry)-Athens-Bari-Venice-Berchtesgaden-Erfurt-Cologne-Bruges-Home.

Having done it a few times, most of 'western' Europe feels normal. Northern Italy does, too. However once south of Rome it suddenly feels quite far from home. Not to mention that we had a detour as the A14 was closed. Why? A landslide damaged the road. We managed to divert well enough, bar one small issue that I will detail later. Greece feels VERY far from home, so I was more cautious than usual. Otherwise it's easy to drive in, and traffic was light, even in Athens.

Waiting for the ferry at the port of Patras. MUCH stricter migrant control than Calais/HvH, they search every vehicle. Then you're free in the port.

IMG_9337.jpeg
The aforementioned issue. The bridges in southern Italy had some AWFUL expansion joints, which killed off an ABS sensor. This was the view for 2,500 miles. (Passenger pic)

I thought about trying to remove the sensor, but they have a habit of being corroded in, and breaking off. I wasn't feeling that, so left it alone after a slight wiggle.

Mrs was a little concerned until I said 'we don't need this to make the car move. If this is the worst problem we have, we're all good.

Wheel off, having a look at things. I saw no damaged/broken wiring, and gave the connector a look at. No dice.

IMG_0878.jpeg
Filled to the brim with goodies for home. There's 5 crates in there, and LOTS of other snacks. Some for friends, most for us.

IMG_0887.jpeg
Final scores. Good amount of mileage for 3 weeks. Fuel was a little eye watering, but alas. One liter of oil added, near Salzburg.

Once home, the car was overdue a service by a few hundred miles, and had the ABS issue. My biggest fear was the magnetic pickup in the wheel bearing had failed over the horrendous bridges in Italy.

Gritted teeth, and some wiggling on the ABS sensor...

IMG_0904.jpeg
Success! I could have replaced in in Greece. Law of Sod means it would have broken had I tried.

New one fitted (For the first time, I got a fabled BMW part with the numbers ground off), a short test drive later...

IMG_0905.jpeg
More success! Thankfully.

Then a fresh fill of oil and a filter, and we're set for a summer of motoring. I washed off 4,000 miles of bugs and grime too. Much needed. An example from Greece...

I'm more than happy for anyone to have a guess, with my obvious insider knowledge* I'd expect more likely June than May though. Especially as there are two bank holidays in May, it gives me more days off.

* my knowledge is very limited! I also have the fear of something catastrophic going wrong before the 500k comes up.

Went to Shedfest at Bolesworth Castle yesterday. I only went because a friend said he was going and I had no idea what I was going to. As it turns out it was a superb event. I’d barely got out of the car before I saw @Schaefft

Anyway, have some pictures: IMG_3437.jpeg.7dcfe16d70556202bb03dec37f129611.jpegIMG_3425.jpeg.5bc87a583514656b4680019090d0e8be.jpegIMG_3441.jpeg.b4af3b017b8ad72ecc274841e07afada.jpegIMG_3424.jpeg.2bf30e52d0b12f0afd35b3d843c06406.jpegIMG_3422.jpeg.c132ec0a6b721ad6a7735d45df4a749d.jpegIMG_3421.jpeg.8e7c9a0acc9c3156e86f279136e5d40d.jpegIMG_3420.jpeg.1badd28c21a4d9b0d3a906e7978f65fe.jpegIMG_3419.jpeg.714b13cd1fe73dd003f0918ab48a15c8.jpegIMG_3417.jpeg.90939dd0e687146a4215023e74c2f3e8.jpegIMG_3414.jpeg.1810d559ce4b175b46f50aba02a9b412.jpegIMG_3413.jpeg.0338f49fb5d09f02f11a0c309813c0d6.jpegIMG_3411.jpeg.9fb9794da865f50970351a874db91db4.jpegIMG_3410.jpeg.5d129bf209a25db8971106239e76a84d.jpegIMG_3409.jpeg.19b1afc2f198e30c2e316e51d54a5852.jpegIMG_3408.jpeg.1c47e77d4dd1a6b75033a9fb1402f948.jpegIMG_3407.jpeg.bf6eacbec1d7f1f3d52996b8da043145.jpegIMG_3404.jpeg.c1cb5c6be959aadcbc957ccb24995e14.jpegIMG_3403.jpeg.8391ad787677517cd1016bb803497c82.jpegIMG_3402.jpeg.5478e4041b3fdeaa6af1df56808c09c2.jpegIMG_3400.jpeg.88a67ef951bf073ba1eacc766078440d.jpegIMG_3439.jpeg.e60badf1795b2de2d648495cfaefddb5.jpegIMG_3405.jpeg.cfcfac9d75195b65d508de122533ed83.jpegIMG_3440.jpeg.7ee9968c56cdaef9a5d5278fc5c43f9b.jpegIMG_3406.jpeg.e4676947d0667105d8ae57620e48f53f.jpeg

Loads of superb cars, and a really good atmosphere. Watching th Espace go round he chicanes on the track action was a random moment! For me car of the show was probably the SsangYong Korrando! A rare sight indeed. Closely followed by the Vauxhall Belmont.

Overall, I couldn’t believe how much attention the Trans Sport got, it was busy from the moment I parked up, and if I had a quid for every time someone said “I’ve never seen one in real life!” Or “I’ll bet it’s hard to get parts for that” I’d be quite rich! I also could have sold it several times over, lots asked if I was selling! The best news was that it ran perfectly for the entire journey

I started a new job last week which is based in the city centre. This means either walking or bussing in to work or paying £8+ day for parking. My car hadn't been used all of last week as I walked to and from the new place of work each day. I have covered around 17 miles on foot.

Anyhoo, I decided this morning to take advantage to the quiet roads and give the Korean tin box a run through the Norfolk Broads to the east coast. Soft Machine playing on the stereo - pleasant enough for a Sunday morning. Then drove through Great Yarmouth via Bradwell along the A143 which is a road I enjoy driving along and then onto the A146 westbound to Norwich. Covered around 50 miles.

i10 is now at around 51, 810 miles. I don't drive it enough.

Today was d-day. The shed of Vectra needed moving after a seriously kind offer from a Birmingham-based shiter for storage of Vectra for a few months until I can get myself sorted again.

20260503_102358.jpg.ca50330196831be04a47cef6be0b8ac8.jpg

The Vectra hadn't been started since before I went to Belgium when I got it washed and took it for a blast.

The battery got so low that the Noco wasn't picking up any signs of life. Now, instead of being a lazy twat, I should have taken the battery out and charged it overnight as I have a battery charger courtesy of another kind shiter. But I hadn't bothered, which led to it being a absolute mare of a morning.

20260503_105000.jpg.ca9d9bd6fde6d4b41e981403be573cd8.jpg

What should have been a simple task of getting the Vectra started, getting some petrol, oil and a blast up the road turn into me having to jump in the S-Type and pop to my local friendly Halfords to buy some jump leads. Petrol stations no longer stock useful car items, such as jump leads, oil, a tow rope etc... Its all car fresheners and phone leads.

£23 of my finest English pounds was extracted from me for these:

20260503_164920.jpg.13b7d841d330be80a0446d2ddac99fe2.jpg

Hopefully, these will last longer than shite leads I've had before.

Then it was back to the Vectra. Then, I had to clear out the boot of the S-Type to access the battery and link the cars up.

Upom linking it uo with the strong battery of the S-Type, the Vectra immediately sprang back into life with the alarm going off.

Then I gave it a starr. It sounded gappy enough except for the tappity noise indicating lack of oil, the oil was virtually off the dipstick, almost bone-dry. I knew when I was at Halfords I should have got some oil. Oh well, its on my way.

Because the stem seals are donald-ducked, a lot of blue smoke was billowing out the back of the Vectra. The nsr passenger tyre got pumped up as it has an annoying slow puncture.

Then, it was back off to Halfords for a pint of oil and a splash of petrol. Which was in total, another £35.

The Noco this time did its trick each time the car was switched off as now there was at least some sort of life in the battery

With that, it was time to hit the road, the Vectra performed very well, but seemed to lack the kick I expected,  however, out on the motorway,  it was in it's element. And before I knew it:

20260503_124840(1).jpg.349f429634a7f08912952582d3a5db9f.jpg

20260503_130205.jpg.6e4482e3b821e5058d1b3f258391433b.jpg

So, it'll be in here for a few months until I can get myself sorted out. It needs some small bits of welding underneath but I am absolutely chuffed the car is under cover which I have always wanted. It is only temporary, but at least its out of the elements and will be looked after.

The same person who approached us about the Trans Sport right at the beginning called me this morning. He seems like a slightly more fanatic (and wealthy) copy of us so I'm not surprise at all that he was hyped about the Pontiac! He's got over 150 cars (which makes me feel slightly better about my numbers) and is seriously considering the Cadillac. He'd take the Trans Sport in a heartbeat!
