after sharing the shameful state of my garage once the Westfield had gone

20260430_202713.jpg.41aaf005266a879e71f0e3dd652ee3a5.jpg

I thought I'd better have a spring clean

20260504_152433.jpg.c63f9300bf23434be2d9b84246bcee8d.jpg

Still a fair bit of junk , and a bike and Reliant Rialto interior missing in the picture

Stuck the Favorit in there to see how if the garage is useable with a normal car in, if so I might try and manhandle the Estelle in , if not I'll stick the Kitten in

Aren't there rules about locking a kitten in your garage 😁

In the absence of anything very productive after lanoguarding the underneath and front end I gave the gearbox a quick wash ( it’s definitely, defiantly green @Three Speed) and measured up some cardboard templates for the indicators I bought. A friend is going to make some brackets out of stainless steel.

Also, if anyone has an old Citroen ( I’ve seen them on 2cvs, h vans and ds, tractions and possibly sm) with an engine bay oil can holder, Opie oils are selling nice metal oil cans ( with oil) that fit for £20.

Jacked the Yeti up and took the wheel off today. The ABS sensor is not in the same place as all the YouTube videos I’ve watched. I really need to get to it from below, which wasn’t safe today. Might try backing it up on a kerb to give me more room.

Lots of vids/posts saying it’s a 10 minute job, then one saying cars with Park Assist are different. This has Park Assist, wish I had a ramp. Mrs W is on the train tomorrow because she won’t take mine because it’s too big, despite using the Senator and XJ40 in the past🙄

As it wasn't raining today, which is a surprise for a bank holiday, I thought I'd get some servicing done.

First up the couriering Caddy for service number 34 in my time with it, was due at 490k miles, so slightly overdue.

20260504_163017.jpg.e134a28a9ffffa5ac068d483fcfa7315.jpg

20260504_165127.jpg.a94b9e8f37e1e826ef13995af7fc9e9d.jpg

It was only due an oil filter and oil change, all went smoothly. I've had to top the coolant up about three times over the last 10k miles, no big deal, but concerning nonetheless. Had a mooch round and think I've found the culprit.

20260504_161407.jpg.a7d16fb68304a345b5e4df5d0b051cdc.jpg

Slight weep/show of coolant on the bottom of the radiator, bloody junk only lasting for 491.5k miles and 17 years..... 😂

So with the Caddy out the way it was time to service the Passat, I can't believe its 14 months since I picked this up. I did a full oil, air, fuel, pollen filter service when I got it in March '25, the dash had been reminding me it was due again on time, not miles. I've only put 4.2k miles on it in 14 months.

20260504_181026.jpg.d808842ded483a440c5f18956f15f45f.jpg

Just another oil and filter change this time, should see it right until next year, it hardly gets used, I thought about getting rid, but at £35 a year tax and £300 a year insurance, it's a very cheap thing to have around as a back up for the Caddy.

If your caddy has aircon @Popsicle then be careful, its not the standard rad. Found that out when the garage did mine for the same issue the other week, turns out the inlet/outlet pipes are at different angles for AC based cars so other pipes can get where they need to.

This weekend I spent a short moment dealing with the rear brakes. Always fun to get the big boy tools out:

Just been to fetch a boot lid for a Corsa from Autoline Staffordshire and in the middle of nowhere. Proper old skool yard with loads racked away. Dave couldn't have been more helpful, recommended.

Did the Rockin' Rolla pass in the end?

Retest  for the Corolla is taking place on Friday afternoon (soonest I could get) - brake flexis replaced and the frilly corner of the boot floor reconstructed, so hopefully there'll be no reason not to pass...

The 3008 has just passed 70000km ( 43500 miles) The car is 11 years  and 4 months old. It is still like new inside.

Cheers for the tip Rob, I'd be a sweaty mess in summer without aircon, so yes it does have it.

GSF are showing two different rads, the aircon option is probably why.

21 year old Polo spewed out it's OAT coolant today a mere 10 mins after I was singing it's praises to Mrs Womble.

Thought the CHG might have gone at first as bubbly expansion tank when I refilled it with finest tap water from the garden hose but no I had a pinhole leak on a hidden hose under the engine shroud which rapidly became a very big split when I prodded it.

IMG_20260506_135346.jpg.609698070699bb66099e5172ec48e5f3.jpg

No heater / coolant hoses but I did have some clear fuel hose if the right diameter and some jubilee clips because one of the spring clips went "boing" into the hedge.

Nuns and kittens have yet to die. Water is now staying in the system.

I let it piss a load out till the expansion tank was empty again before topping up with some more OAT

Got this out the lockup and gave this a good wash the other night. Umming and ahhing on whether to sell it or not, it's a very clean and straight little car but I don't have a huge need for it.

Back in my school days a shuttlecock at speed being returned over the net broke a friend of mines arm, not what you expect

I would have gone for ice hockey puck. My  mental image of a shuttlecock is it gently floating down with its little feather parachute.
