Corolla MOT scheduled for this evening.

A feeling of doom has descended...

It's in the lap of the gods now...

Ungrateful bugger blew another sidelight bulb earlier, too.

The one that requires removing the battery and the airbox intake to access, of course.

I can see it whenever the HGV roller goes up...

We'll know shortly whether the welding was worth it!

Good luck @Datsuncog

Went cross-country for work this week and drove back from Devon to Canterbury today via the A30, A303, M3, etc.  On the A30 in the Blackdown Hills on the long downhill just after the abandoned (I think) pub I nearly had an off after some gentle braking.  Must have hit a patch as the ABS kicked straight in and I had a slide.  Steered slightly and planned to bin it into the verge but managed to get it back fairly quickly.

However, the red van behind - which saw the whole thing - still continued to tailgate me for the next 10 fucking miles.  Twat.  I've done 720 miles since Monday afternoon and now I'm feeling somewhat unwell.  What joy.

Well, knock me down with a feather.

Pass. No advisories either.

With any luck, this wee thing's dodged the recycler's gates for another year.

And to top it all, MrsDC's away out to meet up with a friend this evening - I feel like a celebratory McDonald's along with my Vanishing Point DVD could be the optimal way to spend a cold evening... simple pleasures for simple people.

Been keeping an eye on the Espero which was lurking on a driveway near Llandudno. I’d left a note, but nothing. Today I was passing for work and….

Gone…. I hope there were multiple notes from aspiring Daewoo owners and that they haven’t scrapped it. Broken glass on the floor isn’t the best sign

Then a few minutes down the road I saw my first Ami in the flesh!

Congratulations, but this was not a surprise. I worked in a sales garage that specialised in used Toyotas for eight years. These must be among the easiest cars to get through a test out there, with the ball joints and wishbones giving almost no trouble. The only recurring problem is the rubber bushings on the longitudinal arms that locate the rear suspension. Unfortunately noone used to do them separately from the arms, and Toyota charge €250 for the parts. So we used to use s/h ones. Even then, it was only a small proportion of cars that had the problem.

They also have very high quality catalytic converters. I took one for test once, on a day like today, snowing and about 1 degree temperature, and I couldn't get the car to warm up. It just stuck right down at the cold end of the scale, yet passed emissions perfectly. In fact, when a Corolla got scrapped garages would carefully save the cat to splice into the exhausts of other cars of different makes that had emissions trouble.

One more year? Pah, keep on top of structural condition and you could get a lot longer.

The relucter just.... spins... I am amused, saddened and pissed off. Plastic clip underneath connects the shaft to the wheel has ceased to exist. Whats timing anywayyyyyy

School run transport for Wednesday.

I made the mistake of shouting

“ keep you hands where I can see them”  and one of the passengers (age 6) then began pointing a water pistol as passers by and repeating it.

Good result that @Datsuncog.

Yeah, I'd keep the 'Rolla going for as long as you can.

Nice one @Datsuncog! Thats also a good choice of beer.

Cheers dude! Felt it was appropriate, given the Corolla's ancestry. Have had a soft spot for it ever since staying at a hotel in Tokyo which very conveniently had an Asahi vending machine opposite our room...

Although looking closer at the bottle, the stuff they sell in Asda is brewed in Italy by Peroni - so does that make it the Nissan Cherry Europe/ Alfa Arna of the beer aisle?

A few years ago I managed to get hold of a few bottles of Asahi Black. Now that was really good, but haven't seen it on the shelves again - well worth it if you can find it.

I can now confirm riding a fucked old 50cc moped with a wobbly front wheel and a blowing exhaust at WOT up and down farm tracks is, put simply, fucking hilarious.

Video to follow.

It’s totally dodged us here on the western part of Dartmoor. Plenty of rain and drizzle instead, as usual.

Thats a mental amount of work to then just smash up in a few minutes isn't it?

If it makes him happy, thats good but I'd just buy a Mondeo.

Impressive stuff though.

It's... unique.

Did they convert a standard car into that blue one with a front shovel?

It's like they run out of their budget for that lower lip, it looks shit and unfinished, and very much an afterthought to me. A shame because the rest of it looks the part

given the amount of work that went into that as @HillmanImp says seems a shame to then smash it all up! I mean it probably would not have taken much more effort to then just punt it through an IVA and get it road registered as funky re-platformed Panhard

however I cant help but think this sounds a bit sketchy? I mean its not like its a *BEEP* where you had to surrender the chassis plate to the DHSS upon withdrawal/scrapping

image.thumb.png.4f9dea1b0795fc01e9279ba3740b2d52.png

so why would it be missing its Identity? anyone have a Panhard go missing I wonder? or was it a genuine rotten barn find, that someone then used its RHD bits and VIN plate to ring a good LHD import? (still somewhat dodgy LOL)
