Wibble
Thanks again everyone, especially Ryan and Dan @AnnoyingPentium @danthecapriman. I hope we can meet up in happier times. I’m back home now, had to get back to my family and work. Left mum just after 11am and in Basingstoke by 5.30. Loaded with fags, water and biscuits so did it without stopping, 428 miles but bloody knackered now. Should get funeral arrangements sorted Tuesday and then I’ll be heading back up for that with the family. I promise to get back to the cars soon but am so grateful for all the support and also to @sutty2006for deciphering dad’s uniform ribbons. What a place this is! sutty2006, mercedade, danthecapriman and 5 others

sutty2006
Sorry to hear about your dad. It’s never easy, they say it gets better but I’ve found after loosing my mother 12 months ago that it’s very hard indeed. Like others have said, I’m at the other end of the line if you an ear to talk into. Just pm for number. Wibble

Many years ago we were on holiday in Ireland. My dad had a Honda Legend at the time, the good looking one (1993 I think) but the battery died and the local garage had never heard of such car, so would take a while to order one in. I had the Senator at the time and he thought it was beautiful so I said he could use it until his battery was sorted. I wasn’t bothered as I just wanted to drink and have fun. He said it was the most comfortable car he’d ever driven and used it for a few days until the new battery arrived but after a couple of days was annoyed that my £5k senator was a better drive than his £20k Legend. Anyway, because my Dad loved my Senator and it’s the only car I have that he ever drove, I have decided to pump some money into it. Watch this space! Wibble
Dad’s funeral has been arranged for Tuesday next week so the superb “Superb” will take us on another 1000 mile + round trip starting Sunday. It really does match up to its name. Have spent tonight digging out old photos with Dad in. Has been great but hard and because he took most photos as we grew up, quite difficult to find ones with him in. Both my boys are adamant they want to be both pall bearers and cord bearers aged 12 & 18, which will make dad proud but I’m dreading the day and journey and still knackered from last week. Head feels completely brain fogged. Sorry , easier to type my thoughts than speak. High Jetter, mercedade and uk_senator

Wibble
Well I’m back home and struggling to get motivated but did a little bit more on the Senny today. I’m still pissing about with filler: Whilst waiting for this to harden off, I pulled out the dashboard speakers as they have suffered through damp and were getting a bit crusty: They are blue but as I can’t find a similar colour, satin black it is. There’s enough black in the dashboard to make them not look wrong I hope I’ll put a photo up when they’re back in place but the weather is now against me. Have also got the car booked in next Saturday to have the heater matrix and water pump done. I don’t want the battle myself at the moment. Matty
Can you get repair panels to do the work in the long run? Makes a lot of sense to do what you're doing now mind, get in on the road, use it and build up good will in the car/money to spend on it 👍

As you’ve said, I just want to slow down the rot for now and use it. adw1977 and Matty
Wibble
Speakers back in, look ok I reckon: As for the wheel arch, have I said how much I hate bodywork? Wibble
Rubbed down the last layer of filler and just gave air a quick coat of primer, dried with hair drier and quick coat of blue just as it started to rain. So still looks shit😄 Anyway, this was so I got some paint coverage on it before I dropped it off at the garage Saturday morning for MOT, water pump & heater matrix. I’ll re-visit this later. Have told them no rush so will just wait to hear. Had to get petrol on the way though and bloke with modern Merc AMG thingy filling up in front kept looking, don’t know which Merc, the saloon one that looks like it’s melted?🙄 Then he said, “Don’t see those any more, is it a Carlton?”🤦♂️Nice for him to comment though🙂 danthecapriman, GrumpiusMaximus, AnnoyingPentium and 2 others 4

Wibble
So the Senator is still with the garage. Water pump was correct, pulley wasn’t. I should have spotted this as it needs a ribbed belt pulley not a V. Frustrating when the websites all say this fits your car! Swapping the pulley wasn’t an option, they tried but it wasn’t playing ball and would have likely broken the pump. Anyway, another pump purchased without pulley which matches the original and the ribbed belt pulley fitted from the old pump and all good. The crank shaft pulley did have to come off though and they had to lock the engine to do it , so I’m happy I farmed this job out as would never have got it off at home. Heater matrix has been replaced too but was leaking from the feed and return pipes. Fortunately I was able to find new seals for the pipes, with the correct part number but they are simple “O” rings and probably could have been bought for a lot less. /Hay ho, hopefully this solves the problem and it will be home soon. After getting insurance quotes, this wasn’t too bad, so a purchase was made today bought from a great guy in Deepcut who is specialising in Minis. Top end rebuild and 12 months warranty on engine and gearbox and a fresh MOT. Geoff at Geoffansons is a top bloke! Having never driven one before I was impressed and thoroughly enjoyed the drive home 😁 Is that a MINI one or a Cooper? No2 son is 17 next month, we have looked at Pug 208, Suzuki swift but he now fancies a mini one/cooper.The one is cheaper to insure and not that much slower. I have looked at Geofansons website but they don't seem to have a stock list.
Wibble
It’s a 1.4 Mini One @DVee8. Was £300 to insure last year and £248 this time. My lad hasn’t taken to the driving at all and the Mini hasn’t moved in months. Geoffansons did put cars on eBay so might be worth a look there. It'a a Cooper S or JCW he thinks he's going to get, in reality a 1.4 Mini one is what he will get. Can't find Geoffansons on ebay either.

The one we bought was not the one I originally went to see and test drive which was white.A girl wanted that one so he offered me first refusal but also offered the blue one which would be ready in a couple of days. We let the girl have the white and chose blue. So, might be worth giving him a ring. I’m sure if he hasn’t got one he’d get you one and give it his usual treatment. Wibble
My sister, given the current climate, has decided to tighten her belt and get shot of her 2020 Skoda Kamiq Monte Carlo and wanted help finding something cheap. As many of you know, I am biased towards Skodas for modern motoring and knew a colleague who was thinking of moving on his Octavia, as he just wasn’t using it enough. Chat was had, photos were sent and she decided to go for it. Fortunately we had a job in Cirencester this morning so I was able to drop this off to her in Cheltenham I’d forgotten how good these are, it drove beautifully and she is chuffed to bits with it. A further plus is she gave me a case of beer to say thanks🍺 AnnoyingPentium, Coprolalia, Shite Ron and 2 others
