Cheers @comfortablynumb, yesterday evening it was the fact that the festival hadn't opened for punters so the site was quiet. Next door were all pissed from about 7pm. The music has started now and will be 24hrs a day until the early hours of Monday morning. Judging by their sore heads this morning I think they've peaked a bit early - just selfish drunks - and I needed a good rant - all this peace n love hippy bollocks brings it out in me.

I have always believed that we should have banned  AI and this reinforces that.

Out of nowhere, a bunch of old pictures of my cats suddenly popped up on my phone, set up with some stupid music. Most older than the phone and I have no idea how or why it happened. I found it terrifying and am now considering getting rid of my smartphone. It's just a shame it's so hard to find normal phones now.

Everything is crap now and it's only getting worse and worse.

Like cars  ( which reached they're peak in the 90's with std abs,efi 5 speeds etc) things evolve to a point were anything further is just window dressing, computers/internet has reached this point too,but to keep the profit coming in we've got ai.

As sheeple are now deprogrammed  & think their life will never be complete without better toys than those around them.

Not a grump as such as it doesn't really affect me.

Right behind my house is a wooded railway embankment. I have worked from home by my window for 5 years and always admired these silver birches to the right and the ash to the left. They were cracking in the autumn time:

IMG_20201018_091916.jpg.d3ea36d24b2e305bce173ff85e5226e4.jpg

Today a man came and literally felled all 5 birches in the space of 30 minutes. He's still going too.

First one down:

20250626_101926.jpg.6b6679aced8ae4824dc7d274253b9243.jpg

All gone and still cutting to the right.

20250626_141345.jpg.bf8b0cad4e0cf6876bc7511caf2067e6.jpg

The land behind is owned by British Rail. I though it was odd that trains were still running as he was felling them rather than cutting top-down. The live line is right behind the trees.

I've worked out that it's my neighbours 2 doors up who've employed a guy to go into the land, guerrilla style and fell a huge swathe of trees as they're likely blocking their light. His van is outside their house.

Fair enough I suppose but these were beautiful trees and the guy has left an ugly hacked-up mess behind ☹️

If he starts cutting the ash, which is right behind my house I'll be stopping it.

I mean there's no harm done but in the eyes of Network Rail, definitely illegal. Felling large trees right next to a busy live line would make the Health and Safety managers tits rotate at 5,000 rpm.

Had to go for my car this morning.  Decided to walk (3 miles).  Halfway there it chucked it down and nowhere to shelter.  Got to a bus shelter and decided to wait and take the bus the rest of the way.  Except the bus had just gone, according to the timetable*

Faired up, walked on, bus passed me three minutes later, than the rain started again, got to the garage looking like a drowned rat.

I had seen an interesting but outrageous number plate the previous day that I couldn't recall but realised it would be on the dashcam.  Pulled that from the car and downloaded the files, which took over an hour.  Started checking them in reverse order and wouldn't you just know it that the section I needed started as expected on leaving the car park and - blanked out after three seconds.

Recovered daughter's C3 from them yesterday after MOT/service etc, almost £900.

And found that the doctor has changed her medication and she won't be able to drive it for at least three months.

Of course, she needs it for work and as part of her job is insured for her to drive cats around that are being rescued or returned to owners.  Means she can't do that job now.

She needs it for work every day or the bus would take over three hours a day plus not running at convenient times, getting her there an hour early and home an hour late.   Ten minutes by car.

At least may son and I can ferry her around but still very restrictive for her.

*the dynamic timetable of buses passing our street end, including the one I would have used, has for a week or two now omitted that particular bus, although it still runs.  Vanished from the dreaded 'app' on the phone too.

@Split_Pin

NR have been on a vegetation cutting drive recently, although I was under the impression that it wouldn't be really going again until August. It looks like the person cutting them down is wearing orange HV so that would fit with them being railway related. Wouldn't just be one person though!

Near Romsey station they've been cutting back trees and it's obviously someone got too close to the signal as they managed to damage the top of the signal housing too. It looks like it was hit with a flail FFS.

Why is it that the minute I start lifting a car on my 2 post, a particular one of my gsd's immediately comes and stands underneath the car as it's going up? I think he was either a mechanic or a HSE bod on a previous life!

Cue the sound of the pump being drowned out by shouts of "Diesel! Get out of the bloody way!"😱(Yes that's his name)

I mean, I'm pretty careful about where I placed the lift arms, but I can still do without him legging it into the barn the second he hears the motor...

Its a busy junction and the Network Rail access track to where you see is right behind the trees and goes away to the right up to the road. This guy had a ladder over the fence to my neighbours and an ancient army green Sprinter outside their house so definitely not an official person.

Drove past this the other day. It's a bit of a local landmark known as Home Farm, arse end of the A420 at Swindon.  The roundabout was widened right up to it a few years ago so knew it wasn't long for this world.

I believe it's been sold off to be a retail park so someone thought they'd burn it out for a giggle last week so it's gutted. Been boarded up for years but just think it's sad.

Here's what it looked like when someone gave a shit

A90 road repairs on the Brechin bypass were done about 7-8 months ago - already it's had patches and more holes are appearing.  Also in Perth, new road surface about 6 months ago  and already the drains and manhole covers have sunk. Shoddy workmanship or "couldn't give a f*ck" attitude?

He'll just say it has ash die back. I have one behind my garden. I asked the land owner to cut any dead bits off for safety, but he just instructed a contractor to fell it. It is home to several kinds of birds, probably not endangered but less common, like nuthatches, woodpeckers and long tailed tits. Luckily I know the contractor and  he agreed a stay of execution but pruning the tree is not an option on safety grounds, so it’s coming down sometime.

I know what that is and it is clearly not affected by it.

I had a quick look online and I would very much have grounds to make a complaint of illegal tree felling, not to mention a report of trespassing on railway property and causing a danger to passing trains. However I'm not that kind of person and I simply dont have the time, so it will remain a grump only.

However the gap in the trees is stark and especially visible at a distance. Network Rail have a permanent welfare unit right at this exact spot and there are regular groups of trackside workers in the area. They're going to notice, especially come winter time when the surrounding floor vegetation dies back and reveals piles of timber and branches. If they ever come to my door asking questions I'll be telling them what happened.
